Cannot send emails after iOS 7 update

I just updated my iPad 3rd gen and iPhone 5 to iOS 7. Ever since the update, I can receive emails to all my email accounts on both devices, but I can't send emails from either device. Is anyone else having this problem and/or know of a solution?

God bless you Animation Person! You fixed my problem! For everyone else, this was the solution...

I found that after the upgrade my password was retained by the settings for incoming messages - but I needed to reenter the password in the outgoing mail server settings in the mail settings in the iphone.. - this fixed the problem with messages not being sent..

I called my ISP, and he had me go through all the settings. The outgoing port setting needed to be changed back and my ISP did not support SSL.

So apparently--if you have an ISP with proprietary software--it's probably best to go directly to them for the settings. Mine had gotten mucked up by the upgrade and I made it worse by trying every solution on the forum.

Big takeaway is that Apple needs to do a better job with its big upgrades so that people's settings are preserved. The technical person from my ISP who helped me said he lost 250 contacts. I guess I should feel lucky. I only had to reset my notification center settings and be inconvenienced for a few days on my outgoing email.

I have multiple email accounts on my iPhone and iPad. EVERYTHING works FINE on my computers.

I updated my iPhone 5 to IOS7, and since the update I CANNOT send email from my comcast email addresses on my iPhone.

BUT, my hotmail, gmail and mac.com accounts send and receive perfectly.

My problem appears to be related to the iPhone and comcast accounts.

I did delete and reset the comcast accounts, and it didn't solve the problem.

Thanks.

SAME ISSUE! But only when sending photos or forwarding emails with attachments. Cause it lets me email myself a small email just fine.

Tried the restart, delete, re add email account trick.

no luck

some creep told me to use the general, reset, reset all settings.

no luck

AND I had the joy of having to go redo everything like wallpapers, settings, rescan fingerprints, etc etc...

WHAT THE **** APPLE! Are you telling me, that not one of your devs had this issue while going through several beta stages??

It's too common and too big to miss!! Give us answers please?

I am a email administrator so I have full access to both IPhone IOS 7 and the mail server. Apple has a big problem with IOS 7 and SSL. To diagnose I downloaded a telnet app and telnetted on port 993 directly from the iphone to the mail server. It will not connect. It will connect from my computer by the way, so it is live on the web. This is both through the phone and WiFi. It connects fine on ports 25, 366, 110, and 143. It does not connect on ports 465, 993, and 995.

If the phone can't connect on these ports none of the other stuff matters. This takes all certificates out of play. It can't reach the server on port 465, 993 and 995, period.

Apple needs to acknowledge this problem and get it fixed ASAP.

I have a .me email account and can't send from my desktop computer after upgrading to iOS 7 on the iPad 3. The iPad can send and recieve emails using an icloud account. I am getting a 0x80004005 error from Outlook. I tried using different smpt.me.com to no avail. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

I also have an roadrunner account which is sending email with no problems. I can send emails from my iphone from my .me account.

Deleting and readding the accounts for me did not work until I deleted all of my mail accounts - even ones that had been turned off (inactive) for quite some time. I also deleted all outgoing servers that I was no longer using (under advanced settings). Surprisingly, those outgoing servers still remained even after I deleted the underlying mail accounts.

To reiterate my previous post and confirm internetman2's post of 9/28, the iOS 7 update has s bug with the email settings for SSL. It will not connect using 465 or 995 at all. To make matters worse, the update automatically changes your outgoing email settings to SSL and 995, regardless of your original settings (this is not consistent with all updates, but it does happen). As in my previous post, you need to turn off SSL AND update the port to either 587 or 25, as just turning off SSL will not update the port. Also, check your incoming advanced settings that it didn't update it also to SSL. Port 110 is the default port without SSL.

SO, if you want to send and receive email, turn off SSL, until Apple fixes the bug.

Hi,

I was experiencing the same issue, I could receive but not send emails since having updated to iOS 7, I read through everyone's suggestions and tried them all without success. I ended up deleting my email account entirely, and setting it up as new, straight away my problem was solved.

I hope this helps someone out there

Thank you! Your solution worked for me on my iPhone 4. Strange that it is an iPhone issue, but has not been a problem on my iPad!
