iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

I have the means to put Optimus - Telecomunicações S.A. on court and the technical knowledge to fundament that the Rattling noise is not a feature, but a fault.

I will spend more money, but It will return to me, all of it, and with interests

@Groovenitin I faced the same situation here in India with a Gold as well as Space Gray 5s. No refund policies. No official Apple Stores, only shady resellers like Reliance iStore. Besides, we have a terrible supply of the 5s, which makes it real hard to open several boxes to check for a loose power button before buying.

But there's something worth noting I discovered recently. The Croma store in Mumbai had a Silver White demo phone WITHOUT the rattling power button issue. It even felt quite firm. Could it be possible that Apple is displaying perfect demo pieces but ignoring the boxed phones being sold? Or does every single 5s develop the rattle over time?

If you're willing, we could collectively voice our grievances across many Indian tech-blogs to be heard and perhaps approach key Apple shops/service centers to address the issue directly. Eventually, this fight has to get global if everyone takes regional initiatives!

I'm in, I already complained the the BBB so if more of us complain there , something may get done about it? Pretty sorry when the 10 dollar GO-PHONE gets better signal and doesn't sons like a baby rattle over this 900 dollar US iphone! I got 4 bars with the go-phone and 1 bar with this iPhone and can't walk more than 2 feet away from handset when using my Bluetooth , so you guys make sure you check out your signals too cause not only does mine rattle it has crap service ex specially when you tap on the bottom you can watch the bars disappear.

Shame on you apple! You got beet by a 'pay as you go', go-phone!

Really we need someone from apple to justify this rattling and I would really like to know how can a rattle In a 1000$ phone considered to be normal and feature of the device..common apple give us an answer to this !!

Apple will never come to public to talk about this kind of problem. To much defect units

What some of you can do p, that really sends a strong message to them, is to ask for another phone or for the money.

That way the phone is returned and they open a RMA process.

Well guys what to say..I have had 2 iPhone 5s replaced both worst than the other..the phone that has been given to me now rattles from inside and the power button rattles as well..just spoke to an AppleCare senior who told me that the phones replaced are the ones which are sent back from the reseller to apple and In turn apple uses these phones for replacements..that means apple has been replacing us with refurbished iPhone 5s already..there you go confirmed by the apple senior herself..the phone replaced to me day before is a phone manufactured in week 42 not the ones manufactured in December..so this is a confirmation that when apple replaces an iPhone it is a refurbished piece..no 2nd doubts about it..all I can say is for the ones who say that the camera lens rattling inside is due to the auto focus please get your facts straight..90% of the iPhone 5s they rattle only because of the power button..we need a solution to this.

Hey Grooven, what you have said is the totally right, apple sell refurbished phones, my friend has a phone store in new york, and all his iphone 5s they are awesome, because when he face a problem with any, he get it back to apple store and replace it with good one, cause apple not ready to lose dealers, and in this way apple store has no other way except selling this phone, they will not give it for people in africa for free. well, i have changed 4 iphone 5s in apple and all same problem, once i gone to check small phone stores, all of them their iphone 5s dont rattle at all.

and by the way, the camera lens, it doest affect at all, my friend has iphone 5 and his camera lens rattle, he recorded video and no sound at all, it's so normal, its so calm voice, that doesnt bother at all. it depend on the person, it doesnt bother me, it bothered me only the power button, cause when you shake the phone, touch the power button, get a vibarte, it annoy so much.

People just stop buying phone from apple, go to mini small phone stores, there you will find a good phones.

Camera lens do rattle, all Iphones from 3GS onwards from memory have done that, in fact a few other Android handsets have optics rattle as its a moving part in the phone. Yes the Power button does rattle, but after time mine stopped, I'm not fixated on it my phone woks very well. I have Apple care, I have reported it thats all I can do.

I have been in Apple stores and all phones have this rattle, the button was changed from the 5 version and something seems to have gone awry, but I would rather have a button that rattled than one that didn't work tbh. Apple replace phones out of the 14/30 day period with refurbished units they do not come in retail packaging and its only the phone you are given, no charger or lead comes with the unit, you keep them from the original phone.

The refurbished unit comes in a small flat box, this is how the process works, if they came in brand new retail boxes with charger and lead they are new phones, and you may not get the latest week number simply because Apple have stock used for replacement which goes back week at a time in stock I imagine. All my replacemenst were new and I could see the shipment details from China during the process. If your phone goes faulty within its warranty Apple replace it with a refurbished unit, you cannot tell its refurbished, its a quick turn around as the phones cant always be fixed in store. You walk away with a refurbished unit. This is the same for many other manufacturers that actually use refurbished parts to, Sony being one. Please stop spreading FUD in the forums, its not helping anyone.

