iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

Got a new iphone 5 16 GB 3 days back in India. Been rattling from day 1. Its the lose lock key on the top. Keep a finer on it to stabilise it and the rattle goes away. Hope apple in India can resolve the issue ie either fix it or replace it. Dont know though, what the apple replacement policy is in India though !!

Just picked up my iPhone 5s in gold ......... brought it home, got everything together on it went to push the off button on top of the phone and it felt a little shaky! I hate thinking something so expesnive is not well made..... and to think i could be using it one day and the next it can't even hold up! hmmmmm i want to go to at&t to see about replacing it but to tell ya the truth i don't expect to find a perfect iPhone after reading these posts. i did blow on it and it helped it for a bit but it came back so ... not too sure whats up with the phones BUT i wanna figure out if this is normal? 🙂 thanks if anyone has any information!

I have this issue as well. Got the phone last week. Called Apple Care here in Sweden but the boys I spoked with had either no info about this, heard this "for the first time" (yeah "sure") or claiming that they didn't had education in this matter because the problem is so new to them. I red somewhere that iPhone 5 had same thing, and I looked at my dad's 4S and no rattle. It was really solid in whole one piece.

So my hypothetical guess is that this aluminum chassis just IS like this. It is designed like that. I can probably find this on every 5 and 5S no matter if I search and unbox ALL freakin' 5's and 5S' in China at Foxconn on spot. It is a slightly irritating yes, but I doubt that anyone has or will have a 5 or 5S that doesn't rattle. And I really doubt that Apple will ever fix this, because they must then redesign entire phone. Nexus 5, for example, has a home-button that rattles, LG G2 cracks where the buttons are at the back, every Samsung-phone cracks etc. However, phones like HTC One and Sony Xperia Z1 doesn't give any weird sound at all. So my question is Apple, how can HTC and Sony build quality-phones who are a lot cheaper but You can't?

So finally we now all know that neither 5 nor 5S are any premium-phones. Except with 5C who has another material and don't give a sound at all. So it's up to You, change this jingle-bell and get 5C, or keep the jingle-bell and shake it like Santa. ;-)

I agree with you, but I can guarantee that a recall is impossible. If a car manufacturer does not recall faulty cars, people die. Unfortunately/fortunately, people do not die on loose button.....

The other only option left is for Apple to admit there is a faulty top button that rattles, recall it and have everyone go and exchange their device. Similiar to a car manufacturer's recall system. If Apple trully cares they will announce a recall or a statement regarding the loose rattling button.

Yup. Happened just as expected

Took the iPhone 5 to the apple service centre in Pune, India

The guys there had a look at the phone. Apparently opened it up and said that there's nothing loose there and the rattle is a common occurrence and nothing needs to be done

Was not happy at all esp when the previous phones had a more solid build. The new generation phones are too light weight and don't seem that well built at all

Took the phone to my local repair shop (he's fixed the non responsive home button the iPhone 4 in the past for me)

He has a look. Returned the phone after a couple of hours and viola the rattle is gone now

Had to replace some loose component etc

So Apple, lesson for you !!

Something was loose and wrong. Don't deny it !!

Can be fixed. Had mine fixed !!

Many screen protectors require users to spray their liquid onto the screen first before applying the screen protector, such as ZAGG. I never heard these types of screen protectors void the warranty.

Despite the good intentions of other users on this forum to help with this issue, I would never spray a foreign substance on my iPhone. I wouldn't recommend it. Got my iphone 5s last week and noticed the power button rattled. Had to check to see if anyone else is having the same issue and wow seems like apple goofed ! I'm afraid of getting an exchange as I'm reading others doing so and having issues with the other buttons.

Well, I finally took mine in to get replaced after my "loose" button stopped working. New model still has the rattle, but feels slightly tighter. Rattle still present when recording video. I didn't bother playing the multiple swap game with the genius bar guy, as he replaced it as the the loose rattle developed into a sleep button that did not work at all and I was in a time crunch and just needed my phone to work.

I did tell him that this has been an ongoing issue for me, and he claims to have never heard about the issue, and I said, well check the apple forums, as there are a ton of people having the same issue as me, one of the most viewed threads here, and I'm sure on Macrumors.

Day to day use fine, sleep button working ok for now, and the rattle isn't as bad -- BUT IT IS STILL BAD -- and it's still there and still present when recording video. I'm not going to get it swapped until I know the issue has been fixed. I've logged an official complaint to Apple, and on top of that, my replacement has the dreaded "yellow tint" that so many complain about and, according to people on here, will go away as it is glue. I guess I will try again after the launch craze dies down, but this is simply not acceptable, period.

Apple needs to acknowledge the issue, and fix it.

Or, if they don't want to deal with customers who expect their products to be the best in class and work and act properly, change expectations for consumers. I dropped almost a grand on this phone unlocked straight from Apple, and when looking at the cost to build this, their margins are huge. My expectations are best in class. That's why I have continued to buy Apple all these years.

BTW -- replacement is Week 38, Foxcon, China ... not that it really matters, it seems, as it looks like this is a widespread issue.

i bought i phone 5s the same day when i set up the fone.....nd got a call the fone was ratteling like any thing is loose out there inside the fone.......and when i tapped the fone the sound was really comming from the camera side......just wanna confirm what would be the prob...even my lock button is also loose....guys help me out......

My rattle has now stopped completely the phone is silent, I think in time they may just gunge up and become quiet. my 4s had rattly volume buttons, yes the power button being loose is bad, and the vibrate button should not rattle but these are mass made in the millions, plastic is more forgiving, in fact the 5C feels better made than the 5S. I really wish they had made the 5S out of plastic. it just feels better in the hand, and no rattles from new.

I've the same issues like you guys. I bought my iPhone 5s 64GB in Gold yesterday here in Luxembourg. The sleep/wake button and also the volume buttons rattles a lot.
It's really annoying without a case. But I bought also a case yesterday, the Apple Case in Black. It reduces the rattle but it's still there when I shake my iPhone, also when I take movies with it, when I make lot of movements...

I hope Apple will fix it, because I paid 525€ (715$) with a contract, this are 900€ (1222$) without contract. So for this expensive phone, I want a premium phone without issues.

I've had 3 silver I've took it back twice people say wait until 2014 people say that there will be a new batch just say when u take it in I've replaced it X amount of times I've waited to take it back this long to see if they have fixed it and bring out a new batch and explain how u've coped with it and how annoying it Is hope this helped I'm very angry with this I saved up and bought this instead of PS4 u know
