All of my friends who are using MBA mid-2012 have SSD failures.

The SSD failed after two weeks out of warranty.

In my case, the MBA mid-2012 was freezing immediately. After restarting, the screen turned white with blinking folder.

I have done all the solutions and they all didn't work. I went to the apple store right after that since I thought that the warranty would last until the end of August 2013 (I brought the product at the end of Aug 2012). The guy looked on the system and told me that It's expired since 1st of August which is not correct.

After asking my friends and local stores, I have found that a lot of people who brought MBA mid-2012 got the same issues. Most of failures happened after the warranty is expired. Although It's my fault that I didn't buy the apple care on time,I am still very disappointed. The apple products were more reliable than the others.

As I asked the shop, during last 2-3 weeks, there has been about 10 MBA mid-2012 sent to the store due to SDD failure issues. Is it considering a lot for you?

Hi Alan,

Thank you for your reply.

The size of SSD is 128 GB.

and the model showing on the apple webpage is "mid-2012". I'm not sure if It's correct.

Location: Thailand

I don't know why someone here are saying like i'm trying to discredit Apple. The reason I'm disappointed is that I was the one who convinced two friends to change from PC to Macbook Air. They brought one and all of our three got the same problems. I have been using a lot of Apple product for so long such as Macbook White, Ipod, Iphone and etc. I have never had a serious failures before like this time.

I called to the local shops again yesterday to check if they have the SSD on their stock yet. They said the SSDs are already finished after 2-3 days after refilling the stock and I have to wait another two weeks.

Also thanks to Gregs67 for sharing your experience as well.

PS. I mentioned "a lot of people" because this is the information that the local store told me.

Apple doesn't make solid state drives, they are purchased from various vendors, all of which have good quality standards. Unfortunately manufacturing flaws may not be recognized immediately. For example it was months before NVIDIA discovered it had used faulty components in its video cards which eventually caused many computer manufacturers to extend their warranties and NVIDA to reimburse the manufacturers. If you are old enough you may remember the Quantam hard drive recall in the early 1990s that affected millions of computers - virtually every computer manufacturer was affected by this faulty drive.

This MBA SSD problem - if it is indeed a wide spread problem - has just begun to surface. I began seeing/hearing about MBA SSD failures 2-3 weeks ago and I keep a pretty close watch on the industry. The problem with looking here at this website and drawing conclusions is that people come here with problems so naturally we read about trackpads going bad, keyboards not typing, and kernel panics. Determining whether there is a widespread problem due to a design or manufacturing flaw takes time and neither Apple nor the SSD manufacturers want to replace bad SSDs with more bad SSDs.

My advice is to be patient and keep your receipts and correspondence so that if there is a warranty extension you'll have proof that your computer was affected and that you should be reimbursed.
