I've contacted Apple following this link http://www.apple.com/support/contact/, follow the steps. If your Care Plan has expired click on Exception -> IOS7.
It seems my iPhone 4s had a hardware issue with the WIFI chip. Apple replaced my iPhone without costs and mine had no warranty!
Hope it helps!
I am in Canada. iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2.
Experienced the same greyed wifi issue since update.
My phone is out of warranty by more than half a year.
Followed instruction from Apple's knowledge base, all the tricks explained here and in other threads, except the dryer/freezer ones.
Sometimes, immediatly after applying a fix, wifi/bluetooth became enabled, but never more than half an hour.
Yesterday, Oct 5, I followed user Tommeucanyellas recommandation, quoted here.
I chose the right Country, and clicked the following:
iPhone > Service request & Troubleshooting > Restore or update not working as expected.
Then I entered my serial number. Then choose iOS 7 in the next menu.
I chose to schedule a call. The phone rang at the exact scheduled time. Spoke to a first nice and polite representative who asked if I tried the workarounds explained on the Apple knowledge base, as well as backup/restore and reset network settings. Then I've been put on hold for a couple of minutes. When she came back, she transferred me to a senior representative.
The senior representative acknowledged the situation and apologied. Without me asking anything yet, he offered me to make an exception, a free replacement.
To get the new phone, he proposed to
-go to an apple store (this is a 3 hours drive for me)
-I send my phone, when they get it the send a new one.
-They charge my CC, send me a phone, then I have 10 days to send them the faulty one with the box I received my new phone in. Then they undo the CC billing.
I chose the last option of course.
The same day the new phone left the warehouse in PA and is scheduled to arrive at my place by tuesday.
At the end of the conversation I asked if he was aware of the technical issue. He couldnt tell me, but said that was a known issue and some customers were experiencing this.
I must admit I've been pleasantly surprised about the outcome of this issue.
For those not having luck at an AppleStore, I suggest you try this.
Thanks to Tommeucanyellas for bringing this solution out.

It seems the same issue to me. WiFi is OFF/greyed out and can't slide it to ON. I admit I didn't read through all the posts so maybe there is a difference.
When I first googled about my problem I started looking for ios 6.1.3 and WiFi problems. Found a lot of people having the same issues as mine, but no actual solution. For the record, none of the tips really work IMO, unless the tip is to keep restarting/resetting. I just spent over an hour doing that this morning and still no WiFi. I didn't do the freezer trick. I was hoping that it's OS-related so I started looking for ios 7 and WiFi problems to see if there's mention of the problem being fixed. That is how I landed here. With ios 7 users having what I perceive as the same issue, I am continuing to holding off for now on applying the update. I don't want to deal with the battery life issue along with this WiFi problem.
In any case, I just wanted to give my 2 cents worth. If I applied the ios update as soon as it came out instead of holding off, my guess is that the WiFi issues would still have manifested themselves afterwards and I would firmly think it's just an issue with ios 7. Maybe it's a hardware problem that software just triggered. Maybe starting with 6.1.3 they boosted the power to the WiFi chipset in order to boost the signal, and it's just a matter of time before the hardware gave in . It's all conjecture for now, so you can ignore me. I just wish luck to all of us having problems, and hope that Apple comes to our aid.
There is clearly an issue with the Software of ios 7 running on the hardware of the iPhone 4S. This wi-fi issue seems to be the front runner, but there others: screen burning/light leaks, random shutdowns/reboots....ALL seemingly related to heat generated. Will apple fix this issue? maybe. When? weeks? months? Is it possible that your phone may become permanently damaged before the fix is released?
I myself have experienced all the above noted problems with 2 different replacement iphones in just under a month. I will now be asking for an iphone 5, or the the next replacement goes for sale and I get a Galaxy.
Just wanted to reply to your first post, I admit I haven't yet read the second. But I wanted to let you know that with WiFi not working on my wife's phone, we experienced extremely poor battery life. I mean that I charged it all night and with minimal use it needed charging again in the afternoon. So I hope things are better for you, but it was as if the Operating System continued to search for the WiFi device ("chip") and used power doing so. I hope you don't have the same issue. Just know that once we got her WiFi working the power drained stopped. I hope you have as good of an outcome.
