I can not restore because I can not turn off Find my Iphone

Hello,

I'm using iphone 5 with ios 7. I just upgraded ios 7 today. after upgrade I realised that passcode was activated before upgrade I was not using that feature. I forgot my passcode so I got my phone disabled for a while. I searched the discussions and saw that I need to restore and then restore from back up to have the passcode to disable. When I try to restore my phone I got the below message:

Find My iPhone must be turned off before “Jean” can be restored.

Go to iCloud Settings on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone before restoring your iPhone.

I can not turn off Find my Iphone because my phone locked and I forgot the passcode.

Anyone can help?

If you go to iCloud.com/find and login, you will be able to remove the phone from your iCloud account. That should allow you to then restore the iPhone as needed to resolve the issue. Hope this helps!

Follow the steps above to remove it from the account, but then

"After the device has been removed from the account, turn it off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button located on the top right side of the device. Then restart your device and proceed with device setup as you would normally. "

If you're locked out of your iPad and it's telling you that you need to disable "Find my iPhone".

And... you have access to a computer that you've synced your iPad with before.

Do these steps in the very specific order:

  1. Pull up itunes on your computer
  2. Turn off your ipad
  3. Plug the cord into your computer (a computer that you have synced your iPad with before)

... DO NOT PLUG INTO IPAD YET

  4. Hold down the home buttom (The iPad is off.. and not plugged in)
  5. Keep the home button pressed down.... Until I mention to release it
  6. With the home button pressed down (the circle button).... with iTunes on the computer... and with the cord plugged into the computer.... Now, plug in the cord to the iPad. (Keep the home button pressed in).
  7. On iTunes it will offer you the option to restore the iPad (This will wipe everything from you ipad unless it's backed up in the cloud).
  8. Once you've clicked "restore" for the computer to start erasing and restoring... ONLY THEN release the home button (circle button).
  9. Wait a bit.... It will do it's thing.
  10. Eventually it will restore to apple settings.

If it's your iPhone... do the same thing.

This works but be sure to not lift your finger off the home button between steps 3 and 4. Keep it held down until you see the connect to I tunes. Then on your computer you will see ITunes has detected a device in recovery mode. Then restore and your good to go.

Use Find My iPhone

If you enabled Find My iPhone, you can use it to erase your device.

  1. Go to icloud.com/#find to see if you enabled Find My iPhone.
  2. Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
  3. Select your device and click "Erase [device]" to erase your device and its passcode.
  4. Use the Setup Assistant on your device to restore the most recent backup of your device.

Use recovery mode

Follow these steps if you never synced your device with iTunes, if you don't have Find My iPhone set up, or if you can't get to your own computer. You'll need to put your device in recovery mode, which will erase the device and its passcode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.

  1. Disconnect all cables from your device.
  2. Turn off your device.
  3. Press and hold the Home button. While holding the Home button, connect your device to iTunes. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on.
  4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
  5. iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
  6. Click OK, then restore the device.

I would have to say that you have some unusual issues going on there with errors on both the computer and in iTunes. I do not see the iTunes error 7, but this error 4005 is identified and this support document provides troubleshooting. iOS: Restore errors 4005, 4013, and 4014

You might want to check out the Microsoft website for any mention of the Windows error that you reported.

Well not that unusual it would appear 😉 38637 views and this has been going on for some time.

Complete uninstalls / re-installs of ALL Apple software and iPhone restores are very time consuming.

Also lost an audio book along the way. In hand, however more time wasted. (not allowed to re-download like audible, WHY?)

Download past purchases

IMHO - Apple rely too heavily on iTunes for basic tasks, integration is great to a point.

The thought of being left with a a paper weight is not a comforting one. Given the amount of traveling I do

I am thinking of switching, Not all countries are Apple friendly and therefore it's difficult to remedy problems when a timely fix is needed.

...and when left with "You must turn off "Find My Phone" to restore, at this stage my iPhone was a brick!

Lots of answers out there for the above but I would like to see fewer problems leading to less support. Yesterdays mess was a reality check for me.

Been using Apple for some time and obviously there have been problems along the way, it's expected but this is a bit much.

FOR HELP READ THIS

OK. I think we have found a solution to the "find my iPhone lockout" when trying to restore (at least for iPhone 4s - should apply to all iDevices with this issue).

Start device in DFU mode and go through the process once.

when itunes downloads ipsw where does it go

http://goo.gl/eKnn3d

BUT keep your eye on the IPSW file downloading via iTunes and locate it first. Then see steps below:

Download the iOS8 via iTunes via first attempt at restore. Locate the actual IPSW file in user/Library/iTunes/iPhone (you need to hold down ALT while clicking "Go" in Apple menu - select library and navigate to this location)

Copy it to the desktop as soon as it has finished uploading.

Then start iPhone in recovery mode (as per Apple instructions)

Click the restore button but hold down ALT key and select the desktop version you just copied.

This way the extraction takes seconds and not an hour so it doesn't overtake the time out.

This has now sorted our frustration in a few minutes after several hours of trying the suggested way!

Hope this helps.

If you remember the Apple/iCloud ID, you can go to: FORGOT APPLE ID and reset the password. If you don't remember the answers to the Security Questions, you can contact Apple Support to get a reset link:

ACCOUNT SECURITY SUPPORT

You can also take the receipt from the original purchase (meaning from an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Reseller) into an Apple Store, and if you have proof of identity, they may be able to remove the lock for you.

Best of luck,
