Three finger swipe no longer works on Mavericks

I have just updated to Mavericks.

Prior to installing Mavericks, I was able to do a 3 finger swipe left or right to go back or forward in a Finder window.

After I have installed Mavericks, I can no longer do this. I have checked in System Preferences/Trackpad and the settings are exactly as they were before I updated to Mavericks.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and if so have you found of solving it.

for some ppl swipe in finder maybe a small problem, for other's like my self maybe huge.. i NEVER use a mouse and i work in finder constantly... when i installed Mavericks it was the 1st thing i noticed, after asking here and there i realised it wasn't just a bug... it surely would have been fixed by now.. all i did was go back to Mountain..fresh format using time machine ... i come here from time to time to see just in case it is fixed so i can go to Mavericks but NOTHING !! i DON'T understand apple sometimes.. WHY **** on a wonderful thing like swipe and regardless of all the complaints by it's users they still ignore us !! It's just like my iphone 4 .. after i installed the 7 it just became so so slow, waited for a month to see if they would do anything about it but AGAIN - NOTHING ! So i sold it for peanuts and bought a 5s ......... NO COMMENT !!

I was having the same problem and the follow worked for me (god knows why):

1. open system preferences / trackpad

2. go to 'more gestures'

3. select 'swipe left or right with three fingers' on the 'Swipe between full-screen apps' pulldown menu

4. make sure 'Swipe between full-screen apps' is un-selected (check mark disappears)

5. close trackpad window

6. open system preferences / trackpad

7. go to 'more gestures'

8. select 'Swipe between full-screen apps' (check mark appears)

9. close trackpad window

10. give it a try...good luck

@Paul FP: Didn't work for me.

Anyway, I have been using cmd+up or down to go in or out of a folder (in tiles view).

This is not the same as prev or next, but most of the time prev is going out of a folder.

Using arrows to navigate between folders and then cmd+down to go in the folder works quit fast if you get used to this a little bit. cmd+down can open files as well, so when you are at the arrow keys with your hand, you don't have to go back to the trackpad to point at the file you want to open and double click it.

I know it is no solution, but it seems indeed that this 3 finger swipe to navigate between pages won't return to finder.

Only thing we can do is try to find something else to replace this gesture. Maybe my method can help you, maybe not.

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply bud, but i can't risk installing Mavericks again. What if it doesn't work? Which probably wont !! That means i'll have to format my retina AGAIN !! So i'll remain on Mountain and hopefully one day apple realises it's mistake and reinstates that beautiful gesture !! Happy new year to everyone and thanks again Paul !!

Same issue here. Swipe not working in finder (in my case with magic mouse). Apparently navigation with muti-touch gesture has disappeared since Lion 10.7, so unfortunately we might not see this feature "back" anytime soon... :-(

Although not ideal to have to install a third party application, downloading the (free) app BetterTouchTool (http://www.boastr.net/) and setting it up is quite simple and eases the pain. THANK YOU to the developer of the app. I hope this feedback helps some 🙂.

Once installed :

PREFERENCES >>> GLOBAL >>> Add new gesture >>> "Two (or 3) swipe left/right" >>> predefined action: 3F swipe left/right (page back/forward)

Attached is a screen clipping of the the setup I use as an example for the Mouse & another screen shot for the Trackpad.

Hope this helps...

thanks, worked for me (though I use 4 fingers rather than 3 for swipe between apps).
