How can I change the login screen background on Mavericks?

I followed your instructions, Konrad, and now I have 4 pngs of my choosing with identical names as the originals, and I still see the old grey background...weird, right? I went to the right location and replaced the right files/used correct names.

I did make them PNG's...the names/format was identical on the replacement to the originals. Update: it changes something: it seems to take away the apple logo, and make the whole screen a different shade of grey. Maybe I will try another picture and see if that works.

Different picture...still doesn't work. Not sure why, but it is just giving me a grey screen with the sleep button etc. Oh well...at least I can revert it without an issue. It's odd though, maybe my pictures are just too big?

oooh...permissions, forgot about those. ha ha

Disclaimer: After years I have finally switched from PC to Mac. Now trying to master it.

So can someone give a concise & final post (with instructions) as to the proper way to solve this issue for Mavericks? I've got to plaster my company logo on the login screen to deter Loki. thnx.

Can you explain how to do this again in more detail. I can't seem to find anything named 'frameworks' in my library folder... :/ Am I just being stupid?

I'm not seeing any options in Onyx to change log in screen images.

I made a .psd-file as a template for the login screen and added the Apple logo and the buttons at the bottom. It works fine for my screen, which is 1280x800, but if you have another resolution you should resize the image or write your resolution in this thread, and I'll fix it for you.

OK everyone I am baffled. When I do this (according to all the advice given here including the osxdaily article) the image moves up and I still see the gray background underneath. Am I doing something wrong?

Make the image higher. For me it worked making it 50% higher than my screen resolution. And make sure that the replacement image is the same size as your screen and covers the bottom of the whole image. Leave the space above it white, but make sure to actually put white space there since a .png-file doesn't naturally get a white background when you export like a .jpg-file would do.

Adding to the top of the picture worked but how did you get the Restart, Shutdown, etc buttons to show up as well?
