Cannot send emails after iOS 7 update

I just updated my iPad 3rd gen and iPhone 5 to iOS 7. Ever since the update, I can receive emails to all my email accounts on both devices, but I can't send emails from either device. Is anyone else having this problem and/or know of a solution?

I have gone through all the posts under this title. I had updated IOS 7 on 18th Sep 13 on my iPhone 4. I am unable to send mails. I am receiving mails. I had done all suggestions outlined in this post and grappling with the problem for the last 4 days. No solution yet. I have gmail, outlook and exchange. I tried switching on all SMTP servers. No result. Switched off WIFI and used 4G. No result. Problem continues. Please help. Restarted many times. Deleted gmail multiple times and added multiple times. No results.

Same problem for me. I've been lucky in that it was solved by resetting the phone (holding down home and power at same time). However, as the phone was working fine for around 24hrs since the upgrade to ios7 but then just suddenly stopped sending it's knocked my confidence a bit. Worst was I didn't realise this until I'd been sending email for many hours and couldn't understand why I wasn't getting replies. So, I have gone into settings in Mail and set the Always Bcc Myself (Settings/Mail,Contacts,Calendars/Always Bcc Myself). Hopefully this will spot it if it happens again (though is rather a pain).

I also have this problem. I've been through the process of deleting my account and setting it back up twice with reboots in between the changes. When I attempt to send mail, I get an error message that the outgoing mail server failed. I have internet and email through a regional provider, skybest. I used smtp.skybest.com as my outgoing mail server as well as my user name (email address) and password. When I set it up, iPhone verified the account and it seemed ok, but still will not send. I'm able to receive mail. Bummer...

I read through all the posts and gave the steps a try. I finally have succeeded with my AOL account by turning OFF the "Primary Server." Under Mail Settings, click on the Account>Outgoing Mail Server>SMTP>Primary Server. There is a tab to turn the Server on and off. I switched it off, and clicked "Done." The primary server then showed "Off" and the other SMTP Servers were "On". By the time I clicked out of Settings, my outbox was clear. Hope that helps someone.

We found the source of the problem in more detail at our workplace and solved it.

It seems that Apple (Apple/Google?) decided to change from using IMAP over SSL on port 993 for outgoing GMail to using smtps over port 465.

At our workplace we block unneeded outgoing ports. Since port 465 wasn't previously used, it was blocked - hence the problem.

We solved this problem for our iPhone users by opening outgoing port 465 to allow smtps to GMail. I had spent some time trying to switch back to IMAP over SSL through the iPhone configuration options but I didn't have any luck. The port used was apparently fixed by the protocol. Your mileage may vary.

Hope this helps others.
