iPhone 4 facetime not working

For some reason Facetime in my iPhone 4 is not working. This started last week only. Everything is working except for this. iPhone 5 and iPads are working though. Any idea how I can fix this? Are you also having the same problem?

Here are the specs for the 7.0.3 update. Seems Apple still won't admit that the problem existed. Very interesting. Unless, that is, it is referred to in one of the 2 iMessage bugs fixed...

Congratulatins everyone.

We've really suffered through this together.

Updated to 7.0.3, reset network settings, reconnected to my wi-fi network, opened FT, asks me to sign in using my AppleID, I do so and I get:

FaceTime Activation

Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again.

Tried disabling wi-fi to sign in over 3G with same result. Probably another unrelated problem but still, no luck for me 😟

I got the same error messagem but I had tried resetting my network settings before restarting my phone. I ended up turning my phone off for 15 minutes. Then when I turned it on and reset my network settings and reconnected to WIFI with my password my Facetime worked. The trick was restarting the phone (after a few minutes) BEFORE I reset my network settings. Good luck!

Maybe just a bit old, but I want to add some work that I did trying to resolve the problem staying with iOS6:

I did one test that was never tried in the forum before: I reset the phone back to factory (as required). FaceTime works. Then I restore a backup that was made BEFORE FaceTime stopped working. The result: FaceTime still did not work. Just a little something to contribute.

Thank you kenniebee.

When I was notified of your post, I was reading this thread about iMessage and FaceTime activation problems. I had just rebooted my iPhone (which was the first step of your solution) so I tried resetting the network settings again after a reboot as you suggested. FT still wouldn't sign in.

Thankfully, I got it to work a little while later. I'm not quite sure whether your solution took some time to work, or if it's the following steps I took that fixed the thing.

I went back to the thread I mentionned above and tried the solution I found. I had to adapt it a little bit because I didn't see the exact things it mentionned. Here's what I did:

  • (on my PC) Logged in to Apple's "Manage your Apple ID" site (https://appleid.apple.com/)
  • Clicked "Manage my AppleID"
  • Clicked on the "Phone Numbers" option
  • My iPhone number was listed as the "Daytime Phone". I switched it to the "Mobile Phone" field and saved changes.
  • Went back to my iPhone and Facetime was signed in, ready to call
  • Tested FT successfully

I'm skeptical about this. It seems too trivial to be the solution. It may just be that it didn't work right away after resetting the network settings. It tried to reconnect automatically while I was messing around with my AppleID on my PC and it was good to go when I picked my iPhone. I don't know. I don't care. It works. I'm a happy man. But just in case it may help someone else, I prefered to document what I did before it worked.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Same for me! I have Factime again on my iPhone 4!

Downloaded the update to iOS 7.0.3 and when the iPhone finally got done, I reset network settings (settings/general/reset (all the way at the bottom)/Reset network settings)

I didn't even do any extra restarts.

I Facetimed with my wife's Macbook Air in the other room. I actually had to try it more than once till it finally busted through.

Apple heard us.

They fixed it.

But they clearly didn't want a lot of talk about it, since I believe it is related to their patent wars.

But I just hope this works for all of us iPhone 4 users.

Urika. They fixed it. Funny but I was in the Apple Store the other day on an unrelated matter and mentioned this to what I figured was a not too technical genius. She mentioned that an update was coming that should fix it although frankly, I didn't think she had a good grasp on what my (our) issue was to begin with. Perhaps Apple let it be known that some fix to FT was fourthcoming.

After the update and reboot, my FT worked but only on my iCloud account. I went into FT settings and noticed that my phone and email where not active. Turned off FT and turned it back on (disabling my iCloud FT link as no one I know uses that address) and voila, FT is now working.

Thank you Apple for not abandoning early iPhone 4 users. Much appreciated.
