IOS 7 wallpaper resizing will not shrink photo to fit screen...

After update, wallpaper stretchs larger than image. Unable to resize smaller to fit screen. My photo only measures 24k @ 261x231 and is HUGE; bigger than the screen can accommodatem (shrink). Cannot resize smaller to fit screen. Any ideas/suggestions? I have tried resizing my photo (smaller crop in size and dimensions) and photos render too large for screen. Cannot resize smaller to fit. I know I am repeating myself. Just to be clear. Am I doing something incorrectly in IOS 7? Any ideas/suggestions or similar problems solving input would be appreciated.

Hasn't there been someone who got an actual reaction to such a bug report, stating that the thing "works as intended"?

If not, that wouldn't surprise me at all, as I'm rather certain that what you're seeing corresponds to how Apple decided to solve the not-so-trivial problem of setting a wallpaper on a moveable backdrop.

So rather than calling it a bug, call it a regression or case of lost functionality, and file a request for the new old feature for a static backdrop that isn't any larger than the screen and for which you can set a wallpaper as you used to be able to.

There have been a number of examples of new Apple software versions losing much-used features which reappeared little by little - and *constructive* feedback certainly won't hurt there.

make the move AppleLono. I'm so happy with my samsung galaxy note 3, I cannot even describe it.

But I have to confess, I kept this page open because some posts are hilarious. Like this one:

by yourself, genious +1:

For everyone with an iPad, I have another solution. Take your pictures upsdide down. Then rotate them 10-degrees opposite from the gravitational pull of the earth. Take a screenshot. Then invert the image in iPhoto, submit it to Instagram but route it through Facebook. Take whichever photo comes through smaller and resize that into approximately what you think is a third the size of the screen. Take another screenshot and repeat the process. After an hour or so, you should have a photo you like. Or, maybe not.

For everyone with an iPhone, reverse the process. Except the repeat part.""

Thanks, Zaplas! I was also going to throw in something about doing it during a full moon to take advantage of the earth's gravitational pull, but figured that would have worn out my welcome.

Speaking of which, it looks like this issue even made it to "Wired"

Fix the Ugly iPad Wallpaper Apple Messed Up

Use a photo with the wrong resolution, and you can end up with a pixelated homescreen. Photo Josh Valcarcel/WIRED

Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 7, is frustrating a lot of people who just want to set their lock screen to their favorite wallpaper. People are complaining, for instance, that their iPad wallpaper, which wasn’t stretched before the iOS 7 update, is now pixelated. Or it’s not the right aspect ratio. Or there are black borders on each side of what was once a great lock screen image.

These problems arise for two reasons: First, Apple’s parallax feature, which is meant to simulate true depth, needs to resize wallpaper images to work its magic. Second, particularly on the iPad, iOS attempts to find the best wallpaper resolution for both landscape and portrait modes, and that’s where the stretching happens. Even more frustrating, iOS 7 really seems to want to position your wallpaper in its preferred way, and it won’t let you reposition it.

Here’s what you need to do to get your wallpaper just so.

1. Turn off parallax. You’ll find the switch under Settings > General > Accessibility, and it will be labeled “reduce motion.” This button changes a lot of the flashy default animations — instead of apps flying at your face, they tastefully fade in and out — and is highly recommended, even if your phone doesn’t make you seasick. However, what we’re interested in is that it (mostly) turns off parallax.

2. Use the correct resolution. A lot of people end up using photos they’ve taken as wallpapers. It should be fine, as most smartphone shots have more than enough pixels. But because they’re not the iPad’s preferred resolution, your system will still be guessing about which way to position the image. Fire up an image editor and crop the photo down to exactly what your device wants. Here’s a nice chart that lists the resolution for your iOS device.

3. For the iPad, go square. Since a lot of the stretching issue comes from the iPad using the same wallpaper for both portrait and landscape orientations, you can forgo the guessing game by using a square wallpaper. Try using an image with a resolution of 2048 x 2048.

