Mavericks Dock: Change color

The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.

(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

So, Ronzue... you're saying that this thread is only about negative comments.... not open to all opinions.

It's not so much a question of what this thread is about, more what the forum is for. Please note the following from the Terms Of Service you agreed to when signing up:

Stay on topic. Apple Support Communities is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:

The OP specifically asked a question about the side dock. So you are not the only one having difficulty staying on topic, but all those who have vented their opinions concerning Apple's decisions aren't necessarily helping, either.

OK. I'm still here.

I understand the concerns here.

I thought the forum was about free exchange of ideas. I've been in many threads before and never been attacked like this. It's very unfortunate.

My only objection is to being told by someone that my opinion is not "meaningful".

I was not criticizing anyone. I was making a simple statement of opinion.

The fact that you can hardly see the indicator lights was driving me nuts, as I like to see what apps are open, even if it doesn't necessarily make that much of a difference.

Here's a link that describes what jrebergen posted earlier in this thread, and it also gives you a terminal command to restart the dock without restarting your computer:

Tried it with Mavericks and Rt Side dock. No change in color of lights.

Really? A couple of things:

1. The process I was referring to is towards the bottom of the linked page under the "Changing the dock indiactor lights manually" section, and not the MacUtil. Sorry, I should have been clear on that.

2. For retina displays you have to change the pngs with "2x" in their name, and the other ones are for normal dispays.

3. Make sure to use the "killall Dock" terminal command to see your changes (or restart your computer, which takes longer).

Greetings! I possess the dock side of the screen. The background is too bright and contrasty, I would like to be able to make it as dark as the previous version of the system. And just to be able to set its transparency. Just Application icons look better on a dark background.

Dockmod program does not help to resolve the issue when the dock is located side of the screen. Besides, I do not want to use third party software to customize only the background. No longer need only to choose a dark background dock and its transparency. I expect a formal decision. Thank you.
