I had most of these problems before the battery drained completely, (while it was sitting there with the smart cover shut). Now it will not charge (wall charger & original cord, and some aftermarket cords, have tried everything) and is stuck at 1% in a boot loop, loop restarts when it hits the lock screen and returns to the red battery screen. I'm so mad! Cust service suggests an upgrade to a 4 and that they are hearing nothing about these problems. Srsly? $@#*!
WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T LET YOUR BATTERY RUN FLAT!!!!!!!
I am having the same problem as this.
My initial experience with the update wasn't as bad as others here although I did notice the general slow down and the typing lag and definitely the problems with the multi tasking bar. Oh and also the wallpaper sizing. I also didn't like the design much, particularly of the task bar, that frosted glass look was really ******** me.
However I had grown familiar with the new design and was getting comfortable with it. I updated around 3 or 4 days ago. I was starting to think everything was going to be ok and I would get over my problems until......
I forgot to charge overnight last night and this morning my battery was below 20% so I plugged it in and used it as usual. After around 2-3 hours, maybe a bit more it was down at 5%. That's the last I noticed it at because not too long after that the thing just shut down.
After that i am stuck in a boot loop. I left it for hours and it didn't charge. First it shows the dead battery symbol for a few seconds then it has the apple logo for closer to a minute, then it flashes my lock screen for less than a second before it shows the little spinnning circle it as while shutting down before it all goes black. Then if I have it plugged into the wall it starts the loop again after a minute or 2 of nothing. If I have it plugged into the computer it seems to take about 5 mins to try and start up again. If it is unplugged it doesn't loop, it just dies.
I contacted apple support via the chat system and was told to do a system restore via ITunes. The computer I used had never connected to my IPad but my back up is on the cloud. I tried to restore through ITunes but the red battery screen appeared again once it had finished the restore and told me the IPad would reboot and reconnect with ITunes shortly, then the boot loop resumed, however now there is no longer the flash of the lock screen in the loop. So I tried this again after 45 minutes of further charging with the phone continuing to loop. Again everything went as planned during the system restore until it finished and rebooted the IPad.
I will try again tomorrow morning after a full night being plugged in boot looping but I don't like my chances as it doesn't seem to be taking any charge at all while it is looping.
Apple support advised me that they were confident it was a hardware issue and I would need to take it in to get repaired, probably replacing the battery (which was fine and had not shown any signs of reduced capacity prior to the update). When I asked them if they were aware of the problems users were having they simply told me (quoting from memory) "I have seen many IPad 3's that have been updated and do not have any problems with charging or maintaining charge, I have also seen many that have had other problems but have started working again after a restore."
It is clearly not a hardware problem since it has happened to at least 2 other people on this forum that I have seen (I haven't checked every page of the thread). If it is a hardware problem now then it was caused by the update, if it was just random hardware death then I wouldn't be finding others here who had the same problems. Unfortunately none of this matters to Apple support who simply won't accept it could be related to the update.
So basically what I would advise anyone else with an IPad 3 who has already updated is...........
