Iphone 5 wont pair with my new macbook pro

I just bought a macbook pro 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3L onboard memory

I saw on a fair a person using the reflector app on his macbook pro. he had just simply paired his iphone 5 with his macbook pro using bluetooth.

I tried it on my macbook pro but it wont pair.

When i searh after new devices it finds my iphone and sends a code to my iphone. my macbook pro says that my phone is now paired but not connected.

On my iphone 5 i can see my macbook pro but it says not connected. when i press "not connected" i get an error message saying that my macbook pro arent supported.

I saw in another thread somesone saying you cant pair your iphone to your macbook pro using bluetooth, but that cant be right cause i saw it yesterday at the fair.

Help anyone?

The iPhone will not natively pair with the MacBook Pro. The App you quote would be required to perform what you wish.

Apple does not participate here in the forums. They never have. This is a user to user forum when other users help you when you are in need.

The iPhone has never supported anything in Bluetooth pairing with the comptuer except for tethering. You cannot pair the two for file transfers. If you are using Personal Hotspot to provide internet services from the phone to the computer, then you can connect them in that manner, but that is all.

You're right, my mistake. I didn't realize the Apple forum had nothing to do with Apple.

And realistically, why would one of the richest companies on the planet want to waste any time or money monitoring a website that is solely dedicated to solving problems with their product, let alone respond. I'm sure they know what's better for their customers than their customers do.

There is an app in my MBP located in a folder called "other". The app is called" bluetooth file exchange".

Can anyone tell me what this app is for and perhaps how it works? when you launch it it opens finder and you select a file....then another box opens up asking you to select a bluetooth device to send the file to. This is what is frustrating...the Pad and the Phone can be discovered but that's where the brick wall is......Really....is this some kind of joke?

Yes, it found the iphone and tried to send, but then I got a message saying : 'The device does not have the necessary services.'

It's incredibly stupid of Apple to do this. First, bluetooth pairing and sharing is available to macs from other types of smart phone, and has been since they were invented. If there was any truth in the suggestion above that apple have deliberately blocked this for security reasons then they have left a gaping hole.

More importantly, customers want it. We are used to being able to do this with PCs and other smart phones, so failing to offer this service will impact on trade sooner or later (it already is, I'm sure).

The whole point of bluetooth is that it's a wireless system you can use when you can't access the internet. And there many good reasons for needing to do this.

PS Why does this stupid website keep jumping my text up to the end of the line above for no reason. Sheesh.

You guys make me laugh.. do you honestly think Apple has nothing to do with this forum/website? Please note that this is an "apple.com" website/forum. Also there are a ton of technicians on this who are unofficially helping users (I mean, why does ChrisJ4203 have 25,495 points and is on Level 7.. do you know how many posts you have to submit to get to this level??).. so YES, this IS an Apple website!

As for the Bluetooth issue, this is one of the MANY shortcomings of your MBP (if not why are there 1000s on Forums on this website)!).. it cannot easily be resolved. I managed to pair my MBP to my Android phone but I had to make some changes to my Windows settings (I am on Bootcamp). If you need these, then please PM/message me directly as I am not an Apple technician... and don't want Apple making any changes to Bootcamp to disable this..

As a matter of fact, I don't know exactly how many posts it would take, but it is a lot. I have been answering questions here since 2007. And as Chris CA has indicated, it is not the number of posts, it has to do with the posts that the OP determines either help or answer the question posed. So I have posted a number of other posts that do not get me points, like the one you responded to.

I'm not a closet Apple employee, believe me. I'm a user, a retired user, that teaches part-time at a community college. You believe what you want, I just quote Apple policy, the things you agreed to when you joined the forum yourself.

How very true and how extremely shameful too! I also have the same problem with the bluetooth pairing of my newly bought iPhone 5S and a MacBook Pro running Mavericks. I feel a total fool that two, ridiculously expensive devices cannot communicate together. Sadly I also found out that they can't even communicate via Airdrop 😠. Airdrop is ony good within similar platforms be it iOS 7 and beyond or OSX, Mavericks, etc. But they can't interact 😠. What an absolute drag...

Oh I know the answer! No need for your enlightenment there... i-tunes is the obvious one and the favorable medium by Apple! Question though still unanswered as to why the heck those two "goodies" are still featured by iPhone 5S, what exactly is their end usage and why did Apple have to make such a fuss about them in Cupertino last September? And I think I know the answer to that one too... To induce naïveté into purchasing...

AirDrop on iOS is for sending files to another AirDrop capable iDevice.

-> iOS: Use AirDrop to wirelessly share content

BlueTooth on iPhone is for connecting to other BlueTiooth devices with the proper BT profiles.

-> iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles

Hi again. As an additional point of clarification I'm well aware as of what AirDrop stands for. However, I still find it hard to understand as to why 2 Apple AirDrop enabled devices such as the MacBook Pro of 2012 running OS Mavericks and an iPhone 5S on iOS 7.1 fail to communicate with each other via AirDrop! Is this simple, silly and trivial logic only relevant to me?
