On itunes 11.1, can you delete podcast episodes? All old episodes appear in the list, and right click/delete is not an option.

In iTunes 11.1, all podcasts episodes appear in the list.

I cannot delete any from the list - if I right click and choose delete, the episode is still in the list and shows it can be downloaded.

How do you delete an episode of a podcast in iTunes 11.1

Delete works fine people. The problem is that it shows old episodes. The podcasts that are on your local hard drive have a big blue dot next to it. Deleting podcasts that have a blue dot next to it is easy and works well. The podcast will no longer have a blue dot next to it but still be in the list.

Till they make a minor release to fix the "show old episodes toggle," you will see old episodes listed. For some podcasts, this is a rather large list.

We know that delete works fine for getting rid of the file stored on your machine. That's not the issue.

We don't want our podcast lists cluttered with entries for episodes we're not interested in either because:

  • We've already listened to them
  • We don't find them interesting

Some podcasts run to more than a hundred available episodes. I want to get rid of the ones I don't want to see. This is something that worked fine up until this latest release.

You don't NEED to switch to list view. All podcast in the RSS feeds will appear in the list on list view. The ones that are on your local machine will have a blue dot to the left of them. Right click on those and you will have a delete option that works. The entry will still be there but the podcast will not be on your local machine.

You will get expected behavior when they fix the "Show old episodes" toggle.

thatsiebguy, swordedge: we may not "need" to see the "List" view, but we prefer the List view — and we want it uncluttered from podcasts we've opted to delete. And yes, of course "You will get expected behavior when they fix the "Show old episodes" toggle": ie, the problem will be fixed when Apple fixes it 😉 . We're up in arms because it was working fine before, and now it's causing us hassle.

So by your logic every single song, by an artist who has one hit I wnat to listen to on occasion, should show thier entire repertoir on my computer? I'm sorry but it appears that everyone complaining on this forum likes to use List Veiw because it is the most comfortable and makes the most sense.

Please, everyone, go the extra mile and give Apple Feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

It's in everyone's best interest to see that they don't go down the same path Steve Balmer took Micrsoft.

This was driving me crazy also but I seem to have something working.

I created a "Smart Playlist" that I called "Master Podcast List" and made the rule "Genre" "contains" "Podcast". It seems to be working to show only my unplayed podcasts and by using "Shift" and "Delete" and can delete the podcasts once I have played them.

In the List view of the Master Podcast List (icon at the top right corner) I can see all the podcasts I am still waiting to play. At first they were all shown in the list randomly but I clicked on the header for the "Album by Artist" column and found that it cycles among "Album by Artist", "Album by Artist/Year", and just "Album". The "Album" choice is the same way the LIbrary Podcast list sorts them and that put the podcasts in the order I was used to seeing them in. Now I find that if I click on the "Date Added" column it sorts the podcasts that way but still keeps them in the album groups, which is what I wanted.

I can't find a way to get the list view to insert sections like the Podcast list in Library does but if I click on Artist List on the view icon in my Master Podcast List it does pretty much the same thing.

I did not check the Master Podcast List in the "Include Episodes from Playlists" selection on the Podcasts tab of my Ipad and Iphone Devices, just the playlists I wanted to sync and that is working properly also, the playlists for the Podcasts as I already had them are syncing to both devices as expected.

Now I am into the weekend and won't have any Podcast activity for a few days, will have to see what happens next week when the Podcasts start updating to see if this keeps working.

Another way of seeing only unplayed Podcasts is to click on the "Unplayed" tab in LIbrary Podcasts and in that view I find that I can delete podcasts just by clicking the delete key and that makes the podcast disappear from the unplayed group, although they still appears in the List view. Now that I played with that option I can see what Apple is up to. The List view provides a fairly comprehensive list of all the Podcasts that are available and the Unplayed view shows only those that are unplayed. In the Unplayed view I have the option to delete unwanted Podcasts from the view and from the computer but if I make a mistake and delete one I don't want to I can go right back to the main List view and restore it. I still like my Master Podcast List because it gives me the simple line by line view I am accustomed to but the Unplayed view in the Library accomplishes pretty much the same thing.

That's great if you never want to listen to a podcast again after listing to it. However, most of us coolect the podcasts we like and toss the ones that suck. The only way to do that is to have a List Veiw that allows us to trash the ones we don't want. Just as it always has been until this latest release.

The worst thing that has happened at Apple is that the people taking Feedback no longer read these blogs, only moderators that delete everything. I'm guessing 90% of these posts have been deleted and the programmers have no idea how bad everyone hates this lastest version of iTunes.

Go to Feedback everyone and give them your honest thoughts. http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

I have been away on holidays and have just come back to see that Apple have decided that I dont know how to manage MY podcast list any more because they decided to change it to a way that suited them

Not being able to remove old pocasts from the list view is plain ridiculos some of the ones i listen to now have a list that goes back to 2006 which is stupid

I am old enough to be able to look after MY own things Apple devs so please stop changing them to suit you and niot me
