iTunes Match issues on iOS 7

I have been using iOS 7 since the release of the GM. Overall, I love it - however with the music app, specifically with iTunes Match I am very dissapointed as the usability, for me has gone quite backwards.

Firstly, I have some artists in my collection with vast ammounts of albums (Grateful Dead, Phish, etc). With iOS 6, accessing those artist's albums was instantaneous. In iOS 7, it takes approximately 10-15 seconds from the time I tap the artist to being able to view the albums. When trying to return to the Artists tab, it will also hang for at least 10 seconds.

Second, once within the albums of a particular artist, there is no longer the alphabetical slider along the side which allows me to quickly scrub through the albums. When there are a lot of albums, scrolling manually through every album (and song) is quite tedious. I honestly can't believe how much of a step back this is. Albums no longer are listed alphabetically, now they are listed based on release date.

These issues have me wihing I coud go back to iOS 6, even though the rest of the new interface is great. I can't believe how much worse the music app is now. I can't believe no one at Apple has a music library containing artists with large discographies.

If there isn't a fix to these issues, I will have to cancel my iTunes Match subscription because it is simply too frustrating waiting for things to load and not being able to browse albums efficiently.

If anyone is aware of a fix, or is also frustrated by these issues, please let me know.

Sorry to jump in at the current end with a question that may be obvious...but is it even possible at this point to have itunes match work properly if one already has music on on your phone? I've read through all of these posts after realizing I had problems. I've gotten back to "ground zero" which for me is just syncing via itunes connected with a usb cable, match turned off.

I've had match since the beginning, found i always keep it turned off, sync via itunes. I have a 200gb+ music library spread across roughly 22,000 tracks and I see about 45gb on to my iphone. Have the iphone 5 with ios7 and I wanted ad free radio so I found I had to turn on itunes match on the phone. I set show all music to "off" and that's when everything seemed to wreck. Tracks weren't showing, trouble downloading, etc. I went to the itunes store on the iphone and the downloads showed 145 failed downloads. Tried to sign out and back in, no change, so I deleted all those failures one by one. Tried to re-connect to itunes, trouble that way. ONly thing that worked was to turn match off, wipe the phone of music, and start over with syncing through itunes.

I'm now able to sync via itunes but I"m fearful of turning itunes match back on again at this point to have it repeat. I know most here seem to be having the same issue. No "pattern" I've played around with from some of the messages seems to do it for me and I'm hesitant to keep turning it back on.

Sorry for a long post. Basically just wondering if there is a pattern to this I'm doing incorrectly that may be better if I want to have match turned on for ad free radio without screwing it all up with the existing 45gb of music already on my phone. Cheers.

If anyone is still having problems, I can report what worked for me. The downside to this method is that YOU WILL LOSE ALL OF YOUR SMART PLAYLISTS. Here goes:

  1. Delete all smart playlists in iTunes
  2. Update iTunes Match in iTunes
  3. On iOS, sign out of the iTunes store.
  4. On iOS, delete all music (Settings General Usage Music, then tap "Edit" and delete all music)
  5. While still logged out of the store, reboot iOS device
  6. After the reboot, re-enable iTunes Match on the iOS device.

In my particular case, I was able to figure this out by plugging my phone in to my iMac, firing up Xcode, and watching the console messages from the phone fly by. Just as the "Loading iTunes Match" blue bar finished up, I saw this error message:

<Error>: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Error preparing statement SQL. "SELECT item.ROWID FROM item LEFT OUTER JOIN category USING (category_id) JOIN item_extra USING (item_pid) JOIN item_playback USING (item_pid) LEFT OUTER JOIN location_kind USING (location_kind_id) WHERE ((IFNULL(category.category, '') LIKE IFNULL(?, '')) AND (item_playback.bit_rate < ?) AND (NOT (IFNULL(location_kind.kind, '') = IFNULL(?, ''))))" Error Domain=ML3DatabaseErrorDomain Code=1 "cannot join using column category_id - column not present in both tables -- extended errcode: 1 (Unknown)" UserInfo=0x178e1710 {ML3DatabaseConnection=<ML3DatabaseConnection: 0x165519a0> open = open (RW), path = /var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes/MediaLibrary.sqlitedb, in transaction = YES, unique identifier = <__NSConcreteUUID 0x16552e50> 8A5AB819-0F41-4857-AE06-A271151D31CC, owning pool = <ML3DatabaseConnectionPool: 0x1654c440>, NSLocalizedDescription=cannot join using column category_id - column not present in both tables -- extended errcode: 1 (Unknown)}'

I will be submitting a bug report to apple using bug reporter, and I encourage anyone else with a developer account who can confirm the same problem to do the same. If I had to guess, I'd suspect that one of my playlists using "Category" was causing the problem, but I'll leave that up to Apple's engineers to determine.

This work for me, however a few aditions where needed:

At, Go back to your imac/pc and sign back into itunes, I also turned on iTunes Match, under the Store Menu Bar at the top.

And once turning iTunes Match back on in the iPhone, I had to flick Show All Music ON.

