WIFI disabled - Greyed out since iOS 7 update on iphone 4s

My 4s has had no WIFI issues until i updated to iOS 7. after the update it worked for about 20 hours then disabled. I noticed my wifi was no longer connected, i checked the wifi was on and it was, still unable to connect i restarted the phone and now the WI-FI button is grey, dim and wont switch on. However Bluetooth does work fine, so I’m thinking it’s not the chip.

network setting reset

factory reset..... itunes crashed while restoring my data so now unable to re-sync my personal data

battery drain

freezer

nothing seems to fix this issue ! after reading forums it seems a similar thing happened when iOS 6.x.x was released, my 4s is out of warranty, apple seem to be taking no responsibility for the issue, clearly caused by the update as had zero issues until that point… which I find “convenient” as it so happens to co-inside with new iphone launches.

Please help anyone in the same boat ?

not a happy camper!

Test it to see if it works for you, Try heating it for about 2 or 3 min. at first, and see if your wifi will switch back on.

step 1 : turn off your phone

step 2 : heat the backside of the phone opposite side of the camera on top with a hairdryer.

step 3 : turn on the phone and then test your wifi.

This works for me, i get wifi for a few hours, But when i really heated the crap out of it for more then 10 min of straight heating my wifi is still working after 4 days.

First of all, if freezing and or heating works for your iPhone, it simply means the WIFI hardware in your iphone is NOT defective.

What is defective is likely caused by OVERLOADING by the new IOS, which is not designed with your oldie in mind.

Good luck to those who managed to revive the WIFI for long by merely hot blowing with hair dryer, if my experience is anything to go by, such low level fixing can only last so long; Thereafter you may have to repeat the same thing, and to do it harder and harder before the WIFI eventually dies perpetually.

Remember freezing works is because there is a safety shutoff to prevent overheating , this is never the cause of no WIFI. Heats works is because it opens up the "bottleneck" a little more to allow the demang new IOS to pump massive data through, but such filmsy fixing is not likely permanent. Over time, it should break down, and count yourself lucky if it can last for more than a week.

So, what is the solution ? Give Apple at least $200, and I am sure Apple is confident you will give them the money to clear their old stock. Their cost is probably only $50 according guru that strip gadgets apart for cost analysis.

Why ? Because you can't get a comparable Android for $200.

Now to make you upgrade IOS and don't allow you to downgrade simply suggests making consumers buying new phones is what matters to the Apple. And as such, there is probably no way out unless someone can convert your IOS back to the good old ones or perhaps repair shop is able to find a an easy way to bypass the "weak" connection without charging you an arm and a leg, Which is not linkely because I imagine they gotta pop open your phone yo either physically heat/solder something or change cable/pin etc.

Remember, never ever upgrade software on all Apple products because no one can help you when faced with similar problems. Apple has make it very clear they are not interested in oldies. They want you to buy a new hardware every 1-2 years. They're big, they have to show some numbers to Wall Street and unlike the old days, they are bankrupt of idea ... they're still selling the same old iPhone.

My 4S did the same thing when IOS 6 came out, the wifi was greyed out and did the hair dryer trick and was working until IOS 7. Basically it worked without a problem for 3 monts+. Like you said i don't believe the hardware is diffective otherwise there wouldn't be any temporary solution's to make it work. Anyway's Apple alway's win, i will probably by a 5S in a few weeks. lol or wait for the 6S to come out next year

I got Wi-Fi back on my iphone 4s after experiencing the same problem that many people are talking about.

What I did was:

Reset Networking

Change phone name to the one without apostrophe

Went to Apple Store, and got an offer of replacing iphone for $199 as the only resolution
(since it is a hardware problem, not software's. Also my phone was out of warranty)

Declined the offer

Went home to reset all app, email, keyboard, etc. since my phone was reset factory

**Changed to ON for Reduce Motion: Setting/General/Accessibility/Reduce Motion**

(since I found an article to reduce motion sickness that I also have been feeling since upgraded to new ios7.)

I think the last one might be the one to make wifi back. So I would like to share this.

I hope it will work on yours, and also it keep working on my iphone 4s for some more years...

Update

Here what I have done: Try heating it for about 3 min. at first, and see if your Wi-Fi will switch back on.

step 1 : turn off your phone

step 2 : heat the backside of the phone opposite side of the camera on top with a hairdryer.

step 3 : turn on the phone and then test your Wi-Fi.

Then I went to my Wi-Fi and it was connected

Once connected I tapped on the Wi-Fi connection and then I tapped on the small "i" within the circle to the right of my Wi-Fi connection.

I scrolled down near the bottom of the page and tapped on Renew Lease.

My 4s has been connecting perfectly. It stayed connect in my home.

Nock on whatever wall or brick it’s being working since 11:35PM last night and now it’s 5:47AM

If your wifi is disabled and the mac address is showing in the settings then there are 80 % chances that your wifi will be fixed,

my wifi was disabled since Nov 2012 when i updated to ios 6,i had tried everything like keeping in freezer, flashlight and hairdryer solution but nothing worked to me.my wifi had been disabled since 11 months. And now my wii is fixed its working great and its week now no greyed out problem and batterylife and perfermonce has became better.

If you want to fix your wifi theen you have to wait for jailbreak to come.Since there is no jailbreak for ios 7 you can not fix your wifi,After the jailbreak comes you can mail me at jaymeenpambhar@gmail.com i will tell you the steps to fix the wifi( i can not write the steps here because apple will remove the reply)..

Plz note that the wifi will only fixed if your mac address is not NIL in settings>general>about.i had fixed my wifi in ios 6 jailbreak and tehn i updated to ios 7.so you have to wait until the jailbreak comes..if you are on ios 6 then you can fix your wifi now just mail me at jaymeenpambhar@gmail.com,i will tell you the steps to fix it..
