Hi you are right, The ios7 has caused a problem with my iPhone 4S but will be replaced because its 10months old. I have read an article tonight that has made me unimpressed with Apple. They have no plans to sort the wifi issue and that customers are on there own. If Apple don't stand by there loyal customers and sort this, then the customers will eventually buy other products. I for one will not purchase another Apple product even after a replacement.

I don't know what I did it if I got lucky but I called apple and explain that I downloaded via wifi and then my wifi was broke and that my phone was 2 months out of warranty and after speaking with 3 people they approved a new phone for me. 1 hr later I'm at apple store and now I have my new phone. Freakin amazing I couldn't thank them enough.

Now my new phone is back on IOS 6 I am afraid to upgrade it. Not to mention battery life was awful on 7. For now I think I will keep 6

***UPDATE*** Well I went to the Genius Bar at the Austin Apple store. There were a lot of other customers with the same problem. Apple was aware of the issue when I came in. In-fact when I made my appointment they asked me if the button was greyed out when I said I couldn't turn on my wifi, so they were well aware of the issue. Place was busy like a trading floor and they were backed up for servicing their appointments by two hours when I showed for mine. They were still charging everyone $200 for replacements. Like I said before I refuse to pay that.... So off to Samsung, Galaxy here I go.

This is either a major quality blight on Apple even if their story of a hardware issue was true. Or their very incompentant. Either or, pick one. I don't want to deal with it anymore.

Goodluck to all of us if apple would bulge and listen this time...we've been belingered by the same problem since IOS 6 and Apple said it was a hardware issue on most phones and not related to updating to IOS 6.......didnt buy it and put my 4s in the drawers for months since then, just gathering dust.....then lately had it updated to IOS 7 thru itunes and got wifi back on for a while until it dropped out and happened As frequent as most users on this thread....same bandaid fixes work but still will drop out after some time...i was even able to update it to the latest ios 7.0.2 OTA using home wifi and did facebook a lot....wifi still drops and had same hanging issues esp. On settings menu......Apple, who's lying now?......fix our phones and get your act together......be responsible on your wreckless & damaging upgrades.....otherwise, you'll be a sinking ship

It's appearing to me that the connection between the iPhone and the router has changed between IOS6 and IOS7. When the same phone tries to connect to the wifi network the network is noticing that the same phone is now connecting using "slightly" different protocol "connection settings" and rejects the connection; sometimes allowing a limited connection. When we reboot the router (local wifi connection) it clears out the remaining IOS 6 connection image and will then fully accept the IOS 7 connection.

This is just my conjecture based on working with computers and networks, every day, since the early 70's

I'm having the same problem. My Wifi option is greyed out on my iPhone 4S. I've reset the phone and reset the network settings which works at first but then the phone lags for a second, drops the connection, and the Wifi is greyed out again. I've set up a call with Apple on Monday. Apparently they are aware there are problems because when I chose to opt out of paying for the call one of the reasons for the exception was "You've recently updated to iOS 7" along with "You have Apple Care". We'll see. I refuse to pay for a new phone when the warranty just ran out at the beginning of this month and an update from the company is causing my phone not to operate properly when it was fine before. I agree that if they insist on us paying to fix it I will just take my business to their competitors.I understand that technology has flaws from time to time and I've dealt with plenty from Apple over the past few years, so hopefully they'll get this problem fixed soon.

I did file a complaint at Apple's feedback site, but I think the prospects are rather dim. If they wanted to accept responsibility for this fiasco, they would have done it long ago (just imagine a communique from Apple: "We are aware of the problem, it is our fault, and we are working day and night to put it right. Sorry y'all!" - now, THAT would be a totally different kettle of fish!). For now their attitude seems to be "your problems, not ours". I am this close to saying: "To **** with this, even if I have to repurchase all my favorite apps for a new Android smartphone, it will be cheaper than buying a new phone or paying for a replacement, so I should probably cut my losses and run. THAT they will understand - "voting with your feet" has always been and will always be the most efficient method of punishing corporations which grow smug and unresponsive. That is what competition is for, after all. I give them two weeks maximum to come up with a solution (or a recognition of the problem), and then off I go to greener pastures (the Far East seems a good place to start)... And yes, this IS an ultimatum... 👿

I have an iphone 4s 16gb that had wifi and blue tooth issues. If you haven't done anything about it, this is my story, which might help some of you. I checked with an Apple call centre agent over the phone and was told that in my case the phone would be replaced under warranty as it is just over 10 months old. I booked an appointment at the genius bar and I took my phone along to the Buchanan Street Glasgow Store and the phone was replaced no problem at all, the staff were excellent. What I managed to find out, that my hardware chip was probably faulty already, but the fault was hidden until the update sending the chip over the edge affecting the wifi and bluetooth. If your phone has either the full warranty or Applecare extended warranty: Call an Apple agent to check if you can get a replacement, Book an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local store, take your phone along, hopefully it should be replaced with a new handset providing there is no other damage to the existing handset. You will get a new handset and the staff should update the software for you before you leave. Make sure before going to the Apple Store that you back everything up either to your computer or icloud so you can get it back. Make sure when you go to the store you know your Apple Id and Password. In my case my problem is resolved

I have read well over a hundred messages over the last few days and I can see the anger and frustration that this problem has caused. I am still disappointed with Apple because the way that this matter is being handled overall. In my opinion, If Apple can do alot of PR for IOS7 on how improved it is, then naturally people will want to download the latest software to there devices to keep up to date. Apple should realise that people spend alot of money on Apple products because of the quality and the brand name, so customers should expect nothing but the best and the products to work. Yes things can go wrong, but if there is a recognised chip error with IOS 7 to Iphones 4s that is only coming to light as a result of the IOS 7 update, then I seriously hope hope that Apple do something about it and look after all their customers. If Apple does not sort this out then they could loose alot of valuable customers to other well known brand names. COME ON APPLE SORT THIS OUT YOU KNOW YOU CAN. On the other side of this, maybe think about investing on Applecare extended warranty, before your main warranty runs out, I know I will be soon. I hope this helps some people and good luck.

Agree with your balanced opinion here.

As you point out the real question is what Apple want to do about the unfortunate 4S customers who basically had an unreliable phone (from the hardware point of view) but didn't know about this until ios 7 caused the breakdown. There are many people like me who have just run out of the warranty but thought they were buying a quality product - obviously not a quality product if there is a chip prone to breakdown. Why should we pay for a production mistake that is clearly Apple's fault?

What do Apple want to do about it? Remain silent?

I wonder did Apple know about the chip being faulty and if so, why was there never a product recall done? How big is the problem? It is unfair that the customer is suffering becuse of all this. As for you, I completely understand your frustration, I wish I could help but this is Apple's problem and they need to sort it. I was getting a mini Ipad for Christmas from my family, I have told them to look at other ipads.....Not buying another apple product, whether my phone is fixed or not. All the best to you I hope you get this sorted? ITS SO UNFAIR.
