I've contacted Apple following this link http://www.apple.com/support/contact/, follow the steps. If your Care Plan has expired click on Exception -> IOS7.

It seems my iPhone 4s had a hardware issue with the WIFI chip. Apple replaced my iPhone without costs and mine had no warranty!

Hope it helps!

I am in Canada. iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2.

Experienced the same greyed wifi issue since update.

My phone is out of warranty by more than half a year.

Followed instruction from Apple's knowledge base, all the tricks explained here and in other threads, except the dryer/freezer ones.

Sometimes, immediatly after applying a fix, wifi/bluetooth became enabled, but never more than half an hour.

Yesterday, Oct 5, I followed user Tommeucanyellas recommandation, quoted here.

I chose the right Country, and clicked the following:

iPhone > Service request & Troubleshooting > Restore or update not working as expected.

Then I entered my serial number. Then choose iOS 7 in the next menu.

I chose to schedule a call. The phone rang at the exact scheduled time. Spoke to a first nice and polite representative who asked if I tried the workarounds explained on the Apple knowledge base, as well as backup/restore and reset network settings. Then I've been put on hold for a couple of minutes. When she came back, she transferred me to a senior representative.

The senior representative acknowledged the situation and apologied. Without me asking anything yet, he offered me to make an exception, a free replacement.

To get the new phone, he proposed to

-go to an apple store (this is a 3 hours drive for me)

-I send my phone, when they get it the send a new one.

-They charge my CC, send me a phone, then I have 10 days to send them the faulty one with the box I received my new phone in. Then they undo the CC billing.

I chose the last option of course.

The same day the new phone left the warehouse in PA and is scheduled to arrive at my place by tuesday.

At the end of the conversation I asked if he was aware of the technical issue. He couldnt tell me, but said that was a known issue and some customers were experiencing this.

I must admit I've been pleasantly surprised about the outcome of this issue.

For those not having luck at an AppleStore, I suggest you try this.

Thanks to Tommeucanyellas for bringing this solution out.

I am with you all the way Prokhozhy.

We are victims of an iOS upgrade gone wrong due to insufficient testing by Apple and we are seriously affected (workwise and financially) as result. In the meantime we are all practically begging Apple to break their silence and to come up with a response on this situation which we are now in.

Some people in this discussion are behaving in a way which makes me think they're either disgruntled Apple support desk employees or otherwise Apple shareholders afraid their stockvalue may be affected.

Furthermore their rhetoric makes no sense whatsover and their only interest seems to be to stoke and to anger others. Actiually when you click on their names and look into all the discussions they have participated in you'll see the value of their input is frequently neglectable and you feel some obvious anger, frustration and bitterness they seem to have.....

Just ignoring their comments is the best thing we can do.....

Money talks!!!! Don't buy a new IPhone because your wifi was messed up by Apple. Demand a new IPhone for free of charge. You or I didn't break the phone now did we? If no phone is GIVEN to you that works for free I would buy another brand and forget about Apple. One Day a great phone the next day I want to put a hammer to it. Money Talks,,,, don't give them money to fix the problem they created. This effects millions of people around the world. Together we are more powerful than APPLE or any company. Demand an Upgrade to the 5S so we don't have to put up with this in there future because you never know what the next update will do.

I have a 4S ...I had no greyed out wifi so far but the wifi is not able to maintain a connection longer than 3 or 4 minutes, it comes back after around 20 seconds only to fail again in a minute or so...

My real problem is in fact, with my iPad 4 cellular, which has the same issue, only it happens on both types of connection, wifi AND cellular.

What's really strange is that on some routers both devices can sustain a strong, continuous connection.

It happened in an airport public wifi, and at my mother's place (which has a TP-Link TL-WR841N ver. 8.x.)

So, you see, it's not only the 4S, and not the same issue, and not always...and that's bad, because Apple might consider it's not such a bad thing, and prolong this situation until I'll be force to buy an android device which I really don't want...

