Sony Ericsson m600i - iSync

I have recently gotten my hands on the most perfect phone for me; the Sony Ericsson m600i. UMTS & triband GSM.

However, it does not sync with OS X.

I have managed to get it paired with OS X, as well as getting it recognised with iSync, but when the isync app is being installed on the phone, the phone complains that the app installation script is no longer supported (this is a UIQ3.0 phone).

Please, please help. I am replacing my ipaq 4700 with this phone, but I need the address book and the calendar.

Thank you in advance.

I know that SE should provide the software for their phones to work with the Mac. However, although SE has cooperated with Apple in developing iSync, we wouldn't have any phone syncing without Apples efforts. As far as I know most mobile phones offered syncing with PC's and none of them supported the Mac (possibly Palm being the exception). Just because Apple takes a very long time to provide support for the M600 and P990 (or not at all?) I very much doubt that SE will suddently (for the first time ever) decide to produce software to support the Mac.

Not really harsh considering I have been asking for this magic solution for about a month. SE says that it will not mount without driver but this guys says it will. On this, I tend to go with SE. Second, the guy will not answer any requests for info regarding this. As you know, if you can not duplicate it, then it didn't happen. To date this guy is the only one to claim that he can mount a M600i on Mac OS X.

Hi Marc. I don't know if one can sync using bootcamp. I only use XP for gaming - no other apps. I think you have to read quite early in this thread to find someone who was actually syncing this way.
What I tried - unfortunately unsuccessful - quite some time ago was to update the phone's firmware, which I had downloaded via OSX the dropped onto my XP partition. If I recall correctly the Windows system informed me that a USB device (the phone) had been connected (for me that's as good as mounted).
Unfortunately the upgrading did not work at all. I gave up quickly, not knowing whether it was due to bootcamp or not. I would appreciate if anyone would explain the steps even though I am not experiencing any problems with the phone except that it is sloooow. Thanks

just for all, i have been able to use boot camp to upgrade teh firmware of my M600i also to back it up and with teh sony software installed i have been able to mount and copy files direct to the the phone,

i feel let down by both Apple and SE for this as has been mentioned before in this thread it would seem that both do not want to spend the money or time in developing a solution beliving the other should do it. but in the end it is the customer who is suffering i have been loyal to apple and SE for many years even going back to when it was just erisson but this is a bit of a kick i bought the phone knowing that i may have to wait a while- that is what happens when you buy the newest stuff - but the lack of customer service from both apple or SE is what realy sticks

SE - no we are not going to do it which is poor but we know where we stand but apple - no comment, no coment is where it is bad

if apple are reading this could they confirm if they are going to add the phone to isync or not - im not (too) bothered as to when just what to know if they are?

then i know where to sell my phone or not,

BTW- the firmware update has got rid of alot of the odd things and does seem to be an improvment but the phone software is still beta software to me

the phone does seem a little faster but - i'm not thinking wow! this is so fast now! - the improvments are less crashes and error messages comming up while using it, when you change a setting it stays changed and switching between open applications is smother and a bit faster but not with the Wow factor,
i still think it is a good phone though, BTW i used the sony app strait from the CD and downloaded the update client from the web site had no problems doing it but it is slow to upgrade and there were a few points i tought it had frozen and nearly unplugged i cant remember now exactly how long it took to upgrade but it was more than 15 mins, and very little feedback while it is doing it,

again hope thie helps anyone thinking of upgrading,

...........and i think there may be some cancelled .Mac accounts and i might start using Boot Camp a little more often - but i really dont want too

if apple were to say that Yes it will be in 10.5 and yes it will support the phone i would be happy

PLEASE correct me if i am Wrong but i dont belive that APPLE have said that Isync will ever support the M600i so we could all be very disapointed when (or if) we get 10.5 and a new Isync andthe phone is still not supported!

but as mentioned in others posts i do belive that Sony need to shoulder some responsability and do somthing - but so far they are the only ones who have released a statement.

Why oh why do you and others continue to make this an Apple issue? iSync supports industry standards. SE changed the standards. Your anger or whatever should be directed at SE not Apple. If you read the posts above where I posted my communications with SE, you will see that they are passing the buck and that they are not supporting their customer base. Apple could not care less if you dump your M600i to the used mobile phone bin nor should they.

i understand your frustration,

but if you read my mail again hopefully you will see that i am not "making it an Apple issue" just wishing apple would clarify if it will be supported in the future with Isync or not, i dont think that it is too unreasonable to ask for clarification of a "roadmap" for software that i pay my hard earned money for they are quite happy to release all the wonderfull new goodies like spaces and back up etc but what about the existing software

SE have made there position clear and although i dont agree with it - they have been strait in that they do not plan to suport the MAC OS but at least we all know that the software will not be comming from SE. i am not saying that Apple Should suport it just wishing they would clarify the situation like SE have done, at the moment the customer service from Sony is better than apple as everyone knows where they stand,

apple should let people know if they plan to support UIQ3.0 in the next version of Isync or not and to repeat myself "i do belive that Sony need to shoulder some responsability and do somthing"
