iOS 7 USB Vehicle Loses last played location

I plug my phone into my vehicle via USB plug. I can control my iPhone using my vehicle controls. Previous to iOS7 I would turn my car off and when I started it back up it started playing the music from where I left off. After the update to iOS7 it doesn't remember where I last was and starts back at the first song "alphabetically" in my music library.

For example. I start a playlist and when I unplug and plug back in, it doesn't remember that I was 3 songs into my playlist and starts with the first song in my entire library. This is frustrating because every time I start my car I have to select the playlist I want to play all over again. Previous to iOS7, it knew I was playing a playlist and it stayed in my playlist and started off exactly where I left off (in the middle of a song if that is where I was).

I am aggravated, and the only solution I can come up with is to delete all my playlists and delete all songs from my phone and only put the songs on my phone that I want to play. This really isn't a good solution because it will still start over on the same song every time I start the car.

We had an update this morning to fix the bug for bypassing lock screen, and I was hoping there would be a bug fix for this very annoying inconvenience as well but there wasn't. I have not seen anyone else complaining about this.

I am not manually pausing! It pauses itself when i unplug it from the Usb or also when i unplug the head phone jack.... Not sure what you are getting at but i will end this there because its not necessary, my prob is the same either its usb or with headphone i get it either way, see the link about the other thread, im not the only one and i iust want to inform others on here that their usb issue may also occurs with head phone, obviously there is something slightly different but the problem in the end is the same, more info, more cuances of apple fixing it.

I too am at the point where I hate my iPhone. Hardly a day goes by that I don't throw it across my truck in frustration because iOS 7 has completely broken the way the music player functions in the car.

It constantly resets to the first song alphabetically on my iPhone. It never remembers what song it was playing, even when the song it was playing IS STILL ON THE NOW PLAYING SCREEN!

Every single event that takes place on the plug, ie: Plugging or unplugging from my Kenwood USB port, starting my truck, turning the key from IGN to ACC, even sometimes for no reason at all, all of these events cause it to reset to the first song. It doesn't matter if it was playing music from the music player or I Heart Radio, it never remembers what it was doing and goes back to that first song.

Here's what I deal with every morning.

I wake up. Fire up I Heart Radio, tune it to Q95, buffer the stream, listen to Bob and Tom.

Go out to my truck, plug it into stereo, iPhone interrupts stream, starts music player and plays first song alphabetically.

I switch back to I Heart Radio, tune it to Q95, buffer the stream, 30 second commercial plays, iPhone interrupts stream, starts music player and plays first song alphabetically.

I switch back to I Heart Radio, tune to Q95, buffer the stream, no commercial this time, I Heart Radio plays until I get to work.

Get to work, switch truck from IGN to ACC, iPhone interrupts stream, starts music player, first song again.

Switch back to I Heart Radio, tune Q95, buffer stream, yadda.

Turn off truck, unplug USB, iPhone interrupts stream, starts music player, first song... yeah.

One more time! Switch back to I Heart Radio, tune Q95, buffer stream.

Every... single... morning... since... IOS 7... was... released.... GRRRRRRRR!!!! I HATE THIS PHONE NOW!

Same thing with the music player. Pick a song, plug something in, music player resets. So freaking annoying.

It never did this with iOS 6. I could tune one station or pick one song or album and it would work perfectly from that point on. I miss those days. I was a lot less frustrated by my phone back then.

Can you try what I mentioned above? That is, playing via a playlist, via "Songs", via "Albums", etc. Just curious if you are running into the same things.

Playlists -> select a playlist -> play a song - no issues

Albums -> select an album -> play a song - iPhone loses its place upon plugging or unplugging

Artists -> select an album -> play a song - loses its place

Artists -> play a song -> select album from upper right of Now Playing -> play a song - loses its place

Songs -> play a song - no issues

Your tests are all within short periods, does it still remember your playlist after you haven't used it for longer? If i unplug usb and then replug it, is the only time it remembers the song i was playing, but if i work a few hrs come back to my car im back in tue main library and no longer in my playlist. Just curious to know if the same for you?

Thanks for sharing the info!

Any issues I've had are with USB and are immediate. I've never run into an issue where what's in Now Playing goes away minutes/hours after stopping/unplugging. And I haven't had any issues with Bluetooth/headphones/built-in speaker.

The only semi-related issue I can think of is if I have something paused in Music, then go watch a video from YouTube in Chrome. Sometimes, if I don't close that tab in Chrome, what's in the global Now Playing (that is, what you'd see in the lock screen) will be the name of the video, but nothing plays. I figure that's an issue with Chrome not totally giving up control. That said, if I go back into the Music app, my paused song is right where I left it.

Also, to clarify, I only have issues when I plug into my car stereo. If I just plug into a charger nothing happens.

I play through the USB. It's an Apple cable plugged into a Kenwood radio USB port.

Been a little over 30 minutes now. Went out to truck, plugged in and it picked up right where it left off on the playlist. This might be a workaround for new CD's as I could quickly whip up a playlist for a new album. I shouldn't have to do that for my 2500+ song library though and it doesn't fix my I Heart Radio interrupt issue.

Now, working in a car stereo shop has its advantages and here are a few things that I've discovered over these past few weeks of testing with various head units and iPhones.

What used to work properly with a 4S but had compatibility issues with the 5 seems to have been reversed with the new OS. Now the 5 seems to work a little better while the 4S does not. A fellow employee's 5 works just fine with almost everything we sell.

Every single head unit in the building seems to work just fine when playing from the playlist on my 4S. I can jump from radio to radio and it picks up right where it left off. I haven't found one yet that will continue playing if I select an individual song first. It wasn't like this before.

I don't know what kind of magical power the playlist function has but I wish the rest of the music player worked like that!

I tried my car its a gm, i have both usb and aux, i use an apple usb cable, i also tried via the aux cable which uses head phone jack the same thing happens. I also use the apple head phines same thing, same with my marley head phones and also if i use it with my bose sound system. I use only playlists. This started with new OS 7, if i recently played a song unplug the device make a quick call plug it back, if i press the button twice and player comes up, im good it plays from where it stopped, but if i press the iphone button twice an player is gone, i use the new sliding up and it plays from the library. Oddest issue i ever seen. I had all other ipod touch before and this new iphone with ios6 with no issues like this...

You are lucky if your playlists are remembered wished mine did that since thats the onoy way i like to play my music.

Yes. Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC and Dual. I tested various models throughout each of their product lines from low end to top of the line.

The Kenwoods with an actual "app mode" for Aha, Pandora, etc seem to remember what individual song was playing about 50% of the time with my 4S, with some models doing better than others. This playlist thing though... what is it's secret?

Pioneer sent us an email warning about updating to iOS 7 because it breaks 4S compatibility with their first gen App radios.
