iPhone 5 camera not working after ios 7 update

The front camera works initially, but the rear camera shows a blurry image which then freezes the app. Several hard resets have had no effect.

I have the same problem as the rest of you. My latest (and only)app downloaded since upgrading to iOS 7.0.2 is called Vimeo, a wine app, but it never worked. I am out of coverage of course with my 4s 64GB and probably will buy the new 5s but this has made me halt a bit. Been a very satisfied Apple consumer for years, really don´t like this bug. Will be removing one app at a time, anyone have suggestions where to begin. The issue can not be hardware, it is software for sure.

I logged a COMPLAINT case (515510665) via the Support Chat mechanism. You can also call 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273). You are welcome to reference this case in any correspondence - as the associated chat transcript contains a link to this thread. But please contact them and flag this up. The agent I chatted with had the cheek to pretend that this was the first complaint they had heard regarding the iPhone camera and iOS 7. They said not to necessarily trust online forums! Ha. I gave up at that point. Will phone the number above now...

Same problem as everybody else - iphone 5 camera does not work after ios 7 upgrade.

Like some of the people on here, I have a temporary fix - either a sync to itunes or a power cycle allows for one round of working camera, then when I try to re-open the app without powering down and back up the camera does not work.

I tried the old fixes from ios 6 - delete a bunch of stuff and make sure the camera roll does not have any pictures on it. Does not help but every time I sync with itunes the camera works for a few minutes.

I've had same issue with new 5S. Black screen came up on Camera, flipped to front and it worked, flipped to back and it hung the app. Restored all and then camera app would quickly appear and then close, couldn't use either camera. Deleted a couple camera using apps that I don't use (Turbo Scan and Instagram) but still no joy. Got an Evernote app update overnight but still same issue. However, I just did a reboot and all is well! Maybe it was the Evernote app, or just coincidence. When opening camera app, it shows a quick initial blurriness, then is fine and it does same quick blurry screen when switching back-front and vice versa. Anyway, doesn't look to be hardware after recent activity and I'll report back if situation changes.

The Camera issue may be connected to the Auto-brightness feature - I have been able to get the camera working with the following steps:

1) Open camera see that screen is frozen camera will not work (#$%&!).

2) Exit camera, double-click the main button and swipe the camera app shut.

3) Go to settings: Wallpapers & Brightness: Turn on Auto-Brightness.

4) Exit settings (to make sure auto brightness change takes effect)

5) Go back into settings: Wallpapers & Brightness: Turn OFF Auto-Brightness.

6) Attempt to open camera. Seems to fix the problem some of the time.

Also try leaving the camera app open while you adjust the Auto-brightness setting then closing the camera and re-opening:

1) Open camera see that screen is frozen camera will not work (#$%&!).

2) Press the main button to exit camera.

3) Go to settings: Wallpapers & Brightness: Turn on Auto-Brightness.

4) Exit settings (to make sure auto brightness change takes effect)

5) Go back into settings: Wallpapers & Brightness: Turn OFF Auto-Brightness.

6) Double-click the main button and swipe the camera app shut.

7) Attempt to open camera. Again, seems to fix the problem some of the time.

It appears to be a software issue. My iphone 4s worked fine until the IOS 7 upgrade. Now occasionally I can take a pic and see it on the phone later, but mostly the camera roll shows black. and sometimes you can see the pic on the roll as a thumbnail, but if you select it goes black. editing / saving does not help. and if I email them they are black on the received email. This really *****.

The camera in my iphone 5 stopped working with ios 7 as well. I went through all the troubleshooting techniques I could think of, reset, restore, tried a 3rd party camera app, ect. After I was unable to fix it I went ahead and gave apple a call at their apple care number. I explained I troubleshooted it as much as possible and would like to get it repaired under manufacturers. They sent me a box, I recieved it the very next day, and now less than five days later from initally calling them I have recieved my like new replacement. I have not activated it yet to see if the camera does indeed work now, but I'm very happy with their customer service. This is the first and only time I've had an issue with an apple product that I did not cause, so all is well in my eyes. I would recommend calling them or stopping in an apple store if you are still under manufturers or purchased additonal apple care. Best of luck!

FIXED!! I lost my camera, Safari, App Store, and Sprint store app after downloading iOS7 on my iphone 5. since the closest Apple store is quite a ways away, I just called and explained. And she gave me the fix.

1. Go to Settings on Home Page

2. Scroll to General

3. Go to Restrictions

4. Allow Camera, and anything else you want.

Evidently the default setting on iOS7 is Restrict on the Camera and other things.

Too Easy!😀

I forgot to mention that you will be required to enter your passcode to unlock the restrictions page.
