probably is I have thought about downloading yet another camera app in the hope that it is just a software problem but it isn't, So many people have been having this problem, so far my iphone 5s is ok but the ipad I am so disappointed with, I have contacted Apple. they said they would arrange so I could send the thing back to them, but not heard nothing more. Clearly Apple are not at all interested in sorting out a problem on their end.

Apple replaced my iPad for free, i am very satiesfied with support and solution. This was done because the Norwegian consumer authorities require 5 years right to complain for products with a life expectancy of more than 5 years. In my case I could show to Norwegian legislation, and Apple accepted to replace the iPad after it was examined by a product specialist.

In the future, Apple should warn their existing customers if an upgrade could harm or dramage older models. This is a reasonable claim that Apple should take into account.

I am also having this issue since the latest upgrade. We are an apple home as of right now, we have 5 iPod touches, 2 iPhones, a Mac laptop and this useless paperweight I call an ipad.

If this camera issue isn't fixed soon then we will no longer be an Apple household. I am finished, there have been so many apple issues lately it has me seriously considering the integrity, reliability and over all competence of Apple as a whole. I am seriously disappointed but have no issues getting rid of all of these products and becoming an android family. I no longer have warranty on this ipad, but clearly this is an IOS7 issue, if Apple doesn't fix it or replace my ipad then this will be the end of Apple in my life. If I need to spend money in any way to fix this problem caused by Apple, it will be on a different tablet, I will not give them a single cent of my hard earned money because they are incompetent at what they do. HELLLLLOOOOOOOOO APPLE! ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? PEOPLE ARE ANGRY AND YOU'RE LOSING CUSTOMERS FAST! Do you care? Apparently not!

I have tried all the tricks, resets, downloading the other camera app, NOTHING WORKS! Very convenient at Xmas time to not be able to use this to skype, FaceTime, video or pictures..... What the **** good is it then?

I have had similar problems with the front camera working but when I try to switch to the back camera it freezes. I have just found that in IOS7 that if I use the camera icon in the Control Centre (swipe up to access), that I can get the rear camera to work successfully). In addition once I have the rear camera working this way, I can then go into other applications and use the rear camera successfully also.

It's still a bunch of garbage. My ipad 2 is out of warrantee. There is NOTHING structural wrong with it. Apple put out software that broke it. If their only way to fix the problem is to issue replacements, it shouldn't matter if it's under warranty or not. If I went to a Genius and he picked up my ipad and threw it on the ground, would he/she not be responsible for breaking it that way just because it was out of warrantee? I don't see any difference here. And yes, I've tried all the suggestions, and nothing fixes the problem. Ironically, it seems maybe the only way to fix Apple's mistake would be to jailbreak so that I could go back to previous firmware, if that's even possible.

Here we go with a possible fix,,,,

I lost both cameras after going to ios 7, I waited for ages to see if there were any problems with my wifes ios upgrade, then switched from ios 6 to ios 7 last week, we both have iPhone 4 16gb devices.

It was only recently that I found out how to close apps that are open in the background which I believe zap some of the power, (RAM in pc terms), on ios 6 It was very different to how you do this on ios 7.

THE FIX? Maybe,,,

Double press the home button, this will show a line across the bottom of the screen of the icons for apps that are still running AND a small image of the app above the icon, close all of these one by one, by swiping the image (not the icon) upwards, once you have closed them all, power down the device.

Restart the device by holding the home button and power button for 10 seconds the apple logo comes on, then off, then on again at the 10 second mark, release both buttons and leave the device to fully start.

At that point I tried my camera and they both worked.

I don't know if this has been tried or talked about before but it has solved my camers issues and I wanted to share in case it is the fix.

Response to the result of the above would be interesting and welcome.

This must be an ios7 problem as it's the only common factor in all of these posts unless we all have a common app installed that is not compatible with ios7.

If it was a hardware problem, then surely it would just be all iphone4 for example and not a mix of iPhone and iPad.

Apple have to take note and either fix the problem or give a rollback to ios6 option.

I am in the same boat. I have an IPAD 2 After installing the ios7update the camera/video screen won' t open. My front camera will take a picture but not the rear one. It doesn't even recognize that I am touching the screen. I called the Apple store today and of course they referred me to the genius bar, so I have an appt. on Friday. It sounds like I will be wasting my time. Have you been able to figure anything out since you posted a few days ago?

Hey guys, I've been plagued with the black camera problem as well with my iphone 4s. Originally, I did a factory reset a few times and set the phone up as new which fixed it one time, but shortly after it reverted back to the black screen. Today I uninstalled the Speech Jammer and the camera started working again so hopefully it lasts. If anyone else has this app installed give this a try and lets hear back.
