iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

Today I had scheduled a Genius Bar appointment for my loose rattling power button. I can hear it rattle when I record video and move around, the video even records the sound and it interferes with the video. It is also bothersome, in general, to have a rattling noise on my phone. The "genius" had me unlock the phone (since I have a passcode/fingerprint I.D) and he took it to the back to take a look at it, came back and said there's nothing wrong and that it's the "vibrating motor." Yeah, sure. I place my finger on the power button and move my phone and it has 0 rattling, when I let go it rattles like a maraca. I then asked him if he could open it and try and fix it for me, and he told me that he had just opened it and everything checked out fine. Another lie, he gave me my phone back unlocked and into my settings. If he opened it it would have been turned off, and on again which would request my passcode which he doesn't have. My previous iPhone 3/4S/5 has never done this and I see it as a simple fix if they were to really open it. I have fully purchased a new iPhone every year for the past 3 years and when I encounter a problem I'm lied to and told there is nothing I can do about it. I'll be scheduling another appointment soon in hopes I get a different employee that will actually help me.

What I want to know is, is there a fix to this?
When I take videos it captures the rattling noises ruining the video.

Looks like the issue is scattered accross all factories ... My brother got the same model as me, but different factory, production week, and his button is solid, no rattles ... Looks like non-rattling iphones seem to be in the minority, and I do not think people should accept this. On mine, it seems like the button is not working all the time, either. Sometimes when I push it, it will not register ... I will be getting is replaced, but it seems like the problem hasn't been fixed and I do not want to be stuck with the same issue on a new phone ... Does anybody who has gotten this phone -- was the replacement better?

I had a week 41 C3 unit that had a firm sleep button no rattle at all, unfortunately it had a yellow tint that really bugged me, got that replaced with a week 42 c3 unit with a perfect screen but a very lose sleep button with a horrible rattle that makes its into videos even with the apple leather case on. Its a lottery if it isn't one thing its another.

Few days ago I got a gold iPhone 5s as a present and noticed no rattling sound from the iPhone when I unpacked it. As I don't have a nano SIM card yet, I could not use my phone so I just put it in the box till I get my nano sim. Anyways, two days ago I just wanted to look at my iPhone so I picked it out of the box and guess what? I noticed some weird noises when I moved it around. Exactly what is described here in this thread!

It is DEFINITELY the lock/sleep button that is too loose. When I hold my 5s in my hand and shake it softly, it makes that noise. I tried it together with my iPhone 4 shaking them separately in separate hands, no rattling sounds at all from my 4. For crying out loud I dropped my 4 many times before and it looks a bit worn but at least there is no weird sounds coming from my 4.

I should try and make a video of me shaking the phones, maybe you guys can do it too? There are already vids on YT on this problem. This is really ridiculous. I didn't expect this from the 5s, and not from any phone to make rattling sounds like a babies toy when shaken softly or even sitting in a car.

Apple find a solution!!

Find this problem so anoying,

The problem has made a mockery of the brand, and anoys me no end, every video I make is filled with the stupid rattle, I made an example here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNAu626qYIQ

Hopeing Apple will sort this with replacement models for all of us affected..

Primary reason for buying the new 5s 64gb version was to video trackdays in the car.. but this problem really effects that.. wishing I had stuck with my 4s.

Mine is an iPhone 5S 32GB built in week 37 in C3.

The big problem for me is not when shooting video, but something much more basic. When I switch my iPhone 5S on to silent mode, I expect it to vibrate silently in my pocket like all my previous iPhones. However, the loose rattling power button causes it to make a very audible buzzing sound when it vibrates (e.g. with an incoming call), which can be embarrassing in a meeting or worse in an environment where silence is expected. I would say that the vibration of the loose power button is around three times the volume of the basic vibration function. Apple have to address this. Even if they say they're working on a fix, I'll be happy rather than their continued silence on a widespread manufacturing quality issue.

Fortunately I bought my iPhone 5S from Apple in the United Kingdom where Section 14(2B)(c) of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 requires it to be free of minor defects. Given that I reported this to Apple within days of purchase, I reserve my right to a repair or replacement (not one with reconditioned parts) under Section 48B. For those who purchased from a mobile network in conjunction with a service contract (where payment for the service wholly or partially covers the cost of the goods), the relevant legislation is Section 18(3)(c) and Section 11N of the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. In either case, Section 5 of the Limitation Act 1980 limits the right of redress to six years from the purchase date (five years in Scotland) but you need to get your complaint on record with Apple at an early stage (with a case reference), ideally within a month of purchase.

I agree. The iPhone 4 was one of the best devices I've owned when it comes to build quality. I dropped my iphone 4 countless times without any case on it and it never cracked or chipped. A few scuffs or scratches was all I ever got and never did it rattle. I had that iPhone for 2 years and still sold It for a decent price. The iPhone 5 I owned never rattled, although build quality wasn't as good as the iPhone 4. I say this because the iphone 5 would chip around the sides when I dropped it and the iPhone 4 never did.

I just left some feedback for the iphone on apple.com/feedback. I'd suggest we all leave the appropriate feedback regarding this issue on the iphone 5S. Apple needs to hear from the users what's going on so they can acknowledge this and provide a fix.
