Exchange Email not working after iOS 7 update

Almost everyone who updated to i OS7 today can't connect to our Exchance 2010 server for email. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a way to fix it?

Well a whole week later and we are still having intermittent issues on iOS7 devices using ActiveSync over the AT&T network. Cannot recreate issue on demand and althought there have been a number of solutions given of deleting and re-adding accounts, this does not seem to truely fix the issue and it is impossible in a distributed environment of over 6000 employees.


We aer looking at the logs on the servers to see what we can find , but it may be an AT&T issue, at which point we will have to convience them that the issue is there and not in our environment. Right now, we do not see any of the failed attempts hitting the exchange server.


If you have an exchange environment with UAG and you find a fix that is validated, please reply to this thread.

"Sign in to Outlook Web App, click Options > Phone > Mobile Phones, and delete your registered device that is having the issue (including unused ones) as there is a max".


This may also resolve everyone elses issues, especially is you receive a "server returned null sync key for sync of account" from the device (using iPhone Configurator).


Deleting the registered devices from Exchange will likely allow the sync to process.

To everybody have problem with Outlook/Exchange synch after ios 7 upgrade.


Just check your APN setting and type again proper ones - even if you see exactly the same APN as you think it should be - just clear old and type once again new.


Seems that ios 7 somehow forget from time to time the setting of APNs and takes some default internet apn for communications instead of private APN for email.


Ps. To be sure that just check it on myipaddress.com side that you will get a different ip for connection for different APN setting.

Finally a fix (but a slight twist on BariBC's excellent find and Salinao's highlighting of the issue). I had most of the issues listed in the thread and tried all the iPhone solutions as a Exchange end user - reset Network Settings, deleted and reinstalled my email account multiple times, etc. I also deleted all the Credentials content via Windows 7 Control Panel. But several times every day I needed to reenter my password and this normally ended up locking my Exchange account. When I went into OWA settings after reading these posts, I found I only had 3 devices listed, but two of these were the same iPhone. I deleted both of these in OWA and in the account in phone, and then created a new account in the phone. It now been stable for 36 hours. Presumably the problem was some form of conflict between Exchange and the two devices with the same credentials in OWA. Thanks guys - problem hopefully sorted for good!

I had the same problem also. It was very frustrating. After resetting all settings, deleting the account which seemed to work for a moment, but only to return the same message "unable to verify account information" I went on line to access my outlook account and found that my password had expired or was close to expiring. Maybe try changing your password online and entering that new password into your device. Hope that helps.

All I can offer on this is that when our users were experiencing this issue, we realized the 'Domain' setting had to be completed in the settings of the user's phone. For example:


Pre iOS7:

Server: outlook.younet.yourcompany.com

Domain: <Optional>


Post iOS7:

Server: outlook.yourcompany.com

Domain: younet.yourcompany.com


Once the user changed these settings on their phone, mail started flowing.

I believe the problem is related to large mailboxes and having "Unlimited sync" on. I followed all the suggestions on here and none of them worked. However, my wife's iPhone sync'd okay without any issues. I pinned this down to the fact I had a very large mailbox so I started shifting mail into an archive folder.


Once I had trimmed down my mailbox the "Unlimited sync" works now. However, if I try to search within the mailbox it still fails with "Unable to get mail".


Therefore there is definitely an issue with iOS 7 Mail with Exchange + Unlimited sync + large mailboxes.

There is no doubt that the IOS 7 has caused problems with synching to Exchange mailboxes. Just to summarise:


1. Network Settings

IOS 7 seems to have broken the network path settings to find the Exchange server.

Doing a Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Connections resolves this.


2. Partnership

IOS 7 seems to have broken the partnership between the device and the Exchange server.

Removing the device from the Exchange server and then resynching resolves this.


3. Password authentication

IOS 7 seems to have confused the encrypted password authentication so accounts cannot authorise.

Removing the password policy for the phone on Exchange and restarting IIS seems to resolve this. (Not good though)


4. Unlimited Sync

IOS 7 seems to have broken the initial synch for "unlimited" mailboxes when the mailboxes are big becuase it times out the server connection. One week, One month and so on seems to work.

Setting the mailbox to something other than "unlimited" seems to solve this one.


5. Other things

IOS 7 may have done other things as well! For example we have seen issues with sending text messages.

I ran into this issue with the new iphone someone was trying to setup but it seemed to be any NEWLY setup phones with IOS7.02 could not connect. I upgraded an Iphone 4 and it worked ok with IOS 7.02 but when I deleted the existing Exchange account from it and tried to re-add it, I had the same issue as the new Iphone 5.


I set Exchange Activesync logging to true on the exchange 2010 SP1 server by running this:


Set-CASMailbox alias -ActiveSyncDebugLogging:$false


The I tried connecting with my phone to generate some logging info.


I then sent the EAS (Exchange Activesync) logs from the Echange server to my email to review using this:


Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics -Mailbox alias -GetMailboxLog:$true -NotificationEmailAddress

myemail


In the log it had an AccessState: Blocked. I don't know if this has to do with our default Activesync policy not allowing non provisionable devcies or not but I guessed maybe. I went into the Exchnage control Panel, Phone and Voice section, I added all Iphone devices under Device Access rules. Aftet that it seemed to start working.

One caveat is I still received some errors when adding the account, when I initially entered email and password I got unabel to verify account information, I click ok and save. I then edit the account again and add the domain and save.


I know this exact scenerio might not work for all but maybe it will reveal a piece of the puzzle.


Lastly in out environment our Exchange server is 2 service packs behind so that is our next step to rule it out.

I upgraded to iOS7 from 6 on my 4S and all was working fine for about a month.


Then, it just stopped. No clue why - just all emails stopped sending. I could receive but when I hit send, I got the jet sound, but nothing would write to my sent items and nobody got my emails.


I had to delete ALL email accounts. Restart the phone (not just power off, but reboot - hold Sleep+Home button until the screen goes black and it reinitializes) then re-add the exchange account.


Seems to be working ... at least for now.

I came across this issue today. Email appears to be sent but nothing shows up in the sent items or the recipient mailbox. I powered off and on the iphone and tried to send again and this time got a message sending error and it kept retrying. I went into the advanced settings of the exchange email account and turned S/MIME on and the email got sent. I then turned S/MIME off again and emails continued to be sent normally.
