iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

Today I had scheduled a Genius Bar appointment for my loose rattling power button. I can hear it rattle when I record video and move around, the video even records the sound and it interferes with the video. It is also bothersome, in general, to have a rattling noise on my phone. The "genius" had me unlock the phone (since I have a passcode/fingerprint I.D) and he took it to the back to take a look at it, came back and said there's nothing wrong and that it's the "vibrating motor." Yeah, sure. I place my finger on the power button and move my phone and it has 0 rattling, when I let go it rattles like a maraca. I then asked him if he could open it and try and fix it for me, and he told me that he had just opened it and everything checked out fine. Another lie, he gave me my phone back unlocked and into my settings. If he opened it it would have been turned off, and on again which would request my passcode which he doesn't have. My previous iPhone 3/4S/5 has never done this and I see it as a simple fix if they were to really open it. I have fully purchased a new iPhone every year for the past 3 years and when I encounter a problem I'm lied to and told there is nothing I can do about it. I'll be scheduling another appointment soon in hopes I get a different employee that will actually help me.

What I want to know is, is there a fix to this?
When I take videos it captures the rattling noises ruining the video.

Let's get this straight...it isn't going to make any difference replacing your iPhone 5s. They all rattle! Unless Apple fixes the manufacturing flaw at its Chinese factories, there's little we can do.

For now, we can monitor the latest January batch of 5s's to see if the rattle persists. So far, the production details posted in this thread are uptil December.

Anybody with a 5s manufactured in January? Where do we stand with this?

I took mine to the Apple store for a camera issue, while I was there I brought the rattle up to the genius and told him the rattle was so loud you can hear it in the videos I take, the genius told me all the 5s's do it and to hold the button while I take video so it can't be heard. Basically, I have to accept that my videos will have this rattling (loud even) noise in them, or hold the button no matter which way I hold the camera to take video. It's gawd awful. OH and when I got it back from repair, they scratched the back of my phone. I was frustrated and livid, I just left.

I too have the loose power button on my gold iPhone 16gb that I've just bought, the camera lens is scratched on the inside but doesn't cause a problem when taking pictures. Judging by the number of people who have had this problem it's seems the majority haven't been able to get a good one. I don't want to risk a repair or keep swapping it, I'm really pleased with the phone itself. It's a little small after using a Z Ultra for the last three months but I think I'll get used to it. I may just contact AppleCare.

Figured I would throw my 2 cents into the large HAT here that Apple has created for all of us! I purchased my phone from an ATT retailer. No rattle. However Microphone went out this week. Took it to the Apple Store, replacement went smooth. Now I was given a new phone that has a very annoying rattle of the power/sleep button. Took it back, store opened 5 others, same rattle on all of them. Store offered nothing to resolve. Called Apple Care, they admitted this would be annoying as well to them. They offered replacement via mail & to contact the stores Manager for a resolution. Hopefully this will be resolvable and Apple will offer something to everyone that has to "live" with this very annoying problem with every phone call they make!!

My 5S's lock button was rattling straight out of the box, in addition then the screen began to come loose and 'click' all down the right hand side of the screen, very very annoying! At the same time the lock button began to 'ghost click', where it would press itself, even when it would just be sitting on my bedside locker!

It's been away for a week or so now with Applecare (as there are no Apple stores in the Republic of Ireland)...

To add insult, they do not even appear to have fixed the thing... I've checked the status of the repair and they "could not duplicate issue"...

To say I am beginning to lose my faith with Apple is an understatement...

I can not believe that Apple is not taking care of this. I am not going to buy a mobile phone for 699$ / 699€ to have this kind of problems. Two weeks ago I returned (money back) an iPhone 5S just for the rattling noise.

I have an iPhone 3GS, iPad 4, Macbook 13.3" and two or three iPods and never had this issues. My 4 years old IPhone 3GS does not rattle.

From Apple page:

"iPhone 5s is purposefully imagined. Meticulously considered. Precision crafted. It’s not just a product of what’s technologically possible. But what’s technologically useful. It’s not just what’s next. But what should be next."

I am sorry Apple, but this time I am not going to spend my money on your "best ever built" product.

Same problem here had the rattle straight out the box. Went to the Southampton, UK store and dealt with a particularly unpleasant manager down there who claimed he had never heard of this issue, and that the rattle noise was the shutter as it needed movement space as it "moved so quickly". After I told him my Samsung had a faster camera and didn't rattle, he told me to go back to Samsung!

I told him about the 30 pages of complaints on their website (this thread) to which he told me if I Googled UFO's I would find millions of results, and it doesn't make it true.

Terrible terrible customer service, and to say the ones which didn't rattle were probably the ones which had something wrong is beyond belief.

I really do hope Apple fix this problem and at the very least admit there is an issue. I don't understand how these have even gone into production with such an obvious fault.

Moral of the story for those with the same problem - Don't bother making the trip to the store if you have a rattling button, "it's meant to rattle"
