Couldn't update. Installer wants me to quit Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent. Can't find a way to do that. Can't move these apps from MS Office folder. Remove from Login Items, but they return. Fortunately, resolving all font conflictes in FOnt Book seems to have helped with the crash-on-startup in Word. But would still like to update.
Dear adampcl,
You are absolutely brilliant. As always, the simple and logical solution did work!
"The solution for problem with polish version MS Word is:
1. Go to Aplication folder > Office > and find Word
2. Click right mouse button and select show package content
3. Go to Contents > Recources
4. Change name folder from pl.lproj to en.lproj
And Your MS Word bring to live"
Your advice has worked BEAUTIFULLY for me ! - Bardzo dziekuje i najserdeczniej pozdrawiam - what means "many thanks and warmest greetings". Adampcl deserves our eternal gratitude.

P.s. The whole affair with the Polish version of Office also shows that the quality control and debugging by MS is not fully satisfactory. Many users depend daily on the Word and the present disruption has put a rather bad light on MS.
Do you remember the good old days with WordPerfect for Apple II ? - It worked 🙂
It's incredible!
IT REALLY WORKS!
THANK YOU!

I confirm. The solution of adamcpl works also for me (Polish version).
I found on some other forum that it should also work with other non-English flavors of MS Word.
didn't work for me either...
Okay. I have read all the threads.
The conclusion, so far, is that all the Microsoft Office for Mac crashes except the English version and Polish versin with manual modifications.
I have to wait for the future fixes.
I read somewhere that MS Office needs Java SE 6 to work properly. After Mavericks update, my English Office version was crashing all the time. I just installed Java SE 6 from this link...
http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572
... then manually reinstalled the latest MS Office update found here...

... and everything is working great now.
Give it a try!
Problem solved! with the suggestion by @MicrosoftHelps
In my case,
I tried all the posted way of challenges, but any of those helped.
But finally the following article by Phillip M Jones suggested by @MicrosoftHelps solved the problem.
The font caches played bad role in my case.
I used FontNuke.app to clear the font caches. Then problem solved!
Try!
Little more information for all...
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint for Mac 2011
Version 14.3.8 (130913)
Mac OS S 10.9
I'm not sure I have Java SE 6, but I installed Java 7 Update 45 (build 1.7.-_45-b18)
I hope the information is helpful.
Try Open Office Apache for Mac and you can save into Word or read Word from a Windows PC and it is free. I changed from Windows to Mac with OpenOffice with problem.
I had exactly the same EXEC_BAD_ACCESS problem and resolved it by sorting out fonts using font book. See here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2143523?answerId=10126310022#10126310022