Susan's post is that of a person who knows they are wrong, have nothing to contribute, and only gets angry at their inadequacies (never accused someone of having any but their reactions betray something being there). My anger is at someone taking what's mine without my permission. If you want to freely give your's go ahead. By the way I am taking my anger and going to Samsung. I strongly suggest others do the same.
Updated to ios7 the other day and immediately wi fi stopped working.
Seems I'm not the only one having problems from reading others on here......and the very nice girl at the Apple call centre in Lisbon assured me I was an exception when I called with problems whilst dowloading the upgrade.
So, back on the phone again I suppose.
This will be my last Apple device of any description. I've abandoned plans for an ipad and a mac at Xmas. I just dont have the patience in my old age !! Wish I'd stayed with ios6 !

My joy was too quick, although it lasted a couple of hours. WiFi is dead again! Now I'm sure that EVERY trick you can find on this thread and the web is just not working for my 4S (well, I still haven't tried the fridge).
**** you, Apple!!!
sorry to hear that man. i feel your pain. when i read your earlier post i knew that it wouldn't last. i didn't want to say that upfront so thanks for confirming. btw, i was bored and tried the freezer trick. i put it in a ziploc and place it at the bottom compartment of the freezer for 15 minutes. it did work, but WiFi died again after a while as I expected.
Seems you are making a very good point here. Customers will vote with their feet, as I intend to do...after 3 iphones with no problems. Life is too short to to have to deal with being messed about by a major corporation.....one day they may not be.
I went to my network provider today as Apple told me that although my warranty was up with them my network provider under EU law was responsible for the 2nd year warranty on my iphone. 2 different Vodafone shops and a call to customer service each one told me every manufacturer EXCEPT Apple is covered by a 2 year warranty. Apple charge Vodafone £150 to repair or replace any phone out of its 1 year warranty and so the charge is passed on to the customer and unless I can prove the phone was faulty from day one when I received the phone the EU consumer law does not apply. Makes you query how much confidence Apple have in their own products with only a one year warranty when all other Phone manufacturers provide 2 years.
Well now, I went to the Apple Store and hooked up to their WIFI no problem, I left the store, had problems, They wouldn't attempt to do much other than tell me "It's my problem" Life is too short, Greed is involved with this IOS update and lack of Common Sense testing,, We have HD TV but we still can use our CRT televisions if we choose as well. Lack of accountability here on Apple, Corporate Bullying, This is great for their competitors, Am I the only one here that writes for WIRED magazine? Well, Write to Wired magazine, about it.
Hard reset didn't work for me. I'm so fed up that I am now the proud owner of a droid. It's cheaper and I won't have these issues every time a new update comes along. Apple is forcing people to upgrade by purposely having the previous model to no longer work. Thankfully what I need is a phone and not a brand and I am no longer a loyal Apple customer. I thank them for fixing that problem and making me realize that other brands are just as good if not better. Can't wait to sell my iPad now and get a tablet that can do more than one thing at a time.
Forget it, Apple is ignoring the issue. There is no problem according to them. Like this 30 page forum, all these people just say what ever and it's all fake. That is pretty much what I was told. I went to the apple store today. My phone worked on their insecure wifi, the moment I left back to no wifi. This issue is about corporate greed and no accountability. Great to feel lied to. Who know when a fix will happen.
Hi Gail,
We do not have the same problem. The problem described here is the wifi button totally greyed out. Means you cannot even turn wifi on (not even talking about connecting to a wifi network or no).
Reset network settings, rebooting iphone does not help.
Putting the phone in the freezer could have very easily set off the water damage indicators in the phone. Meaning your phone may have water damage... Which us not covered by apples warranty. Just an FYI.
If and when the truth comes out and the **** hits the fan, Apple's failure to warn people who may be potentially exposed to the wifi disease to refrain from upgrading to iOS 7 may well enrage some people into suing Apple for damages - and will definitely encourage many people to get rid of Apple products and defect to its competitors. Either way, Apple's ostrich policy ("hide your head in the sand - and hope the problem will somehow go away") is going to cost it...
