anyone else notice stuttering animation on the iphone 5S

I went from the iphone 5 on ios 7 to the 5S and the animations on the 5S stutter about 50% of the time. specifically opening and closing folders and opening and closing apps.

ios7 on my iphone 5 runs buttery smooth. I thought the 5S is supposed to run better not worse.

anyone else having this issue and any suggestions? I believe that the software version for the 5S is not quite optimized at it should.

ios7 on the 5 went through 6 betas with thousands of developers running the betas reporting bugs. No one had the 5S so maybe its version of ios 7 is not quite finished.

any thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks

i have been on 7.1 beta 2 since Friday. All stutterring animations are now super smooth and noticeably faster than 7.04 and 7.1 beta 1. I used to be able to replicate the stutterring with ease (would always happen with certain apps). Now i cant make it stutter at all.

This is how 7.0 should have been at release.

what exactly do you mean by shifting places, they actually end up in a different position from where you place them?

If this is what you mean then it is something that i have yet to experience on any version of 7.x so i dont know if it was fixed. if you have a way for me to replicate the issue i can try it in 7.1 beta 2. let me know

I have not noticed this in 7.1 beta 2. The icons are in line and don't seem to shift at all. Overall 7.1 beta 2 seems to improve a lot of the performance issues that plagued 7.04

However it is still not perfect. One bug I noticed is on occasion the phone will respring when trying to open an email from the lock screen notification center.

7.1 beta 2 has solved all of the stuttering issues for me. I have not noticed any of the shifting icons that others have commented on. As of now if beta 3 is out I have no access to it. My developer account still only shows beta 2 available.

I was disappointed with my 5s also until beta 2. It now performs as 7.0 should have at release. Some of the other bugs are not related to the stuttering but since it's still beta they don't bother me as they will get fixed. Overall 7.1 beta 2 is huge improvement over the latest public release 7.04.

jmco, thank you for describing so underestimated problem with iphone 5s, there's almost no information about it on the web, i thought that i got some kind of defective phone, as i see iphone 5 of my gf is performing perfect in terms of closing apps and folders (ios7 "zooming" animation). but i want to make clear if 7.1 beta fixed two different lags, as i can distinguish:

1. First and most annoying animation lag that i have is when i close the app, when it's almost on home screen, i definetely see frame drop at the end (stutter), it make animation not smooth. Most of apple apps are affected: calendar, mail, settings, etc. When it's zooming out to folder, that cointains that app, 99% that it won't lag, i think it's because there's not much graphics to render. It happens mostly when i zoom out to desktop full of app's icons. That's what i hate and want to fix.

2. Second lag is when you close the app, and when app is finished closing and you see the apps icons, the icons grid is being shifted maybe millimeters left or right. It is obviously linked with parallax effect, it seems that position of icons grid is being calibrated and matched with sensor data, that's just what i think that might be. This thing is not very annoying, but i wonder what is the future of this lag in 7.1 beta.

Please tell which of these lags did you suffer from, and do 7.1 fix them. Thank you!

The first issue you speak of has been fixed in 7.1. That issue is exactly the reason I started this thread. The closing of the apps is where I noticed the greatest lag. It made the whole experience on the 5s seem like I was using a iPhone 4.

7.1 has completely eliminated that stuttering. Animations are supper smooth and considerably faster then 7.0x

The second issue does not seem to be present either in 7.1 I never really noticed it in 7.04 but I am sure it was there. I have been trying it recreate it in 7.1 after reading about others that have experienced it but I have not been able too

Overall 7.1 is huge improvement over 7.0x. My 5s feels like it should now. Fast and smooth.

I presume that 7.1 will get even better when the final version is released.

The stuttering that I speak of is on the 5s. I have experienced it on several 5s that I have been able to get my hands. In Fact. I have yet to play with a 5s that did not stutter on iOS 7.0x. I can only assume that all of them experience this on 7.0x builds of iOS. The good news is that it seems to only be a software issue that has been corrected in 7.1 so if you have a 5s don't get rid of it. It will go away when Apple releases the final version of 7.1.
