iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

Today I had scheduled a Genius Bar appointment for my loose rattling power button. I can hear it rattle when I record video and move around, the video even records the sound and it interferes with the video. It is also bothersome, in general, to have a rattling noise on my phone. The "genius" had me unlock the phone (since I have a passcode/fingerprint I.D) and he took it to the back to take a look at it, came back and said there's nothing wrong and that it's the "vibrating motor." Yeah, sure. I place my finger on the power button and move my phone and it has 0 rattling, when I let go it rattles like a maraca. I then asked him if he could open it and try and fix it for me, and he told me that he had just opened it and everything checked out fine. Another lie, he gave me my phone back unlocked and into my settings. If he opened it it would have been turned off, and on again which would request my passcode which he doesn't have. My previous iPhone 3/4S/5 has never done this and I see it as a simple fix if they were to really open it. I have fully purchased a new iPhone every year for the past 3 years and when I encounter a problem I'm lied to and told there is nothing I can do about it. I'll be scheduling another appointment soon in hopes I get a different employee that will actually help me.

What I want to know is, is there a fix to this?
When I take videos it captures the rattling noises ruining the video.

Do you think that apple doesn't know about each thing in iphone? what we write here, apple never care about it, they say that this rattle button is normal in iphone 5s, so there is no use to argue and complain, 2 choices, you accept it or you give it back.

apple now working on iphone 6 and they don't have time to fix this rattle thing, as i told you they consider it normal thing, APPLE CARE will never change it because of this ****, they said the rattle is normal thing in the power button.. maybe for us, this is not normal, but for them it is Normal.

So just don't fight for nothing, people fought for their iphone 3gs, 4, 4s, 5 and nothing happen.

i have my 3gs the power button there also rattle, i use it as ipod, apple never fixed it and be sure they will never fix it on iphone 5s, cause i repeat for last time. APPLE SAYS THE POWER BUTTON IS FINE IN ALL IPHONE 5S, they will change it only if the power button doesn't work.

So leave it or live with it. no other choice.

We have seen a few like this, once again it wont do any good unless you tell Apple via feedback. If you think they dont care as I said then these posts are pointless. So either do something of stop moaning, take it back and get another handset from another manufacturer, thats the best thing to do if you are unhappy. At this point i'm going to enjoy my iPhone, thankfully its stopped rattling, I understand the dissapointment, but take it back its faulty and if they all are, thats your only choice. So enjoy your phone and put up with it or get another make. Harsh but thats the options. Happy holidays to one and all.

Happy holidays, friend!

I have heard from different users on other forums that buying some cases does stop rattling. Most likely these are tight cases and all those users happen to be using the original Apple iPhone 5(S) case. The wake/sleep-button rattle has been around for a long time. Even the 4/4S has/had this issue and I have my friend's iPhone to confirm this. Most likely the issue lies with the click mechanism under the button which is not a perfect fit in most iphones. Some iphones have this issue and some don't. One issue that all iPhones have are the rattle of the camera lens(Which only stops rattling when during usage as it is powered by an electro magnet which holds it in position!) Bringing back your iphone for a new one won't make you lucky as you can a replacement model which is usually prepared beforehand of the models they already had. The chance that you a replacement that DOES NOT rattle is rather small at this moment. If you want to get rid of the rattling, find a case that is tight around the power button and do share your finding. Of course the smartest thing to do is to experiment before buying.

Happy holidays 😀 I got an iPhone 5s for christmas, but sadly, I also have this power button issue... Rattling like a snake when shaking it, and it will affect video/voice recording. I'm going to the apple store as soon as possible, because this is such a irritating problem for me.. It shouldn't rattle, it just shouldn't. I hope they sort this out.

Bought 3 5s's for my daughters for Christmas.

They all make the rattling noise.

They previously had the 4 and 4s which didn't rattle.

From the info I've read exchanging the 5s's won't guarantee a fix.

I'm within the 14 day purchase window and if it were my phone I'd get a refund.

Going to let them decide what they want to do with them.

I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PROBLEM, IT SHOULDN'T EXIST!

Man, just take it easy and let me explain you, millions of people have this problem, i ordered iphone 5s direct from apple and 4 times i changed it and always same problem, in the end i made refund and i traveled with the money, if the rattle not so noisy, keep it, espacially they are girls, they will never treat phone as bottle of champagne, you will hear the rattle only when you shake it hard near to the ear, and no one ever take video while shaking phone like champagne, i had iphone 3gs i bought it 4 years ago, i noticed the rattle only when i read this discusion, i held it 4 years and never ever noticed the power button rattle, i know not all the iphone 5s have the problem, but trust me you will turn all around and it's gonna be hard to find, i found not rattle iphone but i did not buy, i just lost the money and plan to buy it next month, but all the same man, i talked to the manager of apple store, and he showed me his iphone same thing, he said it's not problem, why you think it is problem, i told him because when you take video and shake it you will hear bad noise, he said up to u, i never did this, and me too i never did this with my 3gs my 4s and my 5 i never shake phone like idiot when i take video. in the end if we will argue all the time, we will never enjoy this iphone 5s, and to let you sure, there is no fix for this rattle power, cause it was made like this, i talked to the manager of apple care. he said it is like this, all people have it.

so people all up to you, just refund and use samsung or keep it and enjoy it and take care of it cause it does not cost 10$.
