WIFI disabled - Greyed out since iOS 7 update on iphone 4s

My 4s has had no WIFI issues until i updated to iOS 7. after the update it worked for about 20 hours then disabled. I noticed my wifi was no longer connected, i checked the wifi was on and it was, still unable to connect i restarted the phone and now the WI-FI button is grey, dim and wont switch on. However Bluetooth does work fine, so I’m thinking it’s not the chip.

network setting reset

factory reset..... itunes crashed while restoring my data so now unable to re-sync my personal data

battery drain

freezer

nothing seems to fix this issue ! after reading forums it seems a similar thing happened when iOS 6.x.x was released, my 4s is out of warranty, apple seem to be taking no responsibility for the issue, clearly caused by the update as had zero issues until that point… which I find “convenient” as it so happens to co-inside with new iphone launches.

Please help anyone in the same boat ?

not a happy camper!

Mine seems to be the same and i have found that if you open up your bluetooth it will be going round in circles like it is trying to load therefore making it impossible to turn on your wifi. I hvae tried to reset my phone to factory settings but this DOES NOT fix the problem. I now have a phone that i cant get wifi on and that will not restore either..

I think the sting in the tail for most of us is that it was working fine until the update... and many of us rely on Wi-Fi capability for various reasons. Since the update and the fallout from the issues Apple remain quiet about this particular one, Apple will also tell you it’s a handful of users effected... But the internet is littered with an awful lot of very unhappy people just like me frustrated at the lack of solution with this same issue.

Either way I think we have to put our hands in our pockets to resolve this, either by fixing with Apple or replacing the phone. It’s either a software bug, or the software killed the hardware, whatever we don’t care do we. Is it Apples problem to solve this ? some will say not, But I think so, as a gesture of goodwill they should, since it’s a known issue. Will they honour a fix it for free if you don’t have a warranty ? No, unlikely. Why ? they are not legally obliged too I guess.

I tried every solution I have read to get it working and had some success with the hairdryer and freezer solutions but eventually this also stopped working, so for now I’m using an old iPhone 4 feeling quite fortunate that I didn’t sell It !.... my 4s is basically a paper weight now. my home mobile signal is not strong enough for 3g so without Wi-Fi many of the apps I use don’t work.

I will certainly remember these issues when my phone is up for renewal and look for Apple alternatives. I really hope I’m proven wrong and some kind of update fixes this for all of us ! but sadly I’m not going to be holding my breath !

Good luck people !

This is the way the bluetooth screen has worked in EVERY version of iOS. Look for blame elsewhere, like with the hardware in your device.

@ diesel vdub mate, i really don’t get why you are commenting on this post, you don’t have the issue listed here. You have had very little to offer by way of a solution either. You repeatedly say it’s hardware issue, get it repaired or replaced it’s nothing to do with apple, s4it happens. I get that, you are entitled to your opinion. To Many people here that’s not very helpful.

I think the point is people are reluctant to part with money unnecessarily, so will look at all the other options first. You seem to be taking peoples frustration with the issue personally, and venting at people looking for help.We are supposed to be on the same side bro !

Dear all,

I decided to do this reply for help everybody. I´m from Argentina, I have an Iphone 4s 32GB purchased on June 2012.

When I updated to Ios 7.00 no wifi issues. Last week I updated to 7.0.2 instantly starts wifi issues, over heating and stopped working. I was tried every I read in this or other posts and nothing change. I Tried hard reset to factory settings and nothing. I am sure that the problem is with Ios 7.0.2, because the problem start at this moment.

Anybody knows if Apple will release a fix for this bug?

Thanks for all your comments and We can try to help togheter.

:-( :-( Since I updated my 4s to iOS 7 my Wifi is gone not working at all.its completely greayed out. I tried Network Resetting on Airplane Mode, Reinstalling iOS 7, updting to iOS7.2 nothing seems likes solving my issue.I walked in to apple store and I was told by Apple Associate that my Wifi needs Service which means my phone has to be opened up , so he said I need to replace my phone as I'm out of warrenty I need to pay the whole money it seems.. :-( all just because I updated my iOS to 7.0 which is released by Apple and Said that iPhone 4s will be suppported. Does any one of u think that updating my iPhone 4S to iOs 7 is my fault ? ...I'm like in 3G world not able to connect to Wifi for last three weeks.also the reponse my apple associate at Apple Store is not at all making me feel good. I need some resolution to fix my wifi

oh--Wifi! I tried this and it is working....for now. Will keep the forum posted. Hubby points out that the WAP2 has been around since 2002 and the 4S came out in '08, so the hardware *should* be compatible to WAP2 encryption, which is more secure. Therere....software issue?

Truly, I think it is just a coinkydink.

I also would like to point out that since the update, my bluetooth, which used to get about 12-14' range to my wireless speaker in the kitchen only gets about 4' before failing now. ALSO, whenever I shut of the phone (slide to power off), it takes forEVER to turn off--like a minute and a half. That is new....

Had not tried the freezer thing for several days, as I have just basically given up, but after setting the router to WAP2 and a hard reset (but did not reset network settings this time around), my wifi button was not greyed out and immediately located sevral networks in the area.

Cheers!

Same exact issue with my 4s. I updated to iOS7, my wifi working for about a day and then greyed out. Now it is not greyed out (after I reset my network settings in airplane mode) BUT IT WILL NOT PICK UP ANY CONNECTION WHATSOEVER. I have tried freezing and draining the battery etc, but nothing it working. The fact that the wifi is greying out then not, but not picking up signal doesnt lead me to believe it's a hardware issue, especially since my wifi hasn't greyed out with continued use over the past few days.

Exact same issue with me ive tried everything STILL MY WIFI WONT WORK.I rang apple yesterdayafter one hour

on the phone telling them my 4s was fine untill ios7 the only answer they came up with was that it was just a

coincidence HA EVERY ONE I DONT THINK SO.so at the end of the call he said it would cost one hundred and

forty six pounds to fix my phone and he would book it in.NO CHANCE .But i did say to him apple was not getting

good reviews about this problem. So i have a 4s i cant use only on very slow 3g.
