Iphone 4s ios 7 battery issues

I posted this question in the basics forum, but it probably belongs here: Since installing iOS 7 on my iPhone 4s, the battery life seems to be significantly reduced, at least judging by how quickly my battery life percentage meter keeps dropping. I've gone through and turned off all sorts of settings, like location services on most everything, etc. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue? Anyone know of any fixes?

Can I ask a question? Why on earth does the company once and for all put up its hands and make a statement that they have made a big mistake in introducing ios7. They must of been aware of the adverse effect it would have on certain phones. If they knew this then why go ahead. I for one will never buy an iphone again. Company stance is one of contempt for its customers.

I was having the same issue with my iPhone 4S after the update to ios7. Before the update, I would always have the "Auto-Lock" setting for my screen enabled so it would lock after 5 minutes. I don't recall if the update reset this, but I had changed it to "never" afterwards for various reasons and forgot to change it back. Needless to say, that was the reason for my battery drain. I've reset the auto-lock to engage after 5 minutes again and my battery lasts even longer than before the update! I hope this helps some of you. Let me know if it does.

iPhone owners aren't the only ones they view with contempt. It's even worse for suckers like me that bought their top of the line notebooks: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5375029

So iOS 7.0.3 is out and nothing about battery fix is mentioned under LEARN MORE!

Should I donwload it or it will mess up my iPhone 4S more!

Currently, I can\t use my iPhone 4S on 3G or wifi for more than 10 minutes!

It will shut down after 10 minutes even if it has 90% battery life!

The question is, why did Apple release an update without any fix for battery?

They don't care or they havent seen this thread?

I don't see how it could make it worse.

What if iOS 7 intentionally fries a cetain percentage of 4S Phones purposely? Not enough that anybody could claim there is a universal battery bug but enough to inflate iPhone 5S upgrades? Let's face it, the average idiot will not complain or even notice in today's consummer culture. "Oh it doesn't work good anymore? Better get a new one."

Tigertone,

I am part of the percentage (I don't know how small) who did get relief from help at the Apple Store. My battery was not in bad shape before the update but was certainly starting to fade. In hindsight, I realize that I was plugging it in more often towards the end of the day, although it usually made it through the whole day. After the ios update, I had to plug in after only an hour or so of use--definitely a marked degradation. Something in the ios brought out the problems with my battery. I tried turning stuff off, restoring the device, etc. So I went to the Apple Store.

They tested my battery and found that it failed the test and classified it as "expired." They changed the battery (free for me and $79 if you don't have Applecare) but made no promises. They told me there may still be a bug in the ios or in my apps. They told me Apple IS working on it, but they may have just been saying that to make me feel better.

I came home with low expectations but, what do you know, my phone is REALLY good now. I never turn off wifi, bluetooth, etc. I even turned on some new features that supposedly eat up batteries, like auto-updating my apps. My phone regularly ends a 15 hour day with 20% battery left and I use it quite a bit. I am not streaming content the whole day unplugged but I am receiving notifications, checking email obsessively, listening to Instacast, running Waze as needed (I do quit that when done), etc.

Please don't flame me or call me names. I just want to give hope that some of you will be able to get a fix without having to buy a new device. Sometimes it really IS a failing battery. I don't know why ios 7 exacerbated it but it is possible that some of the new programming did make it worse, but it can be fixed in many cases with a new battery. I am posting this after much thought and consideration because people get a fix and disappear from these boards and then the only posters left are the ones still having issues.

Linda,

Thank you for your feedback.

Unhappy my battery is not expired and still in good stand, but the problem with the battery life still the same, I need to charge two times per day.

I had a lot of hope with IOS 7.0.3, but looks like they didn't fix the battery issues.

I didn't download the IOS 7.0.3, because I am concern that could get worse the battery life.

It is good to know that you solve your problem.

A little update to remark how this is definitively a software bug along with a wrong battery level interpretation. I'm using my iPhone4S for taking photos here and there when I'm out and I've noticed that during a five-ten shooting session the battery drops usually 10-30% (it depends on how many photos I take) in a single step. This morning it drops from 53% to 28% just after I took the last shot after 5mins. Sometimes I'm able magically to "recharge" the iPhone simply hard resetting it (holding sleep plus home buttons till the logo appears). In fact after that reset, the battery shows almost the charge it had before the abnormal discharge. Sometimes it doesn't work, but I can use my iPhone as if it did, because the last 1% of battery charge, again magically, lasts almost one hour of mild stress, i.e. Internet browsing, text messaging and photo editing. 1% for 1 hr, it's a record! I mean it's definitely a sw bug and not and hw issue, since I've never noticed it before with iOS 6.x.x.

Have a great 1% guys, all the best!
