WIFI disabled - Greyed out since iOS 7 update on iphone 4s

My 4s has had no WIFI issues until i updated to iOS 7. after the update it worked for about 20 hours then disabled. I noticed my wifi was no longer connected, i checked the wifi was on and it was, still unable to connect i restarted the phone and now the WI-FI button is grey, dim and wont switch on. However Bluetooth does work fine, so I’m thinking it’s not the chip.

network setting reset

factory reset..... itunes crashed while restoring my data so now unable to re-sync my personal data

battery drain

freezer

nothing seems to fix this issue ! after reading forums it seems a similar thing happened when iOS 6.x.x was released, my 4s is out of warranty, apple seem to be taking no responsibility for the issue, clearly caused by the update as had zero issues until that point… which I find “convenient” as it so happens to co-inside with new iphone launches.

Please help anyone in the same boat ?

not a happy camper!

Having same problem with 4s since upgraded the software.

There can be no coincidence that this new software has fried my Wifi chip. I do not believe that Apple would be in a position to defend a claim where they issue a software update and expect (or do not warn) users to not update.

Appalling behaviour from this company.

I think it is class action time.

I would suspect that if Apple are unable to come up with a patch this could cost them tens of millions.

Utterly disgusted!

I also have encountered the same issue and it all began as soon as I implemented ios7....I then visited apple (which was the biggest waste of time...which I will never get back!) only to discover that apple are not recognising this as an issue (because there blind as bats), which I find very ironic as there was another person experiencing the same issue at the same time....coincidence? I think not! This lead to the both of us arguing with a useless apple store manager. I had to walk out before I done something that would require a security escort! There is nothing apple can do of your phone is out of warranty. I find this absolutely sickening! Therefore I am going to speak with friends and family who work for various tabloids and magazines and have them look into publishing an article. Yes apple this is a media threat! This will really make your brand image improve....not! Also I have purchased 2 iPads for family members for Xmas however I am to return these! Apple is not getting no more money from me! If they cannot repair my iPhone then they can Enjoy the small financial loss! I'm sure others will do the same! All I can strongly recommend to everyone is don't buy apple products! Get a samsung galaxy! Or even the old Nokia 3210! It's more reliable than the iPhones! Lol

The unit was under warranty and swapped out at the Apple Store. The tech told me that he had seen quite a lot of this issue but that I should understand that it is not a "Recognized Issue" by Apple. I suggested that Apple should perhaps read their own forums because Apple seem to be the only people who haven't recognized it. All discussion of "the issue" was promptly dropped. They even suggested how lucky I was that they would replace it under the limited warranty - it was new in April ! On activation in the Apple Store the unit prompted an update to iOS 7.0.4 and the tech suggested I do that later! Are you kidding me? Did it in the store and luckily it did still have WiFi. Sadly the saga continues though ...

Got the new unit and immediately sent it to my son in Anchorage, (it was his phone) and the mic doesn't work on this unit. So he'll have to ship it back to NY for re-replacement ... because the carrier is Verizon who have no towers in Alaska and Apple phones cannot be manually programmed ... they MUST receive the provider's signal. The microphone problem is another issue which seems to have widespread coverage in the forums - and which, I'm sure, Apple is incapable of recognizing!

Really getting so tired of this .....

Was shocked that Apple-chat-help played dumb to my issue with this update problem. All I want is an apology that, yes this iOS7 update killed my wi-do like it has to many other users. It would be nice for them to be honest rather than keeping us in the dark. To be told that it's my phones problem and I would have to Pay to get it fixed. Hello, it's an Apple phone. If a new upgrade kills a devices hardware especially if it is said to be compatible I believe a free fix is warranted under consumer law. I want my wi-if back.

My wi-if works when the phone is cooled, so it must be an overheating problem with a chip. Wi-if worked perfectly under iOS6 before upgrade.

I had my IPhone replaced because it was still into warranty period ( in Europe is two years by law) and after a week touch stopped working properly and it looses telephone connectivity. I didn't upgrade to IOS7 again obviously. I had a perfectly working phone as new, kept with great care, and they replaced it with a badly repaired one. I'm simply disgusted.

My link was removed by Apple because i couldn't post the link apparently because they say it didn't answer the question. It was the answer right from Apple employees. How did that not answer the question?

I guess you need to just search online for Apple Store visit with iPhone 4S that has the wifi grayed out and battery issues after ios7 upgrade

I watched the video ,it's the same story everywhere from who ever you speak to at Apple .There was already an issue with your phone and the ios7 just highlighted it . Or in English ,we have broken your phone with our ios7 update but we do want to take any responsibility for that. All we need you to do is spend £150 to get back what you had before we updated it .Brilliant Apple . Wa...kers !!!

Apple have made a big mistake, in my opinion and missed a trick. This is clearly an issue brought about by the IOS 7 software upgrade. It is NOT our fault and they should be big enough to accept responsibility. Perhaps it had not been beta tested sufficiently on the series 4 phones and only on the 5? I had to pay £80 for a replacement phone, they wanted £160 but agreed to halve the cost (see my previous contribution to this forum) and the warrantee is only for 3 months as it is classified as a 'repair'. It is quite possible that the same problem will manifest itself in the phone I have now as it is another 4s. If they had been grown up and adult about this and said "Yes, it is a problem we are aware of" and replaced the phone free of charge, I would not be telling EVERYONE what an awful company Apple is! Suppose, however, they had said "Yes, it is a problem we are aware of and we will either replace the phone free of charge or please take a new iphone 5 for £160, the same cost as the repair would have been" I would now be saying "well done Apple for taking this on the chin" and also be telling EVERYONE "what a customer focussed company Apple is!" They may be out of pocket slightly, though I doubt it! But one thing is for sure, I would certainly have bought the iPad I was going to get as a present for my wife, I would certainly have replaced the iphone with another one when my contract with Vodafone comes up next August, I would certainly have spent many many more pounds in the iTunes store on music, films and TV shows.

Well, guess what, they didn't do that, they are not a customer focussed company and I am telling EVERYONE about my experience with Apple and have vowed to NEVER buy another one of their products again. Such a shame as the products are superb, just a pity the support and decision makers are not! . For such a successful company I find this whole debacle a complete mystery as it flies in the face of basic customer service principles.
