The WIFI on my iPhone 4s died after a year and two months of purchasing it when I upgraded to ios 7.04 in November. Apple were no use, as everyone else has already shared on here, but they did suggest I take it to the shop I bought it from as consumers have a two year warranty in the EU by law (5 years in the UK). The reseller I bought it from said I was covered and they would send it off to be repaired. I thought I might be in luck until they phoned me two days later saying it wasn't valid as the phone had already been opened!! I never opened it, I bought it (brand new) in a sealed box so that only leaves the official Apple repair center. Go figure. Quite unbelievable!! Adding insult to injury.

Dear Mr. Deduction aka TJBUSMC1973,

If you read through this thread you will find that Apple has admitted to many the IOS is at fault. Many people, including myslef, have been told by Apple Care representatives that the iPhone 4S is set up with different components than the newer phones. It is a single compent in the 4S that caused phones to overheat, not hold a charge and have oddball problems including the very common, for iPhone 4S, lack of WiFi connectivity. Numerous silly solutions like placing your iPhone in the freezer have resulted. Also, numerous petitions, televisions news stories, class action suits and web threads like this one with 66 pages have resulted.

Now you can continue to be in denial and say that everyone with an iPhone 4S involved in upgrading to IOS 7 is just a sour customer. You can continue to defend Apple's warranty program even when it is Apple that is causing the defect and it's staff admits this. And you can rely on your decades of troubleshooting to come to a logical conclusion a la Spock. Beam me up TJBUSMC1973.

But deductive logic says you are delusional. Everybody on the planet is having problems but, in your mind, they are all crazy and you are the only sane one? Give us a break and find another thread to be the cheerleader for Apple. What we do deduct from your gibberish is that you have not been in touch with reality for a while and your decades of experience are not aiding you in maintaining a grasp on reality.

Apple screwed up. It won't admit it rolled this IOS out too soon. They did so to appease Apple stockholders due to a misplaced and poorly timed promise. They won't admit it now so stockholders won't revolt when hearing of the mistake and the cost and shame it would bring to Apple. In doing so, Apple has completely let down and aliened a huge number of Apple iPhone 4S owners. Apple screwed up, it won't admit it. It won't fix it. It is throwing its 4S customers under the bus and looking toward the future. There are more customers where those iPhone 4S customers came from is the Apple mantra. That is the deductive logic and it is a sad tale about a once trusted company.

Keep living in Dreamland. We're all wrong and you are the only logical thinker in the threead. Have it your way.

Us, we want Apple to fix our useless phones that it broke. This is called fair play. This is called responsibility.

Let me repost it for you buddy, That will show you another bunch of opinionated people saying same things about ios 6. If you review that other thread carefully, you will find one of the old timers posting same threads with ios 3, 4 and 5. But your opinion is very important to you - you welcome to stay with it. If your claim had a little basis Apple by now would give up and give something to people with problems without admission of guilt. Just like they gave out 29 dollars (probably cost them 19 cents to make) to people with pseudo reception problems of iphone 4. Or just like they refund money purchased by kids-30 bucks worth of software per person(Those people must have purchased thousands and already have refunds for long time) who can prove that their kids did that. And I know I am Apple employee just cause you want to label people with other opinions (I wish I was making as much as them guys).

Is that closure enough for you?

Which is it? Is it the iOS that is at fault, or a component of the 4S? It can't be both. It's either the software or the hardware. Also, since not every iPhone 4S has this issue, and since this issue has been around during iOS 6 and iOS 5, your logic is flawed.

And nowhere has Apple 'admitted' this, at least not officially. At best, an Apple employee may have thrown that out there, but that's not an official Apple response by any means. Additionally, any such accounts listed in this thread are second-hand, anecdotal comments. There are far more accounts of Apple employees telling customers that it is a hardware issue, and they need to replace their devices.

Show me an official statement by an Apple representative that is authorized to make such a statement that indicates it is the operating system. Please. I'm anxiously awaiting your proof.

"Everybody on the planet is having problems with their iPhone 4S"? That's hilarious. Please, provide any kind of proof of that, please.

What do you mean it can't be both? It is that exact combination.

I stated that Apple was loathe to admit it's error in rolling out a less than tested IOS due to a premature commitment it made to stockholders.

And now it will say this officially? Where's your logical deduction?

On the 66 pages on this single thread alone the complaints come from around the world. Read.

I think I found out the reason WIFI turns on/off by itself after upgrading to IOS 7.0.

It is because for some reason, IOS 7 can not handle both WIFI and BlueTooth be turned on together.

Turn off BlueTooth and see if this will solve the issue. It works for me, although it means I can not use any bluetooth item with it. This happens on IPad 3, IPhone 5, and Macbook (although it is not IOS 7.0, but the same thing happens after I upgraded it to Marvick.)

Apple used to mean quality product. But it seems after Steve Job, the whole company products line and supports started to go downhill. It really need another visionary like Steve Job to bring Apple back.

What a shame. If Steve Jobs were still alive, this simple WIFI/Bluetooth issue would never occur.

Wrong again. It's a hardware issue in the vast, vast majority of issues. That's why people are asking to get their devices replaced, for free, outside of warranty. If it wasn't a hardware issue, then why replace that device?

If it was the operating system, then EVERY unit would have the same problem. But since it doesn't (and this is where we use logic), that means it cannot be the iOS.

Three components are involved:

1) Hardware

2) Software

3) User Data

Well, we've eliminated the Software. So, the next step is to restore the iPhone as new, which removes all User Data. Once you've done that, the only possible variable left is the hardware. If the wi-fi is still greyed out, after restored as new, then it is a hardware issue.

This is called logic. Use it sometime.

Apr 24, 2014 7:02 AM in response to Timothy Rock

The problem has occured for some users after installing iOS 5. Or iOS 6. Or updating one of those operating system to an incremental update. Not just iOS 7. So, again, your conclusion is wrong, beacuse it's based on faulty data. If this was a brand new issue, never seen before, that only had occured after iOS 7 released, maybe then there would be some validity.

But that's not the case. If need be, I'll search the forum for you to show you reports of wi-fi greyed out in previous iOS versions.

Or actually, why not do that yourself? Use the forum search function and educate yourself.

As to why the issue occurs after an update? An iOS update causes the processor to work at a higher level than normal. This generates heat, higher than normal operation would. A defective wi-fi chip is likely to be more susceptible to heat than a non-defective one. So, after enough heat is applied to the wi-fi chip, it fails. This is also why sometimes there's a report of wi-fi failing after updating a lot of apps at one time, or after downloading a lot of data at one time, or after the iPhone has been outside on a hot, sunny day.

Heat is the culprit, not the software code.

Apr 24, 2014 5:46 PM in response to TJBUSMC1973

TJBUSMC1973 - Well this discussion is about IOS 7 and it is the only IOS I have personally had a problem with. However, by your own admission, this has been an ongoing problem that Apple is obviously aware for quite a while. Yet it makes no effort to replace a WiFi chip that can withstand the rigors of APPLE'S Updates. Again, APPLE'S updates. Did Apple warn anyone that updating an iPhone may cause these heat and WiFiu problems? **** no. Yet you continue to maintain that Apple is not at fault at all and is, indeed, a generous benefactor by offering $200 fixes to $600 phones that the Apple IOS update caused the $600 phone chip to overheat.

A known problem not fixed in three updates and it's is the buyer's problem? Well, yes it is because Apple accepts no responsibility for costing Apple phone owners a bunch of money and headaches. But heat isn't the problem. Apple's lack of transparency and Apple's inaction are the problems.

Keep drinking the Kool Aid.
