Three finger swipe no longer works on Mavericks

I have just updated to Mavericks.

Prior to installing Mavericks, I was able to do a 3 finger swipe left or right to go back or forward in a Finder window.

After I have installed Mavericks, I can no longer do this. I have checked in System Preferences/Trackpad and the settings are exactly as they were before I updated to Mavericks.

I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue and if so have you found of solving it.

Tried every possible solution and (for me at least), nothing worked on finder. Finaly decided to try a finder alternative and came up with pathfinder where three fingers swipes works like a charm !!!

Also in pathfinder, pinch to zoom works too (both in folders and desktop thumbnails), another finder feature I was missing.

It's a shame for apple to ignore such a big flaw, but in the end I came up with a solution and this is all that matters.

Hopefully there's a bunch of people following this thread now. If you can spare 2 mins, could you all post constructive feedback to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html ?

Your time and efforts would be appreciated.

I titled mine 'Finder Gestures' in Efficiency/Workflow for Desktop/Finder/Filesystem and said:

Apple went to great efforts to introduce gestures in the UI and was proud to show them off. As users, we've got used to them in multiple apps and on different platforms.

Unfortunately with the move to Mavericks, you have removed them from Finder - despite gestures supposedly being system wide and documented in the Cocoa developer library. Finder is exactly where gestures were very useful - being able to back up through navigation and pinch to zoom make a real difference to its utility.

Please bring back gestures in Finder.

You have no idea how many threads like this one is out there..... and how many ppl have complaint to apple about this, my self too...apple STILL ignore us !!!! WHY??? I seriously just CAN'T understand....it's not like we are asking from them to invent something new.... i hate the mouse..i love my trackpad... and i had to format my retina macbook pro and go back to Lion because of the gesture removal... thats how important it is to me !!!

If that's the only reason why you went back I seriously don't understand why you just didn't install "Better Touch Tool" as recommended a hundred times in this thread. It works perfect with Finder and after realizing how good it is I began using it in tons of other situations.

Never the less, I don't see why this was removed as a native gesture... So unnessecary.

My dear friend, the reason i wont use the touch tool is just based on principal... WHY should any mac user have to download a secondary programme or tool to do get his job done? We are not talking about a cheap pc now, we are talking about a 2,500 euro computer with a BRILLIANT touch pad that has been disabled for no obvious reasons !!! I'm not making a big fuss out of this, it's just sad, for 2 reasons, 1st to see such a great gesture disappear, 2nd watching apple ignoring all it's customers !!

I just found out that that when the "Three Finger Drag" has been selected, the settings for "More Gestures" which includes swiping from left to right is automatically changed from 3 fingers to four fingers swipe.

This fixed my swipe issue on Maverick's

I just tried this and the swipe back and forward in Finder does not work.

Can you confirm that you can swipe back and forward in Finder Timajo?

Since starting this thread I use Better Touch Tool to give me back the three finger swipe functionality in Finder. I suggest that people who miss the 3 finger swipe in Finder, install BTT.

Whatever the reason for the removal of the 3 finger swipe feature in Finder, just install BTT and get the feature back if you miss it that much 🙂

I tried BTT. But there was repeatedly high processor load. Absurd, just because a function that still work native in Mountain Lion... 😕

So I looked for an Finder-alternative, where swipe still works. Now I'm working with Pathfinder. Exellent. Makes everything better than finder. Especially the Tab functions (where finder really fails in comparison).Swipe also works. Finder I use only as a Spotlight-search-window. Done.