So, did you upgrade to iOS 7 after your phone was replaced? I also have an iPhone 5 that was replaced at the Apple store but it's still on iOS 6 until I am convinced this issue has been addressed. I also have a 4s and an iPad in the house. All are on iOS 6 until I hear otherwise. I was forturnate to get my 5 replaced and I'm thinking they won't be too fond of me if I walk in again with the same problem on a new phone. "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

HI, I am in India, I got the phone in California- iphone5. looks I too have the hardware issue with wifi.I spoke in India and they dont cover replacing devices brought outside india. how to deal with this pl suggestr

Get on plane and fly back to the US. It is probably cheaper to just buy a new phone in India. You took a risk buying a phone in the US and taking it back to India. You may have saved a few dollars in the beginning but when it is all said and done it has really cost you a lot of money. People get warned about warranty issues in other countries. Your problem is a prime example.

Dear all,

I decided to do this reply for help everybody. I´m from Argentina, I have an Iphone 4s 32GB purchased on June 2012.

When I updated to Ios 7.00 no wifi issues. Last week I updated to 7.0.2 instantly starts wifi issues, over heating and stopped working. I was tried every I read in this post and others and nothing change. I Tried hard reset to factory settings and nothing. I am sure that the problem is with Ios 7.0.2, because the problem start at this moment.

Anybody knows if Apple will release a fix for this bug?

Thanks for all your comments and try to help togheter.

Best regards,

Maritn

Really? Delete this too....

If the software overheats the hardware requiring a temperature change to the hardware to get it working, it's a software issue. Not a hardware issue.

Some people still don't get it.

We'll try it another way. Apple sells us four quarts of engine oil (iOS 7) with a use at your own risk disclaimer. It overheats the engine in my expensive car (iPhone 4S in my case). I'm not going to buy a new car from the oil manufacturer, I'm going to buy new engine oil I know works from another manufacturer.

Does that help? Because some people obviously don't understand.

Hello folks ;

I received a brand new factory i4S in exchange (for free) for my "greyed-out wifi-button after 30h of iOS7" i4S.

Living in Europe , the 2nd warranty year is provided by the network provider.

It's fitted with iOS6.1.3. , i'm happy to get back my beloved iOS6 i4S.

I will never ever do an update to iOS again,

and thanks APPLE , i'm enjoying a Google NEXUS 7 2013 tablett at home.

this issue is also happening on my wife's iphone 4s with ios 6.1.3. it started last week, so if we updated to ios7 we probably would have blamed that newest ios as well. as it is i think it's a hardware issue that apple needs to fix for free.

i probably have gotten wifi to work twice in the past several days by virtue of multiple combinations of restarting and resetting network settings -- i didn't really see a pattern -- but it didn't last. this is really annoying and makes me regret buying her the iphone. the only reason i went with the iphone for her is that she's not very technical and the device is easy to use. i also got her an ipad3, which is now on ios7.0.2 i think. i'm crossing my fingers that it's wifi won't break down as well.

i will probably see what we can get from apple customer service on this. if they ask $200 to repair this, then i will say goodbye to apple forever.

I can appreciate your issue, but it seems like a totally different issue than was cited at the start of this thread. Is your WiFi button greyed out? It isn't right? Read from the beginning, all the posts, and you will see there is a difference. If you can get the WiFi working again by using these tips then I congratulate you. If our phones were just old then I would, nor would my family and friends be as irate. But that is not the issue. A phone, though warrantied for only a year, should as most consumer products last for atleast two years. Most consumer products (autos for one) last more than a year. Thats why car manufacturers have recalls. Recalls aren't only incepted to comply with regulation. Companies who make consumer products that are sold through carriers for two years service imply that their product will work for those two years. Its an implication.

Anyone who EXPECTS (not wants) anything for free without earning it is just rediculous. We turned over our EARNED income for this defect. That's the redux. So in essance we already paid for a fix. Another company is just wanting to steal hard earned money in a scam. Thanks for your input.

Good luck to you and your wife's ipad. I hope it maintains WiFi as well.
