My music won't sync to my iPhone 4S after updating to 11.1

I just updated my iTunes to 11.1

Everything seems to be working out fine but when I sync music it gets to about 5/6 songs and then cancels the sync.

any suggestions?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7

I would try restarting both the computer and the iPhone. Then try to sync again.

If that doesnt fix it, I would try recreating the itunes library with this:

I had similar problem after updating and what I did to solve was to go to:

1. iPhone settings => Music => HOME SHARING

2. If you notice HOME SHARING is not signed in to your Apple ID, you probably need to key in your password to log in.

3. Once HOME SHARING is identified under your Apple ID, connect your phone, go to iTunes and do a sync. (Note: ensure your Music library is checked for syncing)

After sync completes, you should be able to get your music back.

Good luck!

I am so fed up with Apple products.

Yesterday myself and a friend spent half a day sorting out my iPhotos on my iPad. Fixed that, finally. Argh.

Then tried fixing my iPhone's music library. My iPhone music cannot be 'seen' by my laptop's iTunes app - it thinks it's empty but I have over 400 songs that I can't remove. I can neither sync nor de-sync.

We are two mac developers, between us over 30 years experience, and not able to sort this out. Complicated, much?

I just purchased a new iPhone. I'm sorry I didn't get Android.

Oddly, my issue started seemingly at random. I've been on iOS7 and 11.1 iTunes a while and bought/downloaded/synced with no problem previously. This morning I tried to update a couple of songs into a Playlist .... no go, taking ages on the last step and nothing updating in my phone. My iPod syncs fine, my old iPhone syncs fine, my 4S doesn't.

Fixed it like this:

  • Put phone in Airplane mode.
  • Un-sync all music, apply the change. (This btw, DIDN'T clear the music off the phone)!
  • Sync music again.

I then had my new songs in the playlist fine. I then tried adding an album, with Airplane mode off and it worked fine ................. go figure!?

Hope that helps someone, before they have to go & reset their phone.

If your problem is like mine, it is probably being caused by iCloud. Ever since the iOS 7 update I have been having various problems with syncing, weird data on my iPhone, and even just playing music on my phone. I've had to restore twice in the last month, and both times the problem was coming from iCloud. First of all if you have "Show All Music" selected under the Music setting in your phone, I would suggest turning that off. It can mess up your music data as well as other data on the phone, or make it so all songs on your phone only play from cloud, which uses up data if you aren't using wifi. I'm guessing if you could just turn Cloud off for a minute and then try syncing that it would work correctly again. Unfortunately you can no longer turn iCloud off without deleting your iCloud account. And Cloud can be really useful, so you kind of have to work around it.

The first time I encountered this problem, I was having the same problem as you, it would get to the fifth step and then wouldn't sync anymore, and many songs from my library were corrupted and their data was missing on my phone, even though they played fine ON my phone. I restored my iPhone and this sort of worked. Then after the restore I just had all this weird "Other" data on my phone. I think this too was being caused by iCloud since when I turned off "Show All Music" many songs that I hadn't redownloaded were still showing up in my music library. There were over 11 GB of this "Other" data and because of this I ended up having to restore again yesterday and then my music wouldn't sync at all. This was because I restored from iCloud.

So if you already restored your iPhone, and your problem is purely that your music won't sync from your computer, do one of a few things. First, if you haven't already, go into your iPhones General Settings, and click Reset. Reset it to whatever it came as. It won't effect any of your data don't worry. It will turn off whatever iCloud setting you accidentally turned on during your restore, and you should be able to sync again. This worked for me.

Another thing you can try is to turn Sync off and let it clear out your library, then turn it back on and let it restore your library again. And if all else fails and you decide you have to try to restore it again, try restoring from backup from the computer rather then iCloud. Make sure ALL your data is saved to the computer though. I wouldn't want you to lose any of your contacts or anything.

I hope one of those things helps.