4. Embrace iOS 7 and make your own parallax wallpaper. If you like Apple’s iOS 7 effects, an alternate option is to make special wallpapers that include enough extra “fringe” to work with the parallax feature. Cult of Mac recommends an extra 200 pixels on each side of the picture. However, if you want an easier process, use an app. Wallax will get the job done and it costs $1 on the App Store. Fix My Wallpaper is less polished, but it’s free.

5. Complain to Apple! If you want the ability to scale down your lock screen image — as you were able to do with previous versions of iOS — maybe sending a strongly worded message to Apple will get the point across.

I am back to this discussion to see what has transpired over the past few weeks. First, am seeing 42 pages of comments on this subject. I first looked when it was about 16 pages. The problem is really ******* a lot of loyal Applettes off. I too am to the point of frustration. I like to have a good looking wallpaper and this situation is awful. I really like some of the features and the look of iOS7 but in this area IT'S A BUST! If the programming for parallax is causing this, remove that feature. Its a gimmic that ads no value to the operating system (obviously is more of a detriment).

We hear not word for our God that they are working the issue to fix it for us, or even if they are addressing or will be addressing the issue. Dont we mean anything to the LORD any more? Begging Applegods to please let us know if they are, or will, address the issue. If not then I might jump the Apple ship and move to over and try out the other universe.

And BTW Apple, take that "move and scale" off the screen when we are setting a wallpaper. It is a constant reminder of this issue and aggrevating every time.

Yet another lengthy list of unhappy customers and yet another issue Apple appear to be ignoring. To have to consider third-party applications to fix basic OS bugs is madness. I have today just upgraded my iPad to iOS 7 and already finding the OS littered with missing functionality that the previous OS already had - it smacks of a very casual and carefree approach by the software folks at Cupertino. Just don't mention the calendar - you will upset me...

Curiously, I'm really Perplexed, too. There are multiple threads in the Apple Support Community about this issue. This one, currently running a whoppping 42 pages, appears to be the longest, but we're all ticked off and surprised this bug hasn't been corrected. You're right, to consider third party apps to fix basic OS bugs is madness, especially when it used to work in an earlier OS and we all liked it just fine! And I'm just talking about the Iphone, I'm not even going to upgrade my ipad to this garbage when the old OS works just fine, thank you. The wallpaper/lock screen is the first thing you see when you power up, and the last thing you see when you shut down. It's a significant thing to me, can't believe it still hasn't been addressed.

Nov 30, 2013 7:18 PM in response to ScreenLono

Here is what really gets me. I was experiencing this issue for the longest time since the update. I am no longer experiencing this issue though. Since the most recent fix I don't have this issue on either device anymore (iPhone 4S and iPad 4 RD). With that being said, I do have other issues and experience in that are not being addressed as well. We all know the issues but my biggest one is the ability to multitask on these devices. It's so counterproductive!! If leave your phone or device dormant for more than two minutes everything you have done will be lost.

Now, the problem that we are all having that Apple is not recognizing these issues because not everybody is experiencing them. I have asked a few people that own iPhone 4 iPhone 5, an iPhone 5s. All of them report that they don't have any of these issues that we have. Only one that I could see that we definitely all had in common was the inability to multitask efficiently. This leads me to believe that it is just a bug that some of us ended up getting. My wallpaper issue has been fixed. Honestly, I would trade not being able to set a wallpaper over not being able to multitask. My thoughts to everyone still experiencing this issue is to restore your phone and start fresh. I did not do that but I've heard that has worked for some people. I am truly sick and tired of having so many issues that are not being resolved. I had iPhone since the beginning and this might just be the end. I am giving them until next year to correct these issues before going to a different system.

"HBMuscleButt (one of the most stupid screen names ever) , exactly what data and metrics are you basing that stupid comment on? I've got an iphone 5 with the latest OS and the current upgrades. It's an issue with me. I have commented repeatedly on this. Go to the back of the room, sit down, and be quiet. Next time, speak only when spoken to."

Applelono: wow you really said this? This is not a place to take your anger out on others. I suggest you discuss experiences you are having, noting that your experiences may be different than others.