To be Updated like this:

metmaestro

ON your Iphone/Ipad: Go to Settings: ITunes & App Store

Tap on your apple ID, sign out, Itunes match will be off.

Next on your iphone/ipad go to Settings: Music:. Look at the ITUNES MATCH slider-it should be off. If not turn it off.

On your IMAC/PC, sign out of Itunes

Restart your Iphone by pressing the home key and the on/off button at the same time until the apple icon appears. Hold it for about 10-20 seconds until the apple icon appears.

Go back to your imac/pc and sign back into itunes, Turn On iTunes Match

Go to settings on your iphone, tap Itunes & app store. Sign on with your apple id and password, turn on ITUNES MATCH Slider. A message will appear "Enable" "Cancel"- Tap ENABLE. Switch SHOW ALL Music to be ON.

Next go to Settings, tap on Music, the ITUNES MATCH slider should be on, if not, turn it on to match.

Finally, Go into MUSIC on your Iphone/Ipad. Once you tap MUSIC icon, LOADING ITUNES MATCH will start processing with a blue line, matching your Itunes Library.

This worked flawlessly for me.

Same here. It's a real mess.

I already reset iTunes Match three times, deleted all the Music already twice and downloaded again. This evening, out from home, I realized that none of the almost 400 songs I previously downloaded via wifi was able to play.

Deleted everything once again and started a new mass download.

Songs seems to be downloaded but can't get past 00:00 despite Music.app shows the UI if the song is playing.

iTunes Match died with iOS 6.1.4. I hope for a fix under 7.0.3.

So depressing!... Sorry to say, but i'm so extremely disappointed with apple. im having same problems and a billion more with my music/itunes match; Music wise: ios-7 is a bomber it is 45 degrees backward from 6.

Can't say much, cause i'm coming over the final hurdle of the gully that this..... ios-7/itunes match/ railroad and put me through and in. I even became (I have a right to) a little paranoid. thinking the issues were exclusively mines. I fumed with the representatives from apple.

sorry..... after recuperation in future, i'll formalize my billion issues with /help i hope

to someone else.... Apple directed to this sight.....(I TAKE THE RELAY, and COHESIVE,COORDINATION in

playing of my music very, very delicately SERIOUS!! whew!

Thanks for the vent.

My issue was that Match was syncing across my devices properly, but I could not download or stream songs from the cloud on my iPhone or iPad.

I could see the songs I wanted to DL/play but when I clicked the DL all or individual tracks they would process for a second and then fail.

The fix was that on my iPhone/Pad I had to go to the iTunes app and restart some downloads that had failed.

Then the songs in question in Music downloaded fine.

@meissnem:

Awesome. Your solution totally worked for me!

A while after updating to iOS7, I noticed that my artwork wasn't syncing, that some of my albums were showing up where they didn't belong, and that sometimes music wouldn't download or stream at all. I then started enountering the endless iTunes Match loading bug. I tried resetting iTunes Match more times than I can remember now. Then I reset my phone and restored from backup twice, which seemed to partially fix the problem. The artwork still wouldn't sync right but everything else seemed to be working mostly correctly. I could download and play music initially after the reset. However, inevitably after a couple of days all the other problems would recur, including the endless iTunes Match loading message. I also noted that music on my phone didn't show up as music when I connected the phone to iTunes. Rather, the files showed up as "other" with the only songs showing up being my custom ringtones. I was at my wit's end and had thought that I might just have to reset and restore my phone one more time, give up on iTunes Match, and sync my music with iTunes manually until Apple finally fixed iTunes Match in iOS7.

Then I saw your suggestion and decided, what the heck, I had nothing to lose anyway. Having tried several other proposed solutions with no luck, I was not optimistic. But it worked. I deleted all my smart playlists and followed your steps, and now iTunes Match now works perfectly on my iPhone 5, including syncing the artwork correctly. I'm a happy camper now.

I had issues AGAIN yesterday. All of the sudden, songs (local) wouldn't play. It looked like they were playing, but the time counter was at 0:00 and no sound. Tried turning Match off and on. Playlists disappeared. WHY DO MY PLAYLISTS DISAPPEAR when Match screws up? Aren't playlists LOCALLY STORED?? Shouldn't I have my playlists regardless of whether I have WIFI or LTE? Why are they disappearing?

Regardless, after a series of turning everything off and on, etc., finally just turned off iPhone, and back on. Went back into Music app, and the all-too-familiar "Loading iTunes Match..." came up, but shortly thereafter the blue bar started progressing. When it finished, my stuff was back.

This is RIDICULOUS. Nothing is changing on my iPhone, so why is the music content not staying fixed???

Darryl,

Please see the last post at my thread, regarding the new User Guide, and its fairly clear language that iTunes Match will delete all local song files on the phone.

As posted by 512atx here:

it appears that his/her advice is the way to go, as frustrating as this new incarnation of iTunes Match may be:

"However, I don't believe that [iTunes Match -- iTM] should be your primary choice for transferring songs to your iPhone. In order to get the most out of your iPhone, disable iTM, sync, enable, repeat, whenever possible."

It would be helpful if an Apple expert (which I am not) could post on this issue too, in my opinion,
