Major Problem with Keyboard Shortcuts in iOS 7

There's a significant issue with keyboard "Shortcuts" after upgrading to iOS 7. If you try to access the shortcuts (Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts), it may not let you and may instead "kill" the Settings app and return you to your home screen (it may let you in at first, but will kick you out after about 30 seconds). I have done a lot of testing and have been on with Apple for about 3 hours (the guy was great, even though we weren't able to fix it yet).

We determined that you may experience this problem if:

1. You are running iOS 7 and either (a) upgraded from iOS 6 to iOS 7, or (b) have restored from a device that either ran iOS 6 or was upgraded to iOS 7

AND

2. if you have turned "On" the option under iCloud to sync "Documents and Data"

The Apple rep was ultimately able to replicate the issue and it was through the testing that we reached the above conclusions. You may be able to go into Shortcuts at first (by tapping the Shortcut button), but after a few minutes it may kick you out and send you to the Home screen. If that happens, you won't be able to get back into the shortcuts. Post here if you experience this issue, or if you have any additional info. Apple is actively looking into it and hopefully we'll get a fix soon.

Thanks for the quick around!

I tried to follow your step by step manual but there in "iDeviceName/HomeDomain/Library/Keyboard" I found like 4 or 5 files named "CloudUserDictironnary.sqlite" along the subfolders but only 2 of them had a size between 2MB and 3.5MB. I didn't do anything really.

However, here an update on my side...

My shortcuts are back!!!! .

- I deleted my Icloud account from the Ipad (not only setup on my iphone 5)

- I enabled "documents and data" into icloud configuration (settings/icloud)

- however when I go to my shortcuts (settings/general/keyboard), at the first time I see no shortcut but right after 20 seconds they appear

- I was able to edit/add my shortcuts but iphone becomes unresponsive for 20 seconds after tap on save button

- finally, i can use my shortcuts while writing for example when typing on whatsapp

Allezxandre

Despite what i mentioned above, should I try to delete the "CloudUserDictironnary.sqlite"?

if so, please let me know how to proceed? there are some question I have since I found more than 1 files named ""CloudUserDictironnary.sqlite""

thanks in advance!

Finally i had to re-create shortcuts from scratch, it seems to be working so far... i will continue testing and see how it behaves and I will let you know.

My major concern is prevent my iphone get hot and battery is not drained. Now it is a bit hot (kind of warm) but i am charging it.... once battery is charged I will see for the temperature

thanks again for your support!

I don't think you should recreate your shortcuts, they have to disappear on the boot, that's the goal of the procedure, but iCloud will get them back on again.

Concerning your hot iPhone, that's not really related, but mine was getting really hot as well because I had Gmail in Push in the native Mail App, but Gmail dropped support for push in Mail App, so it was constantly fetching, making it hot. Have you set up Gmail to be push? If you don't know you probably don't as it is an uncommon procedure.

Anyway, tell me if the fix worked for you(once you tried everything (don't worry, you still have a backup 😉))

I'm also suffering the same problem where my Keyboard shortcuts are not synced across my three platforms I'm using the same iCloud account on. (Macbook Pro 10.9, iPad Mini 7.0.4 and iPhone 5s 7.0.4).

The shortcuts disappear on my iPhone 5S and sometimes on the iPad too. The iPhone gets really hot and battery life is depleted really fast. I see the same symptoms you guys describe in this thread.

Could you please elaborate on: "There also was a solution to this problem, deleting some files in the iCloud with your Mac, but this wasn't easy and couldn't be done when you don't have a Mac. "

Do you have that procedure somewhere? I'd like to try it. It would be great if we could purge the database which contains the keyboard shortcuts everywhere (in iCloud itself and on the iOS devices and on the macbook pro) in order to start with a fresh clean and empty database. That might be a step in the right direction?

I'm so frustrated by all of this...

Bad news!!!

as I mentioned... I was testing the behaviour of my Iphone after the change I made per my previos post and here the outcomes:

1. asI said, at the beginning after changes I made based on you manual the shortcuts appeared and it did seem to be working. BUT after an hour (+/-) the shourt disapeared again and the Iphone started to get hot.

2. I disabled icloud (documents and data) and shotcuts didnt appear.. I had to reboot my iphone and finally my shortcuts did appear again..... now icloud sync is turned off...... I think it will not be able to be turned on again......

what can I do??? thoughts?

in the other hand:

do you know where Apple is posting the progress on this issue fixing?

this is really annoying

Nov 30, 2013 11:18 AM in response to Allezxandre

ok, i will do it again and I will let you know once I finish ... but now I have a question

before while restoring icloud sync (documents and docs) should be enabled?

I will try your fix once again.. with icloud sync enables (documents and data) .. and ok... i will wait for the shortcuts appear... i hope it is no longer thatn 1 hour 🙂

no... i didnt see any shortcut double...

thank you again!

Dec 1, 2013 3:18 PM in response to JCEspejoG

ok, I already did it!

I enabled icloud sync (documents and data), took a backup

Executed the fix according to your manual (this time I only found 4 file to delete and all of them were 80 KB size more or less)

reboot my iphone 5 since it was getting hot

wait for 2 hour and reboot again and finally the shortcuts came back (shortcut were not available before this reboot)

after 2.5 hours I rebooted my iphone and the shortcuts disappeared once again...

I rebooted again and the shurtcuts came back....

... I am still testing... i will let you know about the issue related to battery life and battery getting drained

i see no issue so far, however my concern now is shutcuts are going out / coming back ....

again, i am still waiting....

Allezxandre

please let me know what your thought are....

and also I really thank you for you help on this...

Cool. Your description corresponds to what is expected. My shortcuts also disappeared sometimes the day I applied the "fix", but nothing serious, as I could still use them in Messages app for example. I think it is repaired for good now,.

But your iPhone getting hot is strange. Mine too does sometimes, but it's because I use a lot of resources like when I'm playing a game. Have you told Apple about it ?

Here an update...

after 5 hours, my shortcuts still available

I rebooted again the iphone jsut to double check the fix is fine.... and yes.. it is still working yet...

the iphone is no longer getting hot,....

about the "getting hot" issue....

you right it gets hot when you use an application with high CPU comsumption like games.... In my case Real racing 3.

however the issue i reported was related to icloud sync.. since shortcuts dissapeared when i was on setting / keyboards looking for my shortcuts i was noticing the iphone was getting hot or after enable the icloud sync..... i seemed that iphone was trying update the shortcuts again and again and it was getting hot the device

now the issue seems to be corrected 🙂

I will provide an update tomorrow confirming the result...... and THANK-YOU my friend... you save my life....

now I cannot live without my iphone.... 🙂)
how to

byt the way I have another questions... like how to release space I notices I have 1.4 GB of "other files" seems to be tempory / unused files for example using the application you provided I saw files related to foursquare but it was already deleted from my Iphone....

is there another thread I should use? or can I ask you via this thread?

thank you!!

Dec 1, 2013 10:58 PM in response to JCEspejoG

Nice to know I helped ;)

I don't think Foursquare is taking a lot of your "others" space. In my case, I also happened to have big "other" space taken, and it was the attachements to iMessage that took over 1.5 Gb. I describe how I deleted it in the fix if you need, however I really don't know what else could take that much space. Maybe you use iMovie/Pages or others a lot ? The save files are sometimes big.
