WIFI disabled - Greyed out since iOS 7 update on iphone 4s

My 4s has had no WIFI issues until i updated to iOS 7. after the update it worked for about 20 hours then disabled. I noticed my wifi was no longer connected, i checked the wifi was on and it was, still unable to connect i restarted the phone and now the WI-FI button is grey, dim and wont switch on. However Bluetooth does work fine, so I’m thinking it’s not the chip.

network setting reset

factory reset..... itunes crashed while restoring my data so now unable to re-sync my personal data

battery drain

freezer

nothing seems to fix this issue ! after reading forums it seems a similar thing happened when iOS 6.x.x was released, my 4s is out of warranty, apple seem to be taking no responsibility for the issue, clearly caused by the update as had zero issues until that point… which I find “convenient” as it so happens to co-inside with new iphone launches.

Please help anyone in the same boat ?

not a happy camper!

Guys - there is no fix to this problem. Just got out of an Apple store genius bar appointment. iOS 7 kills the wifi/blutooth chip. hardware failure. If you're out of warranty or don't have apple care or can't upgrade your phone you are out of luck. They know it's a 4S problem only. You upgrade to iOS7 at own risk. Pretty big failure for apple.... IMHO

New York Times:

Apple could be deliberately making your iPhone slower when a new model comes out, an influential tech columnist has claimed.

Catherine Rampell, who writes in the New York Times, said that Apple could be engineering the new operating system so it only works properly with the newest version of the product.

She added her iPhone 4 became a lot slower when she downloaded iOS 7 – and that the only solution seemed to be to buy the iPhone 5.

Rampell accused Apple of having run out of ideas so was trying to ‘brainwash’ its customers into buying the new iPhone 5S and 5C because they look nice.

Rampell’s claims are likely fuel conspiracy theorists who have long held that Apple engages in ‘planned obsolescence’, a term which has been around since the Great Depression in the 1930s.

Apple, please sue New York Times, because most of the folks out there do believe this is the case.

Maybe if people actually purchased Apple care plus (which covers you for two years for hardware), then if these issues arise they will be covered! The wifi chip going bad is something that happens over time, its not due to a Software update, its a Hardware issue. People are blaming everything on ios 7, its getting kind of old and ridiculous.

Wifi being greyed out is not something that prevents the phone from working, so there are options such as upgrading your device or trading it in towards another model.

The update often does not cause the issue at hand but can bring forth already underlying issues of the devices.

Putting a phone in a freezer or running a blow dryer on it?? really?? I mean that is just asking for total damage to the device. Its an electronic device, not really sure why people would put it in a freezer and even then it is just a band-aid resolution not a fix.

I do not want to bash no one except when someone like me invested on buying Apple product I'm expecting to work and I don't care how long. Things goes bad after while.

But when you have your IPone 4S working fine and as soon as you update the IOS on it. The **** thing does not work and not all the 4S

I was one of them that got wacked with this problem and I called and asked and Googled until I got here which for a week I was up and made and blaming my self why in the **** did I updated.

Well to make this short story I found out about the freezer and that didn't work then I tried the blow dryer and guess what it did work and my phone being working since the 28th of last month.

I also did the restore thing and guess what: The **** phone working fine without any issue

Hello everybody.

I have had this problem since I updated my 4S to version 6.1.3. Many people have experienced this problem. However, if you are out of warranty, you are out of luck. Your only choice is when u visit apple store is to pay 199 and get 4s refurbished version. Also, tech support person in the store was aware of this problem and according to him, he came over many problems like this and as per Apple it is your fault that Apple sells you LEMON product and you did not buy insurance for it.

HERE IS THE non-high tech RESOLUTION for this "high tech" product.

1. Take hair blower, place phone on the book with power button side facing you, turn on the blower and apply on the side where the power button is until the phone gets very hot and u will see the yellow triangle on the screen that will notify you about unit being too hot.

2. Let the phone cool off and then turn it off and then on. Your problem will be solved.

However, bear in mind, that you will have to do it from time to time. First time I did it, it lasted 3 months, 2nd time, 2 months. I just did it again today and it again worked like a charm. I hope I can last for another 6 months and then I am switching to windows or android.

1: An high quality iphone should last for years (if not more than a nokia, which after 10 years still working).
2: to replace H/W when out of warrenty is our of question as it will cost few hundards $$ (apple do not repair, they do exchange). That is the issue and worst their parts are not cheap(if to look for third party)

3: They(iphone) are "top quality" (to me equal to LV/Ferrari of a phone). My TV has warrenty of 3 years and i still use it for 7 years. So does this means a iphone can only last 1 year, really so low quality ??

-- Basically i am saiding, yes change hardware but it is not cheap. i spent lots of my saving(40%) to get a iphone and it is suppose to be the top most quality phone out there, not even that stupid Samsing can figh with.

-- But to have it last for only one year ??? and worst only after i upgrade to IOS 7 ?? my Iphone 3gs is still working up to now, that is my expection.

- Not all people who buy a iphone are rich.

The iPhone 4s uses a Broadcom BCM4329 chip for it's wi-fi connectivity. This is the same chip used by Samsung, HTC, LG, Sony and Nokia among others. The hardware in your iPhone is no better or worse than the hardware in other devices. Moreover before you start slamming Samsung I suggest you check who manufacturers the screen in your iPhone and hold the phone a minute who do you think makes the CPU that is powering your lovely apps? ... That's right Samsung again.

If you take a Volvo and slap a ferrari badge on it then follow it up with a brillient marketing campaign you too can convince millions to spend more than they can afford to spend. Only to end up with an identical machine that millions of others have already purchased for half the price. It's no wonder not everyone that buys an iPhone is rich.
