remote app rotation locked in portrait orientation after iOS 7 upgrade

Same issue here. And it makes the app unusable for me because I almost a exclusively use playlists to sort my classical music - and portrait mode chops off the names of the albums and composers, just leaving title and artist.

Once again Apple screws over a large user base by assuming their customers only have small collections of music and sort everything by pop star name?

It's a bug because the app won't even rotate when the iPad is upside down, which would still be portait mode. I'm sure it will be resolved soon.

I think that if you look carefully at the new Music app you will see that it works with Apple TV and I suspect that the Remote app is being phased out except for use with older devices. Interestingly it works fine on an iPad 1 that we have.

I have an HCSB (Bible) App that is also stuck in portrait and won't rotate since IOS 7 upgrade. All other Apps will rotate. This App is only stuck on my iPad 2. Same App on iPhone 4S with IOS 7 upgrade and App is not stuck, but will rotate.

It appears that my San Diego Union Tribune E-edition App for iPad is also stuck in the Portrait-only mode since updating my iPad 3 to iOS 7. On previous iOS it worked fine in Landscape or Portrait ... no rotation problems until this update. I emailed the webmaster at the UT, but have not received a reply.

Thats a good point! I am using the iPad as a remote, when I should be using the iPhone or iPod as these devices are displaying the Remote App in portrait mode... I like to use Remote app only to control the ATV..

iTunes on iOS7 may be able to send content on to an Apple TV, but it does not work as a remote control. For instance how do you use iPad to type in the search field on the Apple TV? I do not see a way to do that. The best feature of the remote is that you can use the iPad's keyboard to enter search criteria on your Apple TV interface. In portrait mode it is harder to do. It is easier to type when the iPad is in landscape mode.

I hope Apple is not dumb enough to end of life this app.

ardevel...I agree... It should not matter which device you use... Portrait or Landscape mode for the Rempte App should be available on all Apple devices... Some may prefer iTunes Music App, and others the Remote App...it should have been obvious, but, it wasn't and thats a shame.

If iTunes app on iPad can access the Apple TV search controls I am all ears. So far I was unable to find a way to control the actual Apple TV interface with the iTunes app. Is it possible? Is so what is the trick?

No, you have slightly the wrong idea.

What you do is to set your iPad to receive all your music, including that in iMatch. Find on the iPad what you want to play, and then air play to the Apple TV.

The Apple TV update then recognises what you have selected, and plays and downloads the tune itself, bypassing the iPad. That is rather clever I thought, and explained on the Apple TV interface somewhere.

So that is why I think the remote app is being dropped.

Should have added, it works the same way with libraries of music on your iTunes PC, and the control works the same from an iPhone.

Judging by the Apple TV update, I'd say there must be another update to follow, since all the graphics haven't changed, and rather blatantly don't match the iOS 7 in style whatsoever any more.

That is nice to know about the Apple TV bypassing the iPad on recognized music and download directly.

However, that doesn't help or apply in my situation, since I'm using the Remote app to remote iTunes running on an iMac to play music to multiple Airport Express base stations - no Apple TV involved.

And while using the Music app and iMatch is clever, there's no good reason to require me to have a running Internet connection to listen to music stored locally in my house to local devices in my house, just so I can use the iPad as a "remote".
