This happened to me also. I updated to iTunes 11.1 and when I plug in my iPhone 5 (still using iOS 6.x), iTunes doesn't see it. However, my computer does see the iPhone and shows the folder with all my photos, etc.

Thank you. I was able to have my ipod show up and sync in itunes but I can't access my ipod files.

The ipod icon shows up but there is no access to files under library or the side list so I can't open my ipod to access music, podcasts, tv, movies books etc... I can add to ipod by dragging items but can't see or change anything.

So I have songs albums playlists radio internet ipod icon itunes store

but no option to select files.....

Is anyone else having a problem similar to this?????? Please Help!

I spent an hour or more figuring out how to update drivers and going to service folder and restarting apple mobile device. I was able to do this by following everyones instructions... thank you... to you and davidish and everyone else who explained this.

Hi All,

For those who are still having issues i.e. iPad/iPhone etc not showing in iTunes 11.1.

I think I may have another solution for those running a 64-bit version of Windows. In my case I was using Windows 8 Pro...

So if you have this OS this is what I did to cure the problem...

Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers and look for the following file...

usbaapl64.inf

Now right click this and choose Install. After a while the driver should be installed and when you head back to iTunes 11.1 it should now show your device.

Remember the above will only fix the 64-bit software on Windows 8, though it may work for Windows 7 etc but without the latter OS to test I could not say.

Hopefully this will help, it certainly cured the problem for me! :-)

for people who are facing problem like me.

I am able to get it to work by a series of things. I am not sure which one worked.

1. Try reaching to c:\program files\itunes\

2. right click on itunes and select run as administrator.

If this solves a problem, thank god because you are saved from lot bigger work.

If not, you would have to do the steps in this thread.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3972817?start=0&tstart=0

and then restart the itunes.

It worked for me, Dont know if it applies to you. Give it a go...

I figured out why I couldn't access my ipod files after updating itunes even after doing the suggested fixes, of repairing itunes, updating driver and turning off apple mobile device and starting it.

I found out that you have to have show sidebar to access ipod and once I did that then the icon " on this ipod" appeared in the summary page. So, you can access some items only through show sidebar.... Yeah, a simple solution and I didn't have to reload itunes...

I am having the same problem. After updating to iTunes 11.1, it would no longer recognize my iPhone. (It still recognizes my iPad). I did not want to update my iPhone to iOS 7 yet, but thinking that might be the problem, I went ahead. That didn't help. So I have walked through every step provided by Apple support, including verifying the Apple Mobile Device Service is installed. I also stopped and restarted it. I have also uninstalled and re-installed iTunes multiple times. I have a feeling that the issue is with my USB driver. When I go into Device Manager, I see nothing listed as Apple, so there is really nothing for me to re-install. Can someone please help me?

I have tried all the suggestions on these four pages of ideas but iTunes will still not see my iPhone 5s. It will see my iPhone 4 and my iPad just fine. All are running iOS 7. I have tried on 2 different PCs with the same results of not working. Both PCs are running Win 7, one a starter version and one Home Premium. Any other ideas, please pass along, I'm desperate.
