Iphone 4s ios 7 battery issues

I posted this question in the basics forum, but it probably belongs here: Since installing iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s, the battery life seems to be significantly reduced, at least judging by how quickly my battery life percentage meter keeps dropping. I've gone through and turned off all sorts of settings, like location services on most everything, etc. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? Anyone know of any fixes?

I upgraded both my iPhone 4S and iPad mini to the ios7 and am having the same issue. I now need to bring two sets of cables and two plugs with me everywhere I go. I switched to iPhone from Blackberry 2 years ago for this very reason and really feel that Apple has taken a HUGE step back with this new software update. I see that there is another update to counteract some of the issues but I didn't see anything in relation to the battery issue. Has anyone done this update and have u seen any improvements?

Apple don't recognise there is a battery issue, in the same way they don't recognise an issue with removing the photo frame feature which was part of the IPad setup from day one. They also don't recognise that for iPhone users, who put there phones in landscape when playing music. You can no longer see what song/album you are listening to, or easily select and search a track. The fact this has made using your phone to play music while driving very dangerous, is also not an issue.

Just a little update from my side and to answer to Raebee.

I upgraded to iOS 7.0.3 and I DID NOT notice any change for what concerns the battery charge issue ....plus getting few new troubles with text messaging ....but I will leave this for a different blog thread!!!

On top of that ....some new problems with contatcs back up on a local pc computer.

So DO NOT upgrade from iOS 7.0.2 to 7.0.3. No solutions to the current problems and may be aquisition of few new ones!

Update from earlier post:

When I first upgraded to iOS 7, my battery life was perhaps 25% of what it was before the upgrade, and the reported charge would make huge jumps (generally downward) with no correlation to usage.

Since then, my battery life is restored to perhaps 80% of the pre-upgrade life. I think the most significant factor in restoring the reported battery life was letting it discharge about six times, all the way to shutdown, followed by a full recharge. I assume this reset the battery calibration. Another factor may have been updating all my apps - I don't know whether this is truly a factor, but it is possible that some apps were bad actors before updating.

I noticed that while WiFi seems efficient, even brief Internet access using the cell network significantly depletes the battery. I'm not making special efforts to close apps.

Current configuration

version: 7.0.3 (no change either way moving up from 7.0.2)

Background app refresh - off (in Settings / General)

Auto downloads - all off (in Settings / iTunes & App Store)

WiFi on

Bluetooth on

Location services on, many, but not all apps enabled

Thank you Giopippo - I had a feeling no battery concerns fixed but also wanted to double check to see if new issues have arised from the "fix" software update which clearly there is. I guess I will follow forums before doing any updates just to be on the safe side. Thanks for the update and best of luck to you and everyone on this forum.

I went to the Apple Genius on Saturday who did a diagnostic on the phone and was told I had some 'corruption' in some of the application data. To fix this, the Genius performed a new OS install which of course, wiped out everything. So far, I don't seem to be having power issues, but don't use my phone as frequently on the weekend.

My husband was also experiencing weird battery issues, and he was told he had some sort of OS corruption. And guess what the Genius did to his phone? Yep...reinstalled the OS. Along with just about every other customer while we were there.

So is it a problem with the quality of the download? Unless they just don't know and they're doing 'something' to appease customers, it's anyone's guess. This, in my opinion, is the iPhone equivalent to a restart with no real explanation.

I'll update this forum thread after I've had a few more days with it to assess if it really worked.

If it can be of help to someone, when I removed the plastic screen protector, auto brightness is back to work, and also the battery consumption during use is returned to acceptable levels, with iPhone 4S and all background features turned off and iOs 7.0.3 (no differences from iOs 7.0.2).

It remains my opinion that iOS 7 detects the battery status in a very different way than its predecessor, and not always accurate (as long as it was not iOS 6 to give inaccurate information ...).

I have done five clean installs and set my phone up as new on each occasion. I am running iOS 7.0.3 on my four month old iPhone 5. I have more or less the same usage pattern daily and on iOS 6 I was achieving 8-8.5 hours on each battery cycle but with iOS 7 I am extremely lucky to achieve 6 hours. Usually my battery dies at the 5.5 hour mark. This is with every single new feature switched off and with minimal smartphone settings. The new o/s has crippled my phone and my battery now performs worse than the original one in my three year old iPhone 4, which believe me has lived a hard life!

As my iPhone 5 battery ages I am going to see a significant reduction in my already lousy 5.5 hour battery life. Come on Apple, this is unacceptable. I'm a longtime iPhone user and have owned the i3, i4 and now i5. If I'm just left out to dry on this and made to lump it with no apology, no explanation and no solution then you can be sure I'll be taking my business elsewhere when my contract is up for renewal.
