itunes 11.1 extremely slow and laggy

Not only am I having the same problems you all are talking about, but iTunes decides to randomly delete 1 or 2 of my podcasts every day. Also, sync is very buggy/dysfunctional. Bad update. Been looking for a way to downgrade, not having luck so far.

Same problem. Previous version 11.0.5 or something worked fined.

The podcast section is lagging real bad. Unacceptable.

So please continue to report this to Apple!

iTunes' podcast section was horribly laggy for me, also the iPhone podcast sync management tab. My hard drive would thrash, and iTunes would be unresponsive for 5-20 minutes (tested across several reboots and cold/hot iTunes restarts) while I could use the rest of my computer just fine.

I found two distinct fixes:

1. Temporarily disable ALL connections to the internet, whether they can connect or not. This cuts down the lag significantly to less horrible 1-2 minutes in iTunes, 30-60 seconds iPhone podcast management tab.

OR

2. Go to Edit > Preferences > Store and uncheck "Automatically download album artwork". This got rid of almost all lag, making iTunes 11.1 (and iPhone sync management) about as fast as 11.0.5 was, maybe even a bit faster.

It seems that something has gone horribly wrong with iTunes' procedures for checking album artwork for podcasts -- maybe it's checking artwork for each individual file until it finds something, or maybe it generates a new artwork cache EVERY time you load the Podcasts category. In any case, I don't really make much use of the automatic artwork downloads, and unless you're importing a bunch of CDs, you probably aren't either. Even so, you can still right click on media to search for missing artwork if you need it.

EDIT: Huh, solution #2 seems to have inadvertently fixed another problem I was having with iTunes 11.1: not being able to delete podcasts in "List" view. Now I can actually delete podcasts again! If only there was a way to not have all the old episodes still showing....

Solution number two seems to have solved my lag problem! I'll toy around with it a bit and see if it stays fixed.

Solution #2 had no affect for me. What did was turning off the network connection. I was able to click through and delete podcasts without delay when I disconnected the network cable and shut off wifi.

Good move - this is evidently a bug; none of these workarounds should be needed in the long run…

Tried both of these. Neither worked.

iTunes 11.1 has also started relaunching itself as long as iPhone is attached.

Has anyone tried this?

(It's a little worrying that Googling for iTunes 11.1 slow produces only this current thread. Surely not only a dozen people can be experiencing the slowness?)

Yes....iTunes 11.1 seems to be VERY sluggish for me. Also, it consistently takes me 5 or more seconds to exit the program and during that time my Mac is frozen.

I tried synching with my iPod 6G Nano; same fault

And after upgrading my iPhone to 7.0.2; same fault

I recently update itunes 11.1 and it is really choking my computer all together. I keep needing to go into system repairs just to help my internet connection. It is really bad. To add to this I downloaded a movie after the update and I am afraid my harddrive is going to go. Is there anyway I can burn the movie to a dvd and remove it, I hate to waste money and reinstall the previous itunes? This is really crazy.

Hey same here. rainbow ball spinning.....spinning.....spinning....then ok . then i try to refresh a podcast or click anywhere ....hangs again.....(running 10.8.3)
