I've contacted Apple following this link http://www.apple.com/support/contact/, follow the steps. If your Care Plan has expired click on Exception -> IOS7.

It seems my iPhone 4s had a hardware issue with the WIFI chip. Apple replaced my iPhone without costs and mine had no warranty!

Hope it helps!

I am in Canada. iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2.

Experienced the same greyed wifi issue since update.

My phone is out of warranty by more than half a year.

Followed instruction from Apple's knowledge base, all the tricks explained here and in other threads, except the dryer/freezer ones.

Sometimes, immediatly after applying a fix, wifi/bluetooth became enabled, but never more than half an hour.

Yesterday, Oct 5, I followed user Tommeucanyellas recommandation, quoted here.

I chose the right Country, and clicked the following:

iPhone > Service request & Troubleshooting > Restore or update not working as expected.

Then I entered my serial number. Then choose iOS 7 in the next menu.

I chose to schedule a call. The phone rang at the exact scheduled time. Spoke to a first nice and polite representative who asked if I tried the workarounds explained on the Apple knowledge base, as well as backup/restore and reset network settings. Then I've been put on hold for a couple of minutes. When she came back, she transferred me to a senior representative.

The senior representative acknowledged the situation and apologied. Without me asking anything yet, he offered me to make an exception, a free replacement.

To get the new phone, he proposed to

-go to an apple store (this is a 3 hours drive for me)

-I send my phone, when they get it the send a new one.

-They charge my CC, send me a phone, then I have 10 days to send them the faulty one with the box I received my new phone in. Then they undo the CC billing.

I chose the last option of course.

The same day the new phone left the warehouse in PA and is scheduled to arrive at my place by tuesday.

At the end of the conversation I asked if he was aware of the technical issue. He couldnt tell me, but said that was a known issue and some customers were experiencing this.

I must admit I've been pleasantly surprised about the outcome of this issue.

For those not having luck at an AppleStore, I suggest you try this.

Thanks to Tommeucanyellas for bringing this solution out.

I have an iPhone 4S and wifi worked 100% TILL i updated to the dreaded iOS 7! What a pot of crap! Apple if you do not fix this nonsense soon or Samsung and Android will be laughing all the way to the bank. There is no way that it is a hardware issue if all the people are experiencing this at the same time, right when they update to iOS 7. It is safe to say there is no way I’ll update my iPad to the laughing stock of mobile operating systems that is called iOS 7.

So I just wanted to add my experience: I have a iPhone 5, was working fine until iOS 7 now the constant network drop-off I can search the network but can never connect to them it just connect randomly and even when I try to connect to it it usually say something like "wrong password" or "unable to join" while in fact my other device are connecting fin every time I lock my phone, Even with the IOS 7.0.2 update Apple has still not fixed the Wifi issue, nor the background wallpaper issue in which you can properly move or scale, this is truly pathetic, I have been a loyal apple customer but this just pushing me to go for an android may I have better luck.

I have the same 'wifi grayed out' problem here. I spent most of my day Saturday dealing with this problem. I tried the airplane mode, updgraded to IOS 7.2, restored my phone to factory settings and still no WiFi. I was on the phone with Apple who claims it is not related to the IOS 7 update and that it is a hardware problem. Of course, my phone is outside of warranty and Apple is telling me I need to replace the phone at my own expense. WHATEVER!! My phone was working just fine before this upgrade. If it is hardware problem, then why are so many people having the same problem at the same time. They better fix this soon!

I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one with this problem.. I thought it was my wifi or my Sprint iPhone, but no..... My phone connects just fine with my wifi at work after upgrading to iOS 7, but won't connect to my home wifi from Verizon now. But my friend who upgraded at the same time, with his AT&T iPhone can connect t my home wifi just fine. I upgraded at my work, using their wifi and he upgraded here using my home wifi. I wonder if that made a difference. And I have a Sprint iPhone, he has AT&T, would that make a difference? I haven't upgraded my iPad and I never will as long as this is a problem. Well, at least I can connect while at work, although don't tell my boss ....:). I don't know what's going on but it definitely makes the Samsung Galaxy 4 look mighty good for Christmas and throwing this iPhone 4S in the trash.. Jus sayin' =^..^=

hey guys,

Same problem here.

iphone 4S working like a charme before going to iOS7

ipad works OK on iOS7 (can't switch off any program running in de background)

iOS7 was working perfect during 1 week, now i have no WIFI, and some times the phone shuts off (same like your battery would be on 0%) even when de display indicates 25%.

wifi abel to switch on en off (visual but not for real) with the quick menu, in settings en then wifi, not abel switch on or off.

yesterday night i tried to down grade, but this didn't work. to day i am back up en running iOS7 but still no wifi.

apperently you only could dowgrade during beta trial.

Yep, mine was working fine even after the 7.02 update, until this afternoon. Spent the last 5 hours trying everything that's been suggested and my wifi slider is still stuck to off. It started at my friends house, it had connected to her wifi earlier in the day but then disconnected. I turned my phone off and back on and the wifi had turned itself off and won't turn back on. I work as Cabin crew and my phone being turned on flight safe mode had been working fine. Since I lost the ability to turn my wifi on the screen has been freezing, apps keep crashing and the screen keeps going blank when I make a call so to hang up from the phone call I have to turn my phone off and back on. Back home and my phone won't connect to my wifi which it had before leaving the house this morning. My iPads working fine with the ios7.0 but I won't be updating that to 7.2 with fear it will create the same problem!

Funny enough, I went to the apple store last night, there was also a gal next to me with the exact same problem and the "genius" in the bar told me that I was having a hardware problem with the wifi... Even when his diagnostic software said NORMAL in the screen in front of him. So he told me I needed to replace my phone to a $199 cost. I don't think so... Guess what Apple? You just lost an apple fan and customer! Way to go! I'm definitely not buying another apple product ever. Do you guys at Apple think we're pumpkins?? You screwed up big time with this joke of iOS and you still expect us to pay you to fix? When a lot of people complaint about the same is for a reason apple, listen to your customers... Samsung I think I'll take a look at you phones now.

I am having the same issue. My wifi worked for about a week after I did the update and now nothing. Mine is grayed out like most of the others and I did the whole airplane mode and reset and nothing. The other thing I noticed is my phone will be at 50 percent battery life and then all of suddent it would just turn off and be dead with no warning. I am really disappointed and not sure what to do regarding this! I did the new 7.0.2 update or whatever to "fix bugs" but it didnt fix any of the problems that I am seeing people are having.

Yes, I too have loved Apple - I have 3 iphones here in the hosue for 3 members of the family. I was due a contract upgrade last week so got a Samsung GS4! But, I would still like to sort out the wi-fi on the IPhone because it is a very expensive item if its only use is as a camera and calculator!

I declare, that of the last 3 ios upgrades with 3 phones, I have had 7 serious problems - Never more Apple for me, unless they take responsibility and sort it out. It cannot be the hardware when so many people have the same problem and were fine on ios6. If that seriously is the case, then fix it so that we can go back and use these very expensive pieces of kit. My business is siffering badly from this.
