I was having the problem of crash after the second Save. Save one time, OK. Save second time: crash. I tried updating Java, running the Office update again but nothing helped.
Then I tried saving the file as docx (I was using doc before - word 97-2004) and it didn't crash! I think I can keep using docx for a while.
Amazing, I had problem with Polish version as well. How it is possible to have such bug and also to know the solution ?!
I too have this problem with the Mavericks Update.
However my variation is that Word Opens a document just fine.
I can edit and save...
But if I attempt to print---CRASH, everytime.
Have tried all suggestions here (except for the Polish name change) - no joy.
What a pain!

You applied the update? You may need to uninstall Office and reinstall as has worked for others,
Cheers

yes I uninstalled and then reinstalled, I have cleaned up my fonts removed duplicates, rebuilt the font cahes, restarted the machine....
I have updated to Java 7
Even OpenOffice crashes on when attempting to print a Word Doc. Pffice continues to crash when I attempt to print an Excel Doc or a Powerpoint doc as well.
All other apps seem to function well, Keynote will print the Powerpoint for me and I can save the others to a PDF and print them that way...
The fonts usually have cuased Microsoft issues for me in the past, but I have cleaned and reinstalled and still have problems -- most vexing!
Adam, dziękuję za pomoc. Wreszcie działa mi Word 🙂
Działaj dalej!
Worked!!!
you are hero of my day ! Thanks
Brawo Piotrek! Works like a charm 🙂
Hi all, it seems that updating Java Runtime to the latest version fixed this crash-issue.
You can find the latest Java version here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.h tml
At least, I could previously not save more than five times in a row before Word would crash and I haven't had any issues after 20 saves.
Same issue here - only I don't need to try and print. Word will just crash if it is open for more than 5 seconds. I can open a document, do a bit of work and then "BAM" - it crashes.
Safari is freezing, too, so I think it is an Apple issue.
(I tried the Java update idea posted here - no difference.)
Have you tried OpenOffice it is free and you can save it in Word format. It works well with Mavericks.
Thank you! That worked for me, too.
ps: He said to reinstall MS Office update using this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40352
The 14.3.9 update has been released.
In case of Polish version (which is fixed in this update) remember to change again "en.lproj" to "pl.lproj" prior to update.
Without that only part of structure is updated.
Br,

Well, 14.3.9 did not solve my problem.
I use MS Word in which the language is registered to use East Asian languages.
Anyhow, the one workaround that has worked is to turn off balloons for track changes. However, there are times when I do need to see these balloons (i.e., comments) and I can't turn them on because that would crash Word.
So, is there a more permanent fix? Mavericks has been out for a while and MS still hasn't solved this problem. Boo 😟
