My iPhone 4s will not charge

I've had my iPhone for almost 2 years now, my upgrade is due in a couple of months- so it may just be that the battery is worn out, but any alternative possible solutions would be great.

All of a sudden its just stopped charging- never had any previous problems or signs that the battery was on its last legs- just plugged it in last night and it wouldnt work. Tried 2 other charges, tried usb, all in all ive tried 4 different chargers and nothing. I've blown into it, checked for dust and it still won't work.

I'm on 19% battery and getting desperate so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got the same battery icon with 2-3 red bars on an iPhone 4S. A picture for a charger port appears below. It disappears when I plug the phone in, but it doesn't charge and the phone does not turn on.

So after reading a few a lot of postings here suggesting the dock port is faulty or dirty, I cleaned the charging port and the cable plug with a bit of cleaning alcohol and a small toothbrush. After letting it sit for 5 minutes or so, I did a reset by holding home+power (this does not wipe your data), and the phone actually turned on. If you are unlucky your dock port might be too dirty or rusted and might have to be replaced.

I too am having this problem as of this morning. My phone charged fine overnight, and then wouldn't charge today. I had actually thought the charger I keep in my car (the cord that came with the 4s I carry for work), but then it wouldn't charge on any of the cords I have at home either.

Has anyone also had a problem leading up to this, where their phone would randomly run down to 0% when the battery was well over 50% and then when you plugged the phone in to charge it would jump right back up to the level it was at before?

I find it suspicious that the majority of people who are having this problem are a month or so away from an upgrade being available.

I found that someone else's fix worked for me. I turned my phone off completely and then connected it to my charger. It started charging then, and once it started charging and tried to turn itself on, I turned it off again. I had to turn it off a total of three times, but the phone charged. I did this right before I went to bed, so when I woke up, I had a fully charged phone, and I haven't had a problem since.

Same problem. I think that I must have just became upgrade eligible, so I have an option, but I didn't want to get rid of the phone. I started having a few issues with the ringer recently, but nothing I couldn't work around. But, it charged to 100% night before last, I brought it into work, plugged into the PC. Deleted some photos as I was running out of space, and then noticed it wasn't charging. Have iOS 7.xx, was thinking of going to latest rev, but won't now. I am trying the trick with turning off the phone after plugging in. I am not getting a charging indicator when turned off, but each of the three times I turned it on, and back off, noticed that the percentage went up 1% each time when I could see the home screen before turning back off. I am going to leave it plugged in for awhile and see what happens, otherwise will upgrade.

Just an FYI, being my impatient self, I just turned the phone back on and it is up to 33%, from 25%, in 7 minutes. So, it looks like it is charging while being turned off, though there is no charging indicator as there used to be.

Again, I did boot up and turn off multiple times prior, so I dont know if that had anything to do with it or not. I thought that I had tried charging it while turned off yesterday to no avail, but not I cannot recall specifically as I was trying multiple processes.

Good luck.

I posted yesterday, I believe, about the same problem. I simply plugged the phone into a wall charger, turned the phone off, powered on, and off again, about three times, then I left it off and charging.

It then fully charged, and now charges again when powered on. It also connects to my laptop again, whereas it had quit being recognized by my computer. Seems to be OK at the moment.

I have had the same issue as most people here, phone would'nt charge with 3 genuine apple chargers/cables etc.., the solution appears to be a charging point replacement within the iphone, I have just had it replaced and now the phone is 100%. Cost was €40 from a phone repair shop and it took 5 mins. If you want to send it to apple you wont see your phone for min 10 days plus and I can imagine the cost will be substantially higher if it's not under warrenty anymore.Hope this helps.

I pulled my hair out with this problem. did not recognize the charger, except when battery was completely dead, then it would power up to 5% and stop charging.

It did charge powered off.

What seems to work is if I power off and then hold down the home key, power cord plugged in, when it is turning on. So far so good. Keeping fingers crossed since other "fixes" worked for a bit but didn't last. This one has worked consistently for a half dozen times, so I am optinmistic.

I tried doing this and I tried everything, but my iphone still would not charge! So, in the end I booked an apointment for the genius bar at the apple store and took my phone in. They took my phone off and opened it up to see what the problem was. The lady said she tried changing the battery as well as many other things, but the actual dock was broken. This meant that it could not be fixed and there was nothing they could do. The only option I was left with was to get a new iphone 4S and as mine was out of warrenty (by about 3 years) I had to pay, but it was very discounted as they took the old phone off so it all worked out for the best in the end, although it was completely broken and the whole phone had to be fully replaced.
