Installing Mavericks over Mountain Lion

I try to install Mavericks over Mountain Lion but keep getting this message: Unapproved caller, securityagent may only be invoked by Apple software.

Now I am stocked and cannot do anything :-(

Any suggestions?

Same s*** for me. it's a disgrace to release something that doesn't work correctly.

Apple has become less and less serious. I'm not as fan as before. They're are getting on my nerves.

Should I turn to Windows again...

A lotta people think the same around me...

I hope they're gonna fix that issue very soon !!!!!!

good luck everyone !

Nonsense. Windows may suite you better. It works fine. You have issues, and so does your computer.

No real "solution", but for those for whom the "boot into safe mode" and "boot from recovery partition" tricks also didn't work: I gave in and more or less did a fresh install

1) boot into recovery mode and start terminal

2) rename folders

/System -> /System.old

/Library -> /Library.old

/Users -> /Users.old

3) install mavericks and create the same user account you had before

4) copy back your original /Users/<accountname>

this brought back my system into almost exactly the original state

unfortunately didn't work for me - again. I'm working on this ******* for one week now, tried every solution mentioned here, no success. Even if I go the hard way now - wipe and clean install from scratch - I fear the error will show up again because it seems to be a bug in the mavericks copy itself, so if i download the complete dmg I probably have a buggy version again...

My solution to this problem was simply to reinstall Mavericks on top of itself, which preserved all my account settings and allowed me to continue as before. (Reboot and press the Option key, select the OS X 10.9 Recovery Partition and reinstall OS X 10.9 Mavericks.)

I should also point out that before I reinstalled Mavericks, I reenabled Gatekeeper from the command line in Single User Mode (Reboot and hold Command-S, then at the prompt type "spctl --master-enable" without the quotes). By itself this did not correct the "Unapproved caller/SecurityAgent may only be invoked by Apple software" behavior but I thought I'd include the step just in case.

Guys, i did not read through this entire thread, but i had same problem, i complety fomated my HDD and reinstalled everything from scratch. That did not help me, i thought it could be my HDD getting corrupted (reason why i thought that is becuase whenever "unapproved caller" showed up at same time everything on my HDD went read only mode). Hence i replaced HDD and put in new one, i dont get unapproved caller anymore.

But there is still a problem somewhere, becuase my MBP freezes and HDD goes to read only mode, the only solution is to restart my mac sometimes multiple times.

I think both these events are mutually exculsive.

I have been troubled with this for about week now and very much gave up all hopes on my MBP.
