iPhone 5s Power Button Loose/Rattling Noise

Today I had scheduled a Genius Bar appointment for my loose rattling power button. I can hear it rattle when I record video and move around, the video even records the sound and it interferes with the video. It is also bothersome, in general, to have a rattling noise on my phone. The "genius" had me unlock the phone (since I have a passcode/fingerprint I.D) and he took it to the back to take a look at it, came back and said there's nothing wrong and that it's the "vibrating motor." Yeah, sure. I place my finger on the power button and move my phone and it has 0 rattling, when I let go it rattles like a maraca. I then asked him if he could open it and try and fix it for me, and he told me that he had just opened it and everything checked out fine. Another lie, he gave me my phone back unlocked and into my settings. If he opened it it would have been turned off, and on again which would request my passcode which he doesn't have. My previous iPhone 3/4S/5 has never done this and I see it as a simple fix if they were to really open it. I have fully purchased a new iPhone every year for the past 3 years and when I encounter a problem I'm lied to and told there is nothing I can do about it. I'll be scheduling another appointment soon in hopes I get a different employee that will actually help me.

What I want to know is, is there a fix to this?
When I take videos it captures the rattling noises ruining the video.

I have the annoying rattling power button as we'll!! I have the 39week build from c3 china factory !!

Went to the apple store with a Genius Bar appointment and he refused to admit that my power button was loose after I kept telling him that, that was the rattling noise. He refused to admit it was and said it was the vibrator motor ??? And told me there was nothing I could do about it and said ok and walked away. I think his name was chase from Tacoma? Will go back soon to see if anything changed.

I've been told it's the lens, the motor and the accelerometer. All of which are wrong. Just look at the buttons and move them. If they are loose they make noise. Find a tight one they make less noise to no noise. Also hold the button and shake the phone. Again no noise.

It's really annoying to have the 'Genuises' tell you BS. None of those components will rattle when the phone is gently moved up and down. If they do they are loose inside the case and need to be replaced [heard about the loose batteries?].

Watch the promo video of how exact the manufacturing of these phones is. Since they make such claims they should stand behind the product and issue an alert to 'Genuises' to quit lying to customers about the cause of the sleep button rattle.

WHAT?! Did she really say it is normal behavior??? So they purposely engineer the iPhone 5s to rattle, engineer to hear the rattle when recording a video? BS.

I also send a feedback to apple and made an appointment with the "genius" bar on Tuesday. I will demand a solution, it is a frickin baby's toy!!

Like I said I also recorded of me just shaking the phone: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FfUKH0GjzB4#

Can you guys hear that? I was just shaking it! Ridiculous. Manufactured "perfectly" bs,

My power button of the 5s is also loose and rattles when shaken, but in all honesty when would you shake your iPhone like that when making a movie. It's not a realistic use case example really. In addition the case I'm using (a spigen neo hybrid: http://www.spigen.com/iphone-5-5s-case-neo-hybrid.html ) has a power button that rattles in its case too. So regardless of the iPhone's power button shaking the sound would still be there due to the case.

If there would be any realistic scenario where the sound could be heard whilst recording a video you could hold your finger on the power button during filming.

Don't get me wrong, I'd also rather have a non rattling power button, especially because my 4S didn't have this design, but still we might be making a too big deal out of this, no?

No, I don't think we are making a big deal out of it.

The video that I made is just an example to show that there is definitely something loose on/inside the 5s.There is another video where someone is recording in a car just holding it still and you can hear the rattle sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNAu626qYIQ . I think that is quite a realistic example of recording. In addition, like others users are also experiencing is that not only it rattles during videos and being shaken, but also in during phone calls, and while viberating when it goes off while it is laying on the table. Even picking it up from the table I can hear something is loose.

So even with a case there is this rattle sound, to me that truly sounds like a mistake that needs to be fixed by the company because even the customer cannot fix it by buying cases for it. And if we need to hold the power button during filiming, then Apple should not promote that the 5s is manufactured to the utmost perfection and is the most refined iphone to date, which is the selling point of the 5s and got me truly interested in it.

Apple needs to see that this not the customers' mistake but theirs and need to take responsibility for it. 5s users pay a premium price for the iphone and expect a phone without any faults and loose parts. Also if they say it is meant to be loose, then they should clearly state that and not fool customers that expect a phone that does not make any rattle sound. Which is not going to happen, therefore I Apple needs to take responsibility for it.

So again, no I don't we are making a big deal out of it.

Ok so I'm following up and made another appointment again to the genius people at the apple store. This lady actually noticed the wiggly and annoying rattling power button. She said she could swap it out with a new one wich she did but mentioned it might have the same problem. And guess what? It has the same annoying rattle!! I guess we have to live with it for now.... **** apple shouldn't have rushed the production proccess to rush them out the doors. Oh we'll

I just wanted to add that this problem is coming from Apple's manufacturer. It could be that the new redesign of the power button is causing the rattle. Apple probably tweaked it a bit to prevent the power button from giving out so quick. The reason I mention this is because the last production of the previous iPhone 5 came with loose power buttons exactly as the new iPhone 5S. I know several users who purchased brand new iPhone 5 devices before the 5S released and they all have the same rattle like my 5S. I am just as upset about this issue as everybody else because my iPhone 5 which I purchased on release date had no rattles and it never rattled during the whole year I had it.

As previous users mentioned, Apple will not acknowledge this issue unless certain functions of the phone don't work. A loose power button doesn't fall within the category of defective products for Apple. Some Apple stores have replaced some users iPhones out of courtesy. Other Apple stores say that this rattle is normal, like it was in my case. Of course it's not normal for us because our previous iPhones didn't have this issue.

I'd say, don't bother with trying to get yours replaced for this issue now because you'll probably get another one with the same problem. We have to wait until this issue is actually fixed at Apple's manufacturer and then we can probably get a rattle free iPhone.

It's also noteworthy to mention that Jonathan Ive said that every component of the 5S had been considered to make sure that it actually enhances the user's experience. The iPhone 5S with a loose power button Does Not enhance the user's experience. There is nothing remarkable about an iPhone with a loose power button.

ATTN: Apple

Fix this issue and demonstrate that care and consideration that you claim you have. Stop ignoring the feedback of all the individuals that still believe in you. Without us(the customers) you wouldn't be where you are today. Customer service is everything in this type of business and you should never ignore unsatisfied customers.

I returned my rattling iphone 5s today through a convoluted refund and new purchase transaction in London in Rwgents Street. The sales guy admitted this is an issue that is affecting a lot of people. He wouldn't officially admit it's a problem though he sympathised. He said its on his phone also and is on all phones, and recommended a case to stop the rattle (which is a huge cop out). So I got a new 5s today and low and behold it has the same rattling issue, which I knew about in the store , but I I took it out of exasperation. This was wasted about 5 hours of my time, with re sync ups etc.

I phoned apple customer care this morning and seem to have got through to a US call center. The guy was formal and refs out a statement from apple saying that the camera lens and on off button move etc and that this is part of the manufacturing technique bla bla bla. He claimed he hadn't heard about this issue before, which I doubt.

Some store managers will pretend with a straight face that it's not an issue and that it's designed like that. I also went to Covent Garden store today to double check and spoke with two apple guys together, one the manager of the store. When they heard my rattle complaint there was a nervousness of recognition in their eyes although they would not admit to it's being a problem.

So for now I give up but in my mind this is a nasty tactic from apple execs to stifle debate and complaints and has permanently damaged their reputation.

I look forward to the rise of a superior competitor which I will gladly flock to and convince all my friends and corporate buyers to do likewise
