Mavericks Dock: Change color

The new bright side dock in mavericks is ugly and hard for the eye. There MUST be a solution to change the white background to something more easy for the eye.

(I don't mention the new ugly calendar and contacts because I hardly use them, but the new Apple Design Team seems to think that white is a reasonable color for an app background - they are obviously wrong) 😮

of course i'm still looking for a in-os solution since i try to keep the

amount of software as low as possible, already have around 100 apps

which i need for my work :-)

hi,

no, that's nothing :-)

the dock is slightly transparent thus adapts to some degree to the background.

see me screenshot to get an idea what most here are talking about, key point is

that the dock background should be dark as an option and the transparency should

be able to ajust to one's liking.

however, if the the dock is dark, even the default transparency might be ok, just not greyish.

Only one sensible thing to do. I moved it to Bottom and invoked auto hide for first time ever. Dont know why I didnt do it before.

I tried this and I don't like it. Apple needs to fix the Dock background color or someone needs to find a hack to do it without Apple's assistance. For me having the Dock on the side is the only acceptable location so I will wait for a solution. In the mean time I have increased the size of the Dock to make up for the low contrast. Also I have changed my desktop bacground to be grey linen to compensate for the low visibility of the new tags (was labels) scheme (I just can't see a little green dot next to a file name when the background is a green wave).

Yes, but the ugly grey is still there when you mouse over. And as well in the Top Sites page.

God, this is the first time ever I hate Apple. And Mavericks even more. Seriously considering doing a complete erase and going back to Mountain Lion 10.8. Seriously.

I was also thinking that this is the first time in my memory (and I have been using the Mac sinc 1985) that I thought a new Mac OS update had a change or feature that was outright bad. Mavericks has a few features that just seem to be bad implementations (the new label/tag scheme is not well thought-out or implement in my opinion). It occured to me that this is the first full release of OS X in a post-Jobs errra. So perhaps this is what we have to look forward to.

I was thinking along the same lines myself, Apple post-SJ.

There is no question that Mavericks has some improved features, but from a purely aesthetic standpoint, which let's face it, most people are attracted to the whole Apple/MacBook thing to begin with, it's awful. Truly awful. And not just "well, it's ok, I'll live with it". No, it's nothing like the calssy and sophisticated look that Apple are known for. This is such a departure. I feel like I'm back in Windows.......

Thanks for the black triangles open app indicator. As I'm one of the side dock users, I have changed the png (with Preview) to vertical ones and they work a charm. The black indicators on washed background are really standing out! One problem solved, but still with the incredibly ugly backgound, though.

Thanks

How do you do this? Where are these .png files? Is this explained in one of the video links that was posted?
