ios7 sucks battery life! Any ideas?

Think about this, you couldn't force this much drain if you purposely tried to increase the amperage to maximum. Are all of these devices shutting down in a few minutes or are you just screaming about the numbers on the meter?

Read the article linked above, carefully go through the menus and turn off background downloads and location updated, re-calibrate the battery and ensure the screen brightness isn't at max and the device is sleeping normally. Check your email push settings and iCloud settings. There is a huge tendency to play on the device checking out the new software far more than before, resulting in a perception of quicker battery use as well.

Work the problem, post your analysis.

My phone was at 100% yesterday at 4:00 PM. Today the phone, as of now, is currently at 79%. It has been 18 hours and only lost 21%. I have no battery issues on my iPhone 5.

Some of the issue may be with your cell provider. The weaker the signal, the harder the phone drives the radios to maintain a signal. This increase in power causes faster battery drain. I am on Verizon and have a very strong signal.

Tested not runing wifi for 3 hours this morning. The battery is draining just as fast with it on or off.

Way ahead of you Mr Grinch. That's the first thing I did was to start shutting things down.

I'm carefully watching my phone every ten minutes today.
Apple made me an appt. to check the phone out and possibly give me a new phone.

I am STILL not convinced it's me. Although battery life has improved slightly, it is now taking me 40 minutes to charge my phone 17% - seriously?

Read your link anyway. I can't find anything in that article about re-calibrating the battery. Searched this forum for something as well and still not finding it. Got a link?

In terms of laptops and other devices with rechargable batteries a battery recalibration requires that you allow the battery to discharge completely and then recharge it to full charge. I have never heard this used in reference to the iPhone but I assume that the procedure is the same.

that's what I thought too. Well, it'll have to wait till it drains then.

Yes, run it all the way down to shutdown, then recharge fully. May take a couple of cycles.

Apple recommends this a a matter of routine, roughly on a monthly basis.

Never had the issue on any of my iPhones until this update.

Got it on a fast track to drain now. playing movie and turned on all kinds of crap to make it work 🙂

My iPhone 5 has only gone down 1 point in the last hour while in standby.

Hi all, Having exactly the same battery problems as other users since upgrade : (

In desperation I have reset my phone, done restarts, logged out of aps, done a backup up of phone and restored to factory settngs then restored from back-up - you name it I think I've done it.

But the battery is still leaking power like a running tap!

APPLE SORT IT OUT!!!

I'm a really unhappy customer, I need a phone I can carry around with me and use without having to be constantly worrying about it running out of charge and being away from home or a power source to charge it, for example.

Never had this problem before with an iPhone and really think Apple need to take ownership and address asap.

Otherwise I may as well go and get myself an Android phone that not only has all the fancy things the new IOS7 has, but can actually hold a charge so you can use all the aps, etc, otherwise what's the point having them on your phone if you have to turn them all off to save power??!!

We'll find out if the issue is the calibration or the actual drain. When you update, the battery cal may not be valid. Too many getting wound up and ranting over what are likely bogus numbers.

Keep working the problem- the article above reveals some good things to check. Always look at push and notifications, along with background app updates and apps that use background location data.

My phone died after 9 hours today. With only around 3.5-4 hours of usage. Most was texting, emails, and a little gaming near the end to kill it so I can recal, also turning on the screen off and on to check the battery. The hours and usage information shouldn't lie. I got no where near 10 hours of wifi life I would expect. I've run all the betas and the GM on my phone. Some builds had horrible life and known bugs, and some didn't. The GM seems like there could be a bug. Even the review sites noticed a significant decrease in battery life on the same hardware between IOS 6 and IOS 7. I appreciate you trying to bring some perspective to the conversation, but most of us are using a new OS on hardware we have used for almost a year (iPhone 5) and can tell if something isn't normal. I should not be expected to turn off features I have used for a year in order to return to near normal battery life. New features shouldn't drain the battery as significantly as it has, however, I did turn much off to test. Didn't seem to make a difference. I can't tie it down to anything, and I'm trying to think like an engineer.

I was having the same issue on vzw iPhone 5 losing 4% simply typing 3 texts. I got to thinking about the download issues when upgrading to ios 7. Mine failed several times during the process like everyone else. So I backed up my phone to iCloud and reset the iPhone to factory. I reactivated and restored from back up. It has been three hours, a few phone calls, texts and Siri usage and I'm still at 100%. Seems to have worked.

Well got it to drain and it's charging now. So far it's taken 1 1/2 hours to charge to 40%

Apple tech INSISTS I have a battery issue and they also keep going on and on about turning off this that and the other thing. Seriously? I turned off TONS of stuff and now she's telling me to turn off LTE when I'm in an area that doesn't have it.

Seriously? The phone should work like it did BEFORE the upgrade without it sucking the life out and it should charge to 100% in about an hour like it DID BEFORE!

Apple is passing the buck - to who I don't know, but I do know my phone had no problems until I upgraded to iOS7.

I have an appt with the Apple store Monday to do some deep diagnosing. Until then, I'll carefully monitor it and keep notes and bring with me.

I just wrote an email on my phone 5 and wnet to browse some info in the net went back to finnish email and my battery went from 20% to 5% in less than 5 min. Isnt this great?