Also only buy an iPhone from a certified reseller, or an Apple store, if you find an iPhone in a non certified store you wont get the backup from Apple and the phone is probably a dubious grey import. Buy at your own risk but dont go crying here when you cant get service on it if it goes wrong.

I Dont agree with you. I dont know what u have had, but my former 3GS, 4S, 4 from my relatives doesnt rattle, neither the camera nor the button. So STOP saying anyhing you dint know.

@Groovenitin This is quite true. If you receive your replacements in packaging other than the official iPhone box, they are refurbished phones. I've had the same experience with my old iPhone 5 where the replacements were far badly scuffed than the original. Hope we don't have to deal with Rattlegate AND Scuffgate together this time!

I received my second iPhone 5s on Thursday. My Volume Buttons are fine but the Power Buttons still rattles. So I put a piece of paper into the space between the button and the iPhone itself, then I put it into the Apple Leather Case. The rattling of the button stops, but another rattling noise is still there and this comes definitely from the camera. I'm not joking, it comes from the camera. When I shake it I hear a little noise. But when I put my iPhone on a desk I hear a loud rattling noise and this comes from the camera.
I chated with Apple in their Support Chat and the guy said that this is normal, he has the same experience on his iPhone 5. He said that this comes from the auto-focus assembly inside the camera. The sounds that we are hearing are normal for the construction of the iPhone 5, 5c, 5s and the iPod touch 5th generation. He also said that the good news are that they don't indicate an issue with the iPhone 5s...
He said that he found it strange when he first noticed it, as well. He did a bit of research and as it turns out, the unibody construction of the iPhone 5 and 5s makes the way that the parts fit together a bit different than phones of other manufactures. For instance, (even brushed Aluminum), is going to reverberate the sound from the internals of the phone a lot more loudly than plastic will!

That's waht he said!And he is right. I checked out my iPod touch 5th generatin, this makes a little rattling noise but I don't hear it a lot, this don't bother me. Yesterday I checked out some iPhone 5 at a Authorised Apple Service Provider (the only Apple Stores here in Luxembourg) and they all had this rattling noise which come from the camera, but they hat a solid power button... Today I checked the camera of the new iPhone 5c in blue at a mobile provider, and guess what, it ralltes to and it comes from the camera.

It bothers me when I put my iPhone on the desk, I don't know if I should change it next year under warranty or not? But almost all the iPhones have this rattling noise which comes from the camera... Or does somebody has a iPhone 5s without a rattling camera?

The danger of receiving a refurbished iPhone is why you need to report the matter to the retailer (e.g. Apple) in the first 14 days, preferably with a case reference. Then you can go back to the retailer later and demand a refund or a like-for-like brand new replacement. It can make it more complicated if you bought your iPhone from a retailer other than Apple; it is always simpler if the retailer and manufacturer are the same party, because in most jurisdictions you have full statutory rights againgst the retailer but only limited contractual rights against the manufacturer. It would be unreasonable of Apple (or another retailer) to replace an iPhone which was brand new when the defect was discovered with one that is not brand new or manufacturered from used parts. It is not the consumer's fault that Apple takes several months to produce a defect-free replacement, and so the consumer should not have to suffer an inferior replacement as a result of Apple's delay.

Of course, the exact procedure and statutory rights depend on the jurisdiction in which you bought your iPhone. Fortunately I bought mine from Apple in the United Kingdom which has even stronger consumer protection legislation than the United States.

Hello everyone. I live in Paris. I just received an iPhone 5S (white and gold - 64Go) that has a power button that rattles. My previous iPhone 4 (black - 32Go) did not rattle at all (I had it for nearly 2 years). The rattle seems to come only from the power button as when you hold it down, you do not hear any other noise as you shake ot tap the phone. I believe we are facing a clear product quality problem.Customer satisfaction and product quality should be on top of Apple's agenda, just like Steve always wanted. Apple should do something about this, given the company's mission statement and the impressive profit they make from their sales: replacing the new defective phones with NEW flawless ones would be a good start. Meanwhile, we could also use our iPhones as maracas to play latin american music...!?

Try searching for camera rattle. If you tap the phone the cameras internal lens system rattles, not the outer one because it moves internally to auto focus. Every time a new iPhone comes out the same old 'camera rattle' questions crops up. I suggest you do some research.
