Cannot send emails after iOS 7 update

I just updated my iPad 3rd gen and iPhone 5 to iOS 7. Ever since the update, I can receive emails to all my email accounts on both devices, but I can't send emails from either device. Is anyone else having this problem and/or know of a solution?

Not sure if it would help, but mine didn't work at all. However, I went onto the gmail site, and under the settings chose an app specific password for the device.

I'm sure it's lame to have to do this especially if you have more than one account, and/or more than one device, but it has solved my issue completely.

I have been looking into this for one of my users. He recently updated his iPhone and after the update it will receive but not send like many have reported. We do have SSL enabled.

My system logs do not indicate that there is a problem connecting on the SSL enabled port(s). However after the SMTP client enables SSL (sends the TLSSTART command) the iPhone drops the first character of the SMTP session commands. and it is this aspect which is causing the trouble. Instead of sending for instance AUTH LOGIN the iPhone is sending UTH LOGIN... the recieving servers don't know what these garbled commands mean and they are responding back with an invalid command response (mobile devices do not show users error messages).

I haven't confirmed if a reboot or reset will correct this issue. However my user did report that rebuilding the mail account does not correct this issue.

The Google Sync/ActiveSync solutions are probably a valid workaround as they do not use SMTP to send mail (all communications function over HTTP or HTTPS).

If anyone has knowledge if this is a known bug and a work around I'd like to hear about it.

This eventually solved my problem. I had to delete ALL of my accounts (2 Gmail, one Exchange, and one Yahoo) then rebuild them, then reboot and things are working again. Thing is, if this was a "Windows" issue, all you Apple snobs would be bashing Microsoft. Goes to show you, even Apple isn't perfect.

I coud not send emails after the IOS 7 upgrade for about five days. Followed some instructions "go to settings, etc" that I found on these discussions but couldn't complete so fell to wondering what to do next for a few days and then it suddenly righted itself. I'm sure I didn't do anything to fix it .. just sent an email and it went through. Who knows?!

Had major issues on two separate iPhones after upgrade to iOS 7. Emails were often rejected on personal and office accounts (latter through MobileIron) and when they were sent, there was a delay of 10-90+ minutes with no reliability.

Tried many of the above solutions including lengthy visit to the Genius Bar and conversations with cellular providers. Ultimately, was persuaded that the only solution was to Restore as a New iPhone......no mean feat given over 800 apps!!

Undertook major rebuild of both iPhones and documented below for completeness:

1. Restored from new and tested emails before installing apps - immediate send/receive

2. Rebuilt one iPhone with installation of 600+ apps including configuration into folders - huge task!

3. Tested emails again - all functional on fully new iPhone

4. Wiped and then restored iPhone 2 from new backup

5. Tested: all fine with immediate send/receive

Interim steps included adding MobileIron, only relevant to those specific users.

Looks as if problem has been resolved - presume some form of corrupt file on two iPhones from two original and separate builds/backups. Unclear whether iOS 7 caused the corruptions but hope the above will save people the days of anguish which I suffered!

Hi. LONG TIME Apple fan and device user. Since my "upgrade" to iOS 7 on my iPhone 5, iPad 2 & iPad 4 (work device) I have NOT been able to send emails from ANY of my accounts on ANY of my devices (INCLUDING my MacBook Pro)!!! The emails actually send (The SWOOSH sound plays) and the emails show up in the "SENT" folders of the accounts, but they NEVER actually get sent. This is extremely frustrating. Email is a necessary function for me everyday! I have gone into an Apple store twice (they coulnt figure it out) AND I've spoken to engineers in Cupertino who have not been able to fix the issue. I went as far as restoring my iPad 2 to factory setting and starting the device as brand new (NOT from a backup), which took ALL DAY, and STILL I cannot send emails!!! I am at a loss!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hi everyone. Although I can't speak for all email accounts, because I basically just use 1 hotmail account for everything, if you have no trouble receiving but cannot send any hotmail emails, delete your hotmail account entirely in your settings. As in previous posts, starting a new account by choosing exchange worked for me. You just type in your hotmail username and password. Type hotmail for description. That cleared my inbox of the 1000+ unread emails that it was showing and brought my mailbox back to pre iOS 7 update state.

This is how I solved my email issues:

I have 3 accounts in iphone: one gmail that had no issues after installing ios7 and two corporate accounts that I couldn't use to send emails any more.

What I did, was to go to the settings of the outgoing mail server and insert username and password again. This (for some reason) solved the problem.

Hello

I encountered a similar problem in IOS7 with Gmail account, the solution worked for me is to cancel the 2-step verification of Gmail.

There is a simple guide how to turn off the 2-step verification - https://support.google.com/accounts/.../1064203?hl=en

And for disable 2-step verification for your domain - https://support.google.com/a/answer/184711?hl=en&ctx=ch_SMSAuthConfig

I had this same issue after Comcast made me change my password for security reasons. When I went in and set up the new password on my phone, I didn't realize I needed to change it for the outgoing server as well.

Settings ---> Mail, Contacts, Calendars ---> click on mail account ---> Click on SMTP server under "outgoing mail server" heading ---> click on smpt.comcast.net under "primary server" heading, and you should see a box that says password. I had to change this password to my new password in order to get my phone to send email again.

Hope that helps some folks,

EG
