I also had this problem............use 4 or 5 fingers on screen and spread "outwards" to show your app history pages, then delete them by flicking them upwards out of the sceen. This clears all short term page histories, which clears the ipad memory. This seems to solve a few problems, including the auto rotate lock / unlock. It's worth doing this once or twice a week any way !!

Good luck !

You can fix the screen rotation lock by either closing the apps or soft reset (holding power and home button together until it reboots). Memory will be released so that screen rotation can be active again. IOS 7 was released hastily to time with iPhone release. Remember iphone is Apple's crown jewel. Even with subsequent updates, there are still way too many bugs. Biggest problem right now is low memory crash and screen lock is result of poor memory management and not enough physical ram memory.

Well, 7.0.4 made mine worse. 7.0 broke it completely, and it was locked in portrait with the home button at the top. Weeks later, I played a flight sim that used the accelerometer heavily and the screen started rotating as it should. Yesterday, I reluctantly updated to 7.0.4 and now I can't always rotate the screen, but even when it does work, it has a serious lag, like 3 or 4 seconds after I rotate, it may rotate. And it will never rotate a full 180. I have to go back and forth several times to get it to work.

I've never been less happy with a product that I've paid more than a hundred bucks for.

adding another voice to this. I have the exact same issue on my old ipad 3 and new mini retina.

Occasionally auto rotation stops working and a reboot fixes it for a while. Happens at least once/day. Is so far the only issue that has made me gun-shy about updating my iphone 5.

Does not appear to be app-related. Has happened while using Nook app, Safari, Chrome, and I think Gmail. continues when I exit to home. Always requires reboot.
